Yes, Kassi, you should find the performances posted by Mr Duck Bear. He gives the intro to each performance and the judges' comments and doesn't cut off until they go to commercials. Sometimes there are brief backstage comments from PTX at the very end of the video.

Definitely include the pre-performance segment and the judges' comments. This one specifically gave a lot of information about how the group was put together from "the trio" of friends who grew up together and how they found Avi and Kevin to complete the mix.
Mitch was in his last year of high school. He was young. As to their polish, can you believe they just met Kevin and Avi days before that.

Well, they had met Avi a bit before that, but Kevin the day before they went in to audition for the show.

The crazy thing is that this was only their second performance as a group and they had only been a group for a few weeks. The "trio" were all 19 and Mitch had actually missed his HS graduation for the audition.
Mitch wasn't even 19 yet
Avi was 21 and Kevin was 22, I think
The 5 met for the first time a day before their audition for the show, and that same day Mitch missed his graduation for attending the audition.
I feel like a lot of people feel the same way about only wanting to see them when they’re “polished” but honestly I think some of their best stuff comes from The Sing Off. They had to be super creative with their arrangements during the competition so that they could outdo their previous performance each week! So some of them absolutely blew my mind when I saw them. I was literally on the floor when I saw them perform Love Lockdown. I knew they would win this thing from this very first song.
My husband and I were watching this when it aired originally. We looked at each other and said "There's your winner!" Now, the fact that they are from my home town didn't affect my opinion one iota. LOL. No, they were amazing, and there were some other great groups in the competition. Now, a little warning: this was a great performance, but they did have their less than polished performances during the Sing Off saga. But they did evolve and earned the win.
definitely watch with the judges commentary and watch in order! there are 12 that were part of the competition it's a great series.
Please wait the Sing-off in order, including the intros, the judge's comments and the exits. Plenty of emotional moments in those. Can't wait to watch your reactions. 🤙💕
It's so eye opening to re-watch them in the beginning, because they were so good then! They have come a long ways, but you KNOW all those other contestants were thinking "well crap....." LOL
And this is after they'd been singing together for just 2 weeks, bless them all
They were newbie babies here. They really hit their stride several weeks in. I hope you watch all their Sing Off performances, even their guest appearances. After you do you should definitely watch SuperFruit reacting to them on the Sing Off. It’s hilarious to see them react to themselves.
Watching this, you can totally tell how much they’ve improved immensely. They were still great then!

All of the Sing Off performances were amazing. I always watch Mitch. He is absolutely breath-taking. Fantastic. As I am transitioning, I try to make my voice sound like his when I sing. Love him so much. You must listen to him in their rendition of Problem. Just unbelievable.
When you see how good they were right from the very beginning, you can see why the judges were almost always blown away. I think you would enjoy the longer versions of their sing-off performances (by Mr Duck Bear) where you get the lead ins (in this first episode they tell their story - how they got Avi and Kevin in the group). And afterwards the judges assessments. I found those things very interesting when I was first discovering them many years ago (like 2014). I missed getting on the bandwagon right away, but I wasn't too far behind and quickly caught up.
I absolutely adore watching how excited you get watching Pentatonix. Keep up the good work.
When you watch more of the Sing Off, try to find the videos made by MrDuckbear11. He includes the intro each week from the show, and the judges comments after they sing, and sometimes little clips of their reaction to their performance, which are fun to see. Especially the intro for Alien, where they explain how Avi and Kevin joined the trio to be on the show. Alien is the first song that they EVER performed in public as a group of 5! Also, Avi does this thing called overtone singing, where he sings a low bass note and a higher tone or whistle tone at the same time. For Alien, he does it during both Mitch and Kirstie's solos. He also does it in a few other performances later on the show, and I don't think the judges ever knew what it was.
Mitch was just a few weeks out of high school. Scott and Kirstie just 19 at the time. Just babies! There is a video of the trio from their choir concert in high school, and a few home videos.
Watching the Sing-Off Performances in order is so worth it !! ♥️♥️
Boy, are you going to be in for a ride watching Pentatonix and their Sing Off performances! I am here and signed up for it❣️
It's so funny you say how polished they are. They had only all just met like 2 weeks before that and their first performance together was the audition for the show. This performance was their very FIRST time singing together in front of an audience. As the show progresses, you see their growth and how they finally completely click as a group. Wait until you get to some of the later ones, like I think it is # 11 or 12, when they do the Dog Days are Over. WOW! Can't wait to see you get to all of these. Incidentally, it was after this performance that the producers told the group they needed to put Mitch in the background more and not put the focus on him because it was clear he was gay. Mitch already had issues with self confidence because of being bullied because of his voice and this only made it worse and he started having anxiety attacks before each show. He was still in High School at this point. But by The Dog Days performance, the group said to hell with the producers. They were all always so supportive of Mitch and still are. He does still suffer from anxiety to this day, but he says the second he steps on stage it goes away and he feels free. For anything earlier, look for "The Trio", that is what they called themselves and there are some videos of Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie in High School.

If you want OG trio performances, they did a version of Telephone you would enjoy at a high school talent/variety show that's floating around.

I love your excitement!!! The whole Sing Off series shows how great they were from the get go.... they just keep polishing each and every performace.
👉👉THEY WERE ALL YOUNG!! The Trio was 19 yrs old... mitch being the youngest by several months therefore he was still in high school finishing his senior year. Avi was 21 Kevin was 22. The Trio are litterally childhood friends who grew up doing theater and choir in Texas.
Scott was introduced to Avi who is from California and Scott was told about Kevin who had a viral video on you tube cello-boxing! Kevin is from Kentucky!!

