That’s my favorite CCR song. And that was the song where I discovered them. It was a huge AM radio hit and everyone I knew loved it and had it either on the album, COSMO’S FACTORY or the 45RPM single. I wore that album out.
I kinda have the feeling Tom would have made this song still a bit better... John's hard-rock inspired rhythm guitar just isn’t the same just on it's own
I was a hitchhiker!! Back when I was in college in 1971, we would line the main street with our thumbs out to get rides out of town to the local tavern. I also hitchhiked from college to my home town several times. Very safe back then.
With the depression, rationing during WWII and broke GI's running around right afterward, hitch hiking had become a pretty common mode of transportation and stayed that way into the early 70's.
I was in my late teens in 1970 and we would hitch hike everywhere. It was a mode of transportation, like taking a bus. I guess we were taking a chance getting into a strangers car, but nothing happened to any of us.
Stayed longer than that. We were hitching all the time in the late 70s and 80s. Wasn't until they started putting up the no hitch hiking signs everywhere that it mostly stopped.
Yep. Did it myself back in the day quite a bit. wouldn’t do it today. But in those days, while certainly not the safest way to travel, it still worked most of the time. Different times.
You are right about hitch-hiking in those times. Two other hitch-hiking songs you've already done J&A are Hitchin' A Ride (1970) by Vanity Fare and Chevy Van (1973) by Sammy Johns.
John is currently out on tour, but I checked and he doesn't have any dates scheduled close to you guys. If you ever get a chance, go see him. He can still jam.
After I dropped out of college in 1970, I hitched from San Antonio Tx. to 'Frisco! Ended up hitch hiking around for 2 1/2 years. Never had any major problems, just a lot of good times.😂 It was a different time and a diierent world. All you had to do was wait for a VW van to come along and you had a ride!💯🤗❤️✌️
What a flashback! We hitch hiked in the 70s through the mid 80s without a thought, really. Picked up hitchers, too. Hitched all through Alaska several times. Oh, and I had that exact motorcycle in high school in the 70s. What a great time to be alive!
One of my all-time favorite CCR songs! We would pick up hitchhikers back in the 60's and early 70's. I even hitched a time or two. By the mid-80's it was rare, and now just plain scary.
I remember seeing lots of hitch hikers in the 60s & 70s but not later. My dad would say "I ain't pickin' up no dang hippy." I gave a few people rides but today is a different time. Sad that it's risky to trust strangers now.
CCR's songs each had a story to tell and put you in a different space and place. The songs were unique unto their own, and yet had an atmospheric connection to each other.
I was a teen in the 70s. I hitchhiked with a friend from Maine to Florida to California when I was 17, then Greyhound back home to Maine. . A few months later, I left here and went to Florida again. I met a lot of cool people and met a few sketchy people. Someday, I'll tell you about my few seasons working with the carnival 😊 Much love from Maine and keep doin what ya do ❤
We used to hitch hike all over. I would sometimes pick up hitchhikers who would help with the driving. I met a sweet little thing and we hitchhiked to Atlanta Pop together and I never saw her again. Those days are long gone. I would never hitchhike or pick one up today. Sad.
Sweet Hitch-Hiker was CCR's last single to reach the top 10 of the Billboard charts, peaking at #6 in 1971. A little trivia - CCR holds the record for having the most #2 singles (5) without ever hitting #1 on Billboard: Proud Mary Bad Moon Rising Green River and the double-sided singles Travelin' Band/Who'll Stop The Rain Lookin Out My Back Door/Long As I Can See The Light
The trust level in the 70's was off the charts. My Dad would pick up a hictch hiker in a minute. My mom wasn't a fan. But it worked. We met many interesting people. Those were the days.
Just a quick story about hitchhiking. Around 1957 American cars were all big beasts. My parents had one of the first Volkswagen Beetles in our area. One day my father and I were going somewhere and far ahead was a young guy with his thumb out (if you are a youngster that was the sign of wanting a ride ). The cars ahead of us went past him without stopping. When he saw us approaching in the little VW he dropped to his knees with his thumb still out. We didn't stop because we were almost at our destination, but that gave us a big grin. 😊
Great song from CCR! The band's last big hit. I've liked it ever since I can remember. "Travelin' Band" is another song if you want to rock out to CCR.
yeah, hitch hiking could be a real thrill.... or you can be somewhere no one knows for hours waiting. Great song, I wore out tons of socks dancing to this one!
When I went to school the bus drivers played the radio on the bus...used to listen to this song most every morning on way to school when it first came out
Hitchhiking was a normal back in the day. My kids Dad was in the Navy during Vietnam & when he got leave he would hitchhike from California to Oklahoma.
You nailed it. How can anyone not like them? Time to dive into some of their deep cuts. Try "Walk on the Water", "Gloomy", "Porterville", "Ninety-Nine And a Half (Won't Do)", "Penthouse Pauper".
