I don't think vegans mind if others eat pork or other pig products like bacon. The World Health Organization classified processed meat like bacon and red meat as group 1A and group 2A carcinogens respectively. So if animal abusers want to give themselves cancer, that's their choice.
As a Swede, the American tipping culture seems really weird. It seems to be a way for restaurants to underpay their serving staff, and shove part of the responsibility of the wages directly onto the customer's. Basically shame the customers into paying part of the wages for the serving staff. Here we instead pay decent (although not great) wages, and it's reflected in the up front cost of the dish. There are times where a tip is added to that, but this is for when the service is particularly good, and it's nothing you're expected to always do.
I'm okay with tipping because it provides the server with an incentive to provide good service. in my experience, I have the service to be lacking in countries that do not have a tipping culture similar to the US
There are some additional ground rules as well. 1. Before sitting down in a group lunch/dinner, make sure everyone is seated before sitting down yourself or if you're not the host, wait for the host to invite you to sit down. 2. When eating with a group, pass the food around instead of just passing it across the table to someone who needs it. 3. When taking food from someone, make sure you're loading small amounts so as to ensure others also sample the food. If you want seconds, ask if everyone had and then take, but again, small amounts.
Hey Alpha - here's how I remember to set up the table when hosting a dinner date: For the left side of the plate: left=four letters, fork=four letters, bread plate goes on the left side-food=four letters For the right side: right=five letters, spoon & knife=five letters, glass/drink=five letters. Hope this helps gentlemen.
If i do all those things.. my friends starts teasing me, Who else face the same issue? (Just smile or laugh with them, that s the best response you can give)😃✌️
It's perfectly acceptable to put your knife down and then switch hands to hold the fork with your right hand. The way Alpha demonstrated it is very common in Europe.
Just yesterday my mom was shouting me because I don't know how to use fork and knife.... let's see how this 1 goes like... I'm also shy about eating infront of someone ...especially when they are looking at me
Haha same here. I can't use the knife properly as I'm really used to eating with my left hand and here in India we don't use knife that often so my right hand is always empty. It feels a bit awkward when you have to use it at a restaurant 😅
Dining etiquette is important and I'm glad that you made this video. But there are some points that I would address: 1) elbows are not allow on the table while you eat, but when you finish it is allowed (although not always appropriate) . Also resting hand could be on the table, not only on your laps 2) you didn't mentioned what to do with napkin when you finish eating 3) The utensils on the plate have also some meaning, you put them differently when you finish your meal and when you just resting and will continue. 4) tipping: as you aim to worldwide audience, you should point that tipping DEPENDS on the country. In US tipping it's usually 15-20%, In EU (as stuff salary mostly regulated) it's topically 10%. In GB (and other countries) the "service charge" it's already included in a bill so you don't need/shouldn't tip. In other countries (e.g. Japan) it could be even read as offence if you tip. 4b) "if the servant did terrible job leave 15%"... totally disagree. Of course you should tip and even if the service was "normal" you should leave standard tip, but if the service (not food) was terrible - I'm not leaving a tip.
Nice primer! From my knowledge, the way you used your fork and knife is a very European way. The "American" way is also polite and allows you to put your knife down when you eat. When I'm in England I often see people use their knife and fork together, but they hold their knife differently than you are.
I missed this vid when it was first posted, but it is much appreciated. Unexpected as a topic, but you deliver the perfect simple primer (or refresher) for any modern gentleman who needs to eat out socially. Bravo, sir.
