Familiar faces become newfound foes while former enemies become the greatest of allies in Marvel Rivals!
Marvel Rivals is an upcoming hero shooter video game developed and published by NetEase Games in collaboration with Marvel Games. The game is set to release for Microsoft Windows and macOS. The game will be a free-to-play game with a current line up of eighteen characters from Marvel Comics.
Gameplay
Marvel Rivals will be a 6v6 player-versus-player, third-person hero shooter title.[1] With the right combination of characters, players can make use of "Dynamic Hero Synergy" which further maximize their playable character's combat efficiency. The game also features destructible environments, allowing players to alter the battlefield (overseen by Galacta) to their advantage.[2]
As of now, there have been nineteen playable characters that have been officially announced, those being Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Loki, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Mantis, Namor, Peni Parker, Magik, Luna Snow, Storm, Magneto, The Punisher, Scarlet Witch, and Hela.[3] Two locations have been confirmed for the game, those being Asgard and Tokyo of 2099.
The story follows a hostile meeting between Doctor Doom and his heroic 2099 counterpart. This causes multiple universes to merge in the 'Timestream Entanglement,' which causes new worlds to be created. This causes heroes and villains across the multiverse to fight one another with the main goal of defeating both Doctor Doom variants before one claims victory over the new worlds.[4][self-published source]
Development and release
NetEase Games has established a specialized team in Seattle, dedicated to game and level design, to collaborate with their team in Guangzhou, China on Marvel Rivals.[5] The game is currently being developed by NetEase Games, which had also developed two Marvel games prior to Marvel Rivals: Marvel Super War (2019) and Marvel Duel (2020).[6] Jay Ong from Marvel Games described Rivals as one of their "most ambitious game development projects".[7]
The game has not been given a release date, but is having a closed alpha test starting May 10, 2024.[7] The game will be free-to-play from release. Though the game is set to release for Windows and macOS via Steam and Epic Games, NetEase Games had stated that it is "actively exploring potential releases on other platforms
Loki Laufeyson,[1] is the Trickster God,[1] God of Mischief,[4] Evil,[5] and Lies,[7] a member of the monstrous Frost Giants of Jotunheim but was adopted and raised among the Asgardians a group of humanoid beings from the pocket dimension of Asgard, the Realm Eternal.[20] Born smaller than the rest of his race and rejected by his father Laufey, he was adopted by the All-Father; Odin following the war. He was taken back to Asgard to be raised alongside his adopted brother Thor.[21] He was worshiped by the humans known as Vikings and became part of Norse Mythology.[1] Loki grew jealous of his brother after learning his true origin and schemed against him and Asgard.[22] His later cosmic meddling led to the formation of the Avengers, "Earth's Mightiest Heroes"
Loki Laufeyson is the son of Queen Farbauti[citation needed] and King Laufey,[citation needed] leader of the Giants of Jotunheim. He was born small and was an embarrassment to his parents,[citation needed] and was segregated from other Giants.[citation needed]
Adopted
Using magics, the future Loki came to Jotunheim's past, tricked Bor, and turned him to snow. As Bor withered, he asked Odin to help him, but his son ignored him. Loki then haunted Odin in the guise of Bor's ghost.[21]
Years passed and eventually, he asked Odin to adopt the son of a fallen king he would have killed and that would pay his debt. Meanwhile, he went to the present Loki, explaining to him how to become a god by tricking Odin and Laufey.
Loki went to Laufey, giving him information on where Odin would be positioned in the following battle and taunting him to attack him. As he hinted Laufey was a coward, his father struck him but decided to slay the All-Father