Great song! for more, from the great album Cosmos Factory, do their awesome jam, Ramble Tamble, rocking banger to the core. Enjoy some more classic CCR! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
The great John Fogerty,he was the last concert i attended in my life,it was in 2011 at the Luna Park Stadium,in Buenos Aires. At that time the married life forced me to leave the concerts(lack of time and lack of money, haha). Today i am no longer married but i still listen to Creedence Clearwater Revival and John Fogerty. Rock n' roll forever. I want to recommend a song by John Fogerty,Almost Saturday Night, from his first solo album. Greetings from Argentina.
CCR had some of the best music going for sure, I remember hearing a song on the radio the first time they broke into the “big time” I didn’t have to hear the whole song to know I was already a fan. 😎🍺☮️
Always one of my favorite CCR songs. It seems crazy now how many people hitchhiked to get around. Lots of ppl didn't have cars so it was pretty common when my parents were young. It seems so dangerous now
Great reaction. I hope one day you might consider checking out John Fogerty Live with the Five Blind Boys from Alabama doing a smoking version of "One Hundred and Ten in the Shade". It's a favorite Fogerty of mine.
In 1971 me and a mate hitchhiked from our home in N England down to Lands End and back to John ‘o Groats, from one end of the UK to the other, it only took 6 days and we met so many really interesting people along the way. So glad I grew up then and not now. ✌️
For those who don't know, John'o Groats is at the northern tip of Scotland and Land's End is at the extreme southwest of England, in Cornwall I believe, a long way up and down. Myself I enjoyed hitch- hiking in the 1970's doing four round trips across the USA and Canada with a side trip to Alaska. Best times of my life. Never a problem ( well maybe some minor inconveniences ).
I had 9 brothers & sisters. My twin and I listened to this song at a young age. Two of my older sister's taught us how to dance when this song came out. I remember having a blast & my twin hating it😂😂
Jay and Amber thank you for this i was one of the ones who requested it. Such a good song. Check out their song It Came Out Of The Sky and (I Wish I Could) Hideaway.
I live up in the mountains - in deep snow sometimes, I have accepted rides and given back when I got my car. It's still a little Hippie-ish up here thank God✌️Amber is definitely a throwback Hippie Chick 😍 and obviously she's got good taste.
I hitchhiked from about 8 or 9 yrs (1970 or '71) on, back and forth to Imperial Beach CA, and I picked up hitchhikers up until about the 90's; when I stopped doing so. My first concert was Cal Jam 2 in 1978. I was 15yrs9mos and I had to hitchhike from Ontario (Speedway) CA to San Berdoo at about 1am...whenever Aerosmith finished. I hitchhiked from the tunnel going underneath the track though...thumb out and asking "is anyone going to San Berdoo?" Said that twice and I heard a reply; "you can come with us." Turned out they lived just around the corner from our home. I told my mom, who dropped me off the night before the concert, that I had a ride home.🤥
I'm so excited. I'm going to see John Fogerty & George Thorogood in concert in June! Going to be a great show.
wow, will be great indeed. I've seen George(1982), but not John.
I'm jealous
I will also see them in June in NJ.
Saw him last year. He is super in concert!
Thorgood puts on great concert
Forget the "British invasion" of the Beatles and the Stones. John Fogerty is the voice of American home-grown R&R. Grand Funk is right alongside him.
Yes, and the Brits were originally inspired by American (African) blues!
I’m telling my age, but I bought the 45 when I was 15 in 1971. Love CCR!
Sping chicken😋
I too turned 15 in 71. Remember this being their last big single.
I was 19 in 71 and saw them in concert. They did a great live show. So many great tunes.
Me too! I turned 14 in 1971! My older brother introduced them to me when I was about 12! One of my FAVOURITES!
❤️ ... Similar.
When I was growing up we would hitch hike to wherever we were going. People were more trustworthy. Thank you 😊
John Fogerty....the pride of El Cerrito California. How they pulled off that vibe was amazing
"Up Around The Bend" has got to be the next CCR song. It's one you might recognize from commercials or movies etc...
Yes! My favorite! Jay & Amber will rock to it for sure!👍✌️
That opening riff! So good!
That’s my favorite CCR song. And that was the song where I discovered them. It was a huge AM radio hit and everyone I knew loved it and had it either on the album, COSMO’S FACTORY or the 45RPM single. I wore that album out.
Who'll Stop the Rain is awesome by CCR
Yes!!
CCR!!!
The best!!!
The first note and you know who it is!!!
Their sound stands out!!
Fogerty is often hard to understand. The line is 'we could make music at the Greasy King', which was restaurant in El Cerrito where the band would go.
This is from CCR's last album (Mardi Gras). Their only album as a trio, due to Tom Fogerty having already left the band.
I kinda have the feeling Tom would have made this song still a bit better...
John's hard-rock inspired rhythm guitar just isn’t the same just on it's own
It was released as a single in 1971, and John both wrote it and was the singer.
Back in the 70's I didn't think anything about hitch-hiking to my uncles house 50 miles away. Those were great days!