Alpha, great vid with some useful info. A nice arrangement of flowers is also a good gift if you're going to someone's home. If you take wine, don't be offended if the host doesn't serve it with the meal, they may have already pared a special wine to compliment the meal. The gift bottle that you take is a gift for the host. A thank you card that you actually mail afterwards is a nice touch, and far more special than a text or email. Anyways wait for the host to start eating before you do so. They may be planning to say grace before the meal, or they may have a special toast planned. Alpha, you did it, but didn't say it; when you're finished with the meal the utensils go on the plate laying in a 4 to 10 or 5 to 11 o'clock position to signal that you're finished. Any other position just means that you have paused. Don't speack with food in your mouth. Hiding your mouth behind your hand while chewing and speaking is still gross. If you must get up during the meal, your napkin is folded and placed in your seat. Some restaurants will replace it with a fresh one while you're gone. If you're asked to help set a table, here's an easy way to remember where the bread plate and beverage glasses go. Make the OK sign with both hands. Note that the left hand also looks like you're making a small letter "b" and the right hand is making a "d". B for bread, D for drink! Bread goes on the bread plate, as does the butter knife if you have one, once you start using it. At the table, bread is torn, not cut. Use your butter knife to put a suitable amount of butter onto your butter plate. Then, tear a bite sized piece of bread off and butter that piece. Don't butter all of your bread at one time. A biscuit at breakfast can probably be an exception. Butter is transferred to a plate first, and then onto your bread, not directly from the butter dish onto your bread. Gentlemen don't sit before ladies do. Be prepared to help slide her chair in after she sits. Some outfits and heel combos may make it difficult for her to slide a heavy chair in. In a restaurant, it is polite to give the lady the seat with the best view, even if it's just of the room. She should be all the view that you need, and it helps guys avoid the impression that they're checking out each woman that walks by the table. IMO, the exception is if one has a concealed carry permit and is carrying at that time. The armed person always takes the seat with a view of the door and/or room. That's probably not a first date conversation though, just sayin'. It never hurts to have enough cash on hand to cover the meal in the event there's an issue with your credit card. Machines go down and cards get hacked and then frozen or closed by the provider. Don't dominate the table conversation. Two ears, one mouth, listen twice as much as you speak. Learn to ask open ended questions that allow the other person to give more than a Yes or No answer. Phones should put away and placed on vibrate. If you're on call, either with work or just for the sitter, explain that early on, and then be discrete when checking your phone. Ninety nine percent of your calls and texts can be addressed later. Routine calls should not be made or taken at the table. This shouldn't even need to be said, but unfortunately it must, whether the napkins are paper or cloth, one should never blow one's nose at the table.
I really like your videos and I’ve been following you for long time now. Lucky for me I speak a little English but a lot of my friends don’t. So, it will be amazing if you start adding Spanish subtitles to your videos. Thanks Alpha, and greetings from Nicaragua 🇳🇮
If you’re seated at a large round table (wedding reception or business dinner, perhaps), here’s a simple guideline for determining which water glass and which bread plate is yours. Make a circle (inconspicuously) with your thumb and forefinger on both hands. The remaining fingers stick up, creating a lowercase “d” on your right hand and a lowercase “b” on your left hand. D is for drink (water), and b is for bread. I learned this from an etiquette expert.
I'm actually a server and love people who thinks the same as you about the tip. From time to time there's a guy or couple (or even a group) that says "no" no the tip using the excuse of the place being "too expensive". That sucks man. Love you alfa.

Yes, I think he was joking here, but he failed to make it obvious in an otherwise very obvious instructional video that you *never* choose for the date unless that's what *she* says she wants.
It is controlling. I don't really see it as being "alpha" to decide what someone else will eat. But also pay attention to this. If your date orders the most expensive item on the menu, or close to the most expensive item, then you might not want to go on another date with them.
Great stuff. Absolutely right! Tipping is an excuse for employers to pay waiters and waitresses next to nothing, it’s really stupid, the ones losing are the customers and employees, in the rest of the world, employers are obligated to pay workers a decent salary, so tipping is not necessary...
I feel so high class for being left-handed - using the fork and knife as a true gentleman all the time! Also, I saw someone doesn't know that placing the utensils on the plate have meaning depending on how you place them, huh. Maybe a topic for another video?

20. December 2019... I'm searching "how to eat, dinning, like a gentleman" on alpha m. channel... 21. December 2019. upload this video.. Coincidence? :O
My questions would be 1. Why do you cut one piece at at time and what makes proper etiquette while eating? 2. How long do you wait for the food especially if your food is getting cold plus does it depend on how large your group is?
If you put your knife and fork straight up and down on your plate (i.e. 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock positions on clock face), the server will know you have finished and will take your plate away. If however you have not finished and mean just to take a break from eating or need to visit the rest room, put your knife and fork on the plate separately at other angles - say 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock - and a good server will know not to whisk your plate away before you're done.
Well... a better thing to do when someone invites you to dinner is not bringing anyhting, but the next day send a gift and a note saying that you had a good time and thanking that person... you can send flowers , that is more elengant than coming with a bottle of wine.. you are welcome..

@@friarpesel5646 here in portugal minimum wage is 640 euros per month
Absolutely right! Tipping is an excuse for employers to pay waiters and waitresses next to nothing, it’s really stupid, the ones losing are the customers and employees, in the rest of the world, employers are obligated to pay workers a decent salary, so tipping is not necessary...
I‘m german, and here it‘s quite normal to tip ~10%. If the service is good even more.