@@miriamschulz7316 Yes. Auditions and first few episodes were filmed in June 2011. Mitch turned 19 on July 24.
You should watch the performances in order they’re great! Also Scott and Mitch did a video reacting to the performances on their superfruit channel and it’s really funny - definitely worth reacting to 😄 love the videos keep them up!
There’s also a video on Superfruit where Mitch and Scott react to videos of their performances as kids so you can REALLY see the growth. They perform together in one of those as well. It’s called “reacting to old performances”.
There are two videos of the trio doing Telephone. The first was the one they recorded for a contest for Lady Gaga tickets. They didn’t win the contest, but that video went viral in their local group and school, so they were asked to perform it for their choir concert. A classmate’s brother posted his video of that performance, and that’s the one that went viral throughout the acapella community nationwide. Avi saw it and thought, “Hey, those kids are talented-I would love to sing with them someday!” Then a few months later, Ben Bram sent him the video out of the blue and asked if he’d be interested in meeting Scott for a group he was putting together for The Sing-Off. ruclips.net/video/t2XBMWRK4Mw/видео.html
That was also the song they used for their audition for the Sing-Off. They took a song that "the trio" already knew well and rearranged it to add a bass line and beatbox track (you might notice that Kirstie briefly does a little beatboxing in there... I'm sure she was happy to let Kevin take charge of that!)

Not only was this the first performance in front of the judges - it was only a few weeks (or less) since they'd come together as the full group iirc. They'd come together as a group and sang for the first time the day before the audition. This was PTX unpolished haha. You can see videos of the trio separately though :P

It's fun to watch these with the story bit before the song and the judges comments. They were so young Scott, & Kirsten had just finished their first year of college and just 19 (Scott had turned 20 by the end of the competition) and Mitch had just finished HS and tuned 19 over the course of the competition. Avi and Kevin weren't that much older at about 22, I think Kevin was 23 by then end of the competition.

Kasian, I'm going to blow your mind...you know that Scott, Mitch and Kirstie (all 19) were friends in High School. Scott went off to USC, but heard about a new TV show, Sing-off (a contest for Acapella groups), so he got Mitch to join him, then called Kirstie, who was at University in Tulsa, to join for the TV show. A close friend (Ben Braun) suggested that they get a Bass voice and a Beat Boxer to complete the affects of an Acapella group. He personally recommend Avi (21), who joined them a couple of days before the first show. Then Scott saw a viral RUclips of Kevin (22) playing cello and beat boxing, and called him up to join them...the three of them put together the cost of a plane ticket and he arrived the day before the 1st show...they rehearsed that day and night before the show...the rest is history. Think of the world of music without them...blows one's mind !!!
So excited to go on this journey with you! Please include judges commentary, it will really give you some foreshadowing to what Pentatonix sounds like in the future. So good.

Also... take a look at the opening performances for the shows. They're group performances and there are a lot if talented people on the show.
The fact there's only five of them against groups as large as 18 to 20 people is amazing.
Yes! Especially the "Rythm of Love" one! The show pegged Scott early as one of the soloists to use, but it kills me how long it took them to start featuring Kirstin, and how they almost hid Mitch behind other singers.
As a five person group, this was their second performance together. The first was to audition for the show. Scott, Mitch and Kirstie were friends, but they only met Avi and Kevin days before this. So to answer your question, no the group of five has never been bad, they need a little more polish than what they were here, but never bad.
Ok so now you're on the beginning of the PTX journey. You absolutely should watch all performances in order and include the intro and the judges comments. It will really give you a sense of how they began together.

Episode 10 is the absolute best one...Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye. Scott is on fire in that one!

It's funny you said you were nervous. Even though we all know how the show went and that PTX has gone on to have an amazing career I still get nervous watching their Sing Off performances as if it was the first time. LOL!

This first song is one they had time & space to prepare before the rigors & exhaustion of the show. I think the next couple of songs are a bit wobbly, but they really click starting with #4 (and they are fully-forged as of #10).
i remember watching these episodes every week when they came out lol. Knew this group was gonna do massive things.

If you decide to do the entire series (12 performances before the vote) and then 2 finale performances, you're are going to see some fantastic covers. You're also going to see some absolutely cringe-worthy choreography that they still laugh about today. It's good to watch all of the performances in order (some aren't perfect) so you can see how they progressed. The highlights are #5, #7, #10 (probably the one that cinched the title) and then #12 ... the icing on the PTX cake. Other than the trio's video of their high school performance of Telephone, the Sing Off is as early as you can get.
Yes you have to watch the origin story of the group! Sing off is when they grew up!

The trio: Kirstie, Mitch and Scott, uploaded a couple of videos just the three of them. I believe they did Telephone by Lady Gaga and Firework by Katy Perry. That, I think is the least "polished" you will ever see them. Even those videos are great. But you do miss Avi and Kevin in them. Fun fact: I just watched every single one of their Sing-Off performances yesterday. It is a journey well worth taking.
So true!!! I have to have some kind of background when I'm doing my end-of-term grading marathon, and this last semester I watched the full episodes of that season of The Sing Off. So many other good singers/groups, but you could tell from the start how good PTX was. There were other groups that had super performances, but these folks just had everything from the start and consistantly gave all they had. It drove home how much hard work it took/takes.

Before the Sing off, Scott/Mitch/Kirstin had a trio and they posted a couple covers. They were 17/18 at that time. Earlier than that, there are some duets between Scott/Mitch and Kirstin/Mitch, but not all 3.

Mitch and Avi won that show. The others were phenomenal but Mitchs solos and Avis overtones right out of the gate.
I live for Avi’s overtone singing. And not a lot of reactors that ive seen pick up on it. Maybe like 1 every like 20 reactor catches it and comments on it being cool
