I gotta get one of these for my '94 Xtracab. Mine has an OEM Toyota trailer light unit that was ziptied forward of the license plate, and the wiring coming to/from it looks just awful. It shows signs of some real amateur-hour efforts, and when I connected my standup jetski trailer, the lights came on but one or more of the functions wasn't behaving right. Really baffling because, given it's an OEM unit, I figure it either came that way from the factory or perhaps it was a dealer add-on, so how it ever got wires snipped/twisted/frayed is beyond me. Think it'd be best to just remove it entirely, clean up any points of the harness where it's tapped in, then get a CURT 55379.
Yeah, when I bought my truck it had a similar deal. It was some awful spliced in mess. That was one of the first things to go when I bought the truck. This Curt setup seems a lot nicer. I need to test it using a volt meter to make 100% certain it's doing its thing, but so far it seems to be working correctly from what I can tell.
I just bought a bunch of LED bulbs off amazon and ebay and tried them until I found ones I liked for the brakes and turn signals, etc. I have a big bin of LED bulbs from over the years, so I just pulled different ones out until I found ones that worked well in the 1156 and 1157 bulb locations. The ones I used for the 1156 and 1157 locations I believe are the AUXLIGHT bulbs from amazon (search AUXLIGHT 1156 or 1157). I also used the AUXLIGHT amber bulbs under the clear front turn signal lenes in the front bumper. The AUXLIGHT brand is real good quality. The other stuff is just random LED bulbs from china that I bought over the years off ebay. Like I say, I just experimented around with different LED bulbs until I found some that worked.
I don't have the specific links, but most of them came from either amazon or ebay. I try to stick to this brand these days www.amazon.com/stores/AUXLIGHT/page/E9C0420C-C5D8-4D01-97CF-DE6C7FFA9BFE?ref_=ast_bln
@@jdoggins23 With regard to the LED lights or do you mean the trailer wiring stuff? The trailer wiring is pretty much plug and play when using that harness.

@@ray5961 Hmm maybe the low-quality install job somehow became protocol for the OEM trailer light controller. Ha