Rich people actually tend to tip less.
hey Alpha, I am visiting Atlanta from Italy, right now I am in Little 5 Points, I really appreciate your tips :)
Pork.. so sorry im a muslim ya
An Naz and use left hand to eat😅
Me2
Well, you are missing out on some juicy meat because of a religion.
@@keegantheplayer yeah everyone says that
I am vegetarian haha
I feel so high class for being left-handed - using the fork and knife as a true gentleman all the time! Also, I saw someone doesn't know that placing the utensils on the plate have meaning depending on how you place them, huh. Maybe a topic for another video?
"do you have reservations?"..."yes we do, but we decided to try it anyway."
:)))
Been looking forward to this one. Thanks Alpha!
2:10 i cant believe he just said "this is the way"
This is the way.
Here it is boys. The moment we've all been waiting for. Thanks Alpha 💪💪
I eat like tomorrow dosen't exist!
And I am proud of it!.
Flat Earther and I’m proud of you ✊
Absolutely Awesome Vid. Keep up the great work Alpha M
I met my younger brothers friends and after that, my brother told me that his gf and friends were so into me yet I’m way older than them so he kept on bugging me and wondering why I always get what I want so he asked me how do you do it; i was like I use tiege Hanley xoxo
People in 1950: In 2022 we are going to have flying cars!
2022: *Watches tutorial on how to eat*
“If you can’t afford to leave a tip, you probably shouldn’t go out to eat.” Spoken like a true gentleman!
Good video as always, Alpha.
The tipping tips are not really usable here in Europe but the rest was great!
Because, I'm Muslim. I never eat pork.
Sorry to hear that, you're missing out
Alpha always providing so much value in his videos!! ❤️
We in in india pay half a dollor for a tip and if its a big resturant then 1.5 dollor. Not more than that🤶
We north Indians don't even eat non-veg
@@dilwindersingh530 i am speaking about the tip not veg and non veg. I too am a vegetarian btw
This was a fantastic subject especially pre the holidays when we are all dining out. Great content Alpha
Thank god i don't live in America and have to pay 20% tip even when they waiter is an ass. That's just insane tbh
These tipping %s are too high. It is like this: Waiter average: 10% tip; waiter awesome: 15% tip; waiter is an ass: 5% tip. Anything more than this is sacrilege
If waiter argues/fights with you: no tip
This is the way.
Cristian Granados sup mando
Exactly!!! 20% tip is ridiculously high. I wonder if it's a first world thing or just an American thing
You got good timing Alpha. Just what I needed.
Alpha really got sponsored by big pork 😂😂😂😂😂🤪🤪🤪🤪😂😂😂😂
If you put your knife and fork straight up and down on your plate (i.e. 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock positions on clock face), the server will know you have finished and will take your plate away. If however you have not finished and mean just to take a break from eating or need to visit the rest room, put your knife and fork on the plate separately at other angles - say 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock - and a good server will know not to whisk your plate away before you're done.
I feel like I'm learning how to become human
your videos make my day,Aaron.
thanks
Filipinos watching this going, "He really used the fork to eat rice 🤦♂️"
Alpha thanks man 🔥
You’re videos are always edifying each time... keep up and I love the energy ✌🏾
Well... a better thing to do when someone invites you to dinner is not bringing anyhting, but the next day send a gift and a note saying that you had a good time and thanking that person... you can send flowers , that is more elengant than coming with a bottle of wine.. you are welcome..
This video is one of the most educational you did
Instead of bringing wine as a gift bring Teige Henley 😂😂
Alpha used the spell Ridiculous😂😂😂6:45
Don’t forget grace before any meal.
Haha yes lol🤣🤣
I'm proud I already knew some of these, but there's always something to learn from your videos!
Unfortunately, I am vegan, apart from pork ( missing it ), I like it.
I wish I could go vegan , but so far I am stuck to vegetarian because of my parents :/
Thanks Dad! I’m glad to learn something new everyday;)
Thing about pork is that pigs can also eat a lot of crap that isn't good for you, which gets in your body when you eat them. (Remember the food web?) Not saying people shouldn't eat pork, but it's got its negatives, too.
Most of the animals eat crap
Pork these days are grown in farms for consumption and they are fed what they should be under regulations. About eating their own shit in farms.. well which animal doesn't?
Yes I've been waiting for this vid man!
African children: awwwww man!
Thank you! It helped me A LOT!
Now this dude is learning us how to eat?
16 yrs old watching ya vids. Glad I've come up on this info sooner rather than later👏💯
Alpha: cut one bite at a time
Me: I bet I can eat the whole slice of pizza in one bite
Great video again man. Keep educating!. Btw, pork is super healthy and delicious for sure!
