In this video, i made a custom keyboard out of concrete. I have made custom cases out of wood before, but never have i used concrete as a material. I did use concrete in the Thockiest keyboard video but that was just as a mod, now the entire keyboard is made from concrete.

actually the mold didn’t break, silicone bends under pressure instead of cracking so it looks like his mold was perfectly fine!

I've thought about doing this but I would try and find the finest concrete mix and then do some polishing and sealing. It could turn out super nice and surprisingly this one for how rough that mix was turned out pretty nice. At least from what we could see
oh yea i bought the wrong mix, only found out there were different mixes when it was curing but i was super surprised when i saw the final result

Yo, honestly, this means you could get pretty damn creative with the shapes of your board Should we expect to see other pours in the future? Resin perhaps?
For next time, you might want to lube a bit the silicone so the concrete is easier to remove :) I love the result I actually might do it myself too lol

I think if you have a good mix ratio and a full mold that you can split into 2, you could get a cleaner-looking result. But the roughness and inconsistency look really good and homemade.
I wonder if u could mix some concrete and resin to make custom concrete keycaps... If I try it I'll edit in the results here!

@Squashy Boy if you redo this, you can put a bitta Vaseline in the mold to help release the concrete. You could also use plaster of Paris for the mold, it’s a little more fragile but rakes less time and is waaaay cheaper
if you take fiberglass or hemp or several other possible fibers and put them in your concrete mix, it acts like rebar

Squashy boy I have a video idea. What if you filled water and different types of liquids in a keyboard. Usually if you tap on a plastic bottle with water its pretty thocky so fill the keyboard with water.

I was thinking it would break in half, but it didn't.
If you plan on doing this again though a sheet of fine mesh chicken wire to reinforce the bottom would be a good addition I think, other than that do a better job of shaking it / vibrating it so you don't get the pock marks / air bubble marks on the edges.

You'll have to maintain the proper depth of the mesh inside the concrete for it to work. There's an easier way to reinforce it - the fiber additive, which you just mix in.

Squashy, if silicon was used for dampener, and felx = good. What if a keeb case made out of silicon? Would it be a "Dampener 60" the flexiest keyboard ever? And also try to put in the rubber keycaps too I guess.

You could reuse the mold and make a case out od ice. It probably won't hold long, but no one has done it and it will be easier to store.