I was a hitchhiker!! Back when I was in college in 1971, we would line the main street with our thumbs out to get rides out of town to the local tavern. I also hitchhiked from college to my home town several times. Very safe back then.
Yep. I lived 40 miles from college. Put some books in your hand and someone was going to help you out.
Their songs, Who'll Stop The Rain, Mdnight Special, Cotton Fields, are all great songs that you haven't checked out yet.
I hitched all over the U.K. & Europe in the 60's & 70's, some great memories of people & lifts.
You need to check out Travelin Band by CCR for some great rock and roll!
One of my favorite Bass riffs ever.
In the PNW it was discouraged. Thanks to the likes of Ted Bundy and the like.
A way of living...see Jack Kerouac !!.
Yep. Did it myself back in the day quite a bit. wouldn’t do it today. But in those days, while certainly not the safest way to travel, it still worked most of the time. Different times.
Back in those days, Naval bases would have a bus stop -like shelter outside of the gates for sailors to get rides from people. "Share the ride" stops.
You are right about hitch-hiking in those times. Two other hitch-hiking songs you've already done J&A are Hitchin' A Ride (1970) by Vanity Fare and Chevy Van (1973) by Sammy Johns.
Love both of those songs!
John is currently out on tour, but I checked and he doesn't have any dates scheduled close to you guys. If you ever get a chance, go see him. He can still jam.
CCR has been my Jam since I was 10! Love the '74 Honda CB-550 Four She was riding!
It was a great time to be young. Great music, there isn't anything like it now.
What a flashback! We hitch hiked in the 70s through the mid 80s without a thought, really. Picked up hitchers, too. Hitched all through Alaska several times. Oh, and I had that exact motorcycle in high school in the 70s. What a great time to be alive!
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Travelin' Band" !!! Thanks for doing this one!!
I will second this emotion! Thanks for playing Sweet Hitchhiker.
I third this!!
We went out and didn't have to lock the doors when I was a kid.... A great time to be a child.....
One of my all-time favorite CCR songs! We would pick up hitchhikers back in the 60's and early 70's. I even hitched a time or two. By the mid-80's it was rare, and now just plain scary.
I used to hitch home from college every Friday in the 70s, about 40 miles....no problem.
You gotta do “Hey Tonight” by CCR, lots of energy!
Back in the 60's and 70's hitching was how you got around .
I got to see them twice in concert. In Hawaii of all places!
One of my favourite bands of my youth.
I was a teen in the 70s. I hitchhiked with a friend from Maine to Florida to California when I was 17, then Greyhound back home to Maine. . A few months later, I left here and went to Florida again. I met a lot of cool people and met a few sketchy people.
Someday, I'll tell you about my few seasons working with the carnival 😊
Much love from Maine and keep doin what ya do ❤
Wow , I forgot how cool this song is. I haven’t heard it in years. Thank you
“It Came Out of the Sky” is a great rocker by them as is “Fortunate Son” ( don’t know if you have reacted to either)!
Thanks so much guys for hittin' my favorite band again!! Next to check out, Travelin' Band, Ramble Tamble, Pagan Baby. ❤
I've been waiting for these for about two years.
Yes. Ramble Tamble please. It’s awesome.
Great band CCR !! You must try "Ramble Tamble" next. You will be pleasantly surprised !!
In 1973 I hitched home from college every weekend. It was only 40 miles and usually I got picked up by someone I knew.
You have to do "Hay tonight" it's a real banger.
"HEY TONIGHT"
Even as late as the mid 80s, hitchhiking was still a thing. I hitchhiked across Minnesota to see my girlfriend at college in 1983.
CCR.... Hey Tonight is a banger.
We used to hitch hike all over. I would sometimes pick up hitchhikers who would help with the driving. I met a sweet little thing and we hitchhiked to Atlanta Pop together and I never saw her again. Those days are long gone. I would never hitchhike or pick one up today. Sad.
This is one of my favorite songs of theirs, and it's so uptempo, just kicks butt all through the track.
Sweet Hitch-Hiker was CCR's last single to reach the top 10 of the Billboard charts, peaking at #6 in 1971.
A little trivia - CCR holds the record for having the most #2 singles (5) without ever hitting #1 on Billboard:
Proud Mary
Bad Moon Rising
Green River
and the double-sided singles
Travelin' Band/Who'll Stop The Rain
Lookin Out My Back Door/Long As I Can See The Light
The trust level in the 70's was off the charts. My Dad would pick up a hictch hiker in a minute. My mom wasn't a fan. But it worked. We met many interesting people. Those were the days.
Yup, I used to hitch hike in the 1970’s in Canada
Love you guys and may God bless you and your family!!
Just a quick story about hitchhiking. Around 1957 American cars were all big beasts. My parents had one of the first Volkswagen Beetles in our area. You need to give mention to Doug Clifford, great drummer for CCR.
Great song from CCR! The band's last big hit. I've liked it ever since I can remember. "Travelin' Band" is another song if you want to rock out to CCR.
With the start of baseball season, you should do "Centerfield" by John Fogerty
If you're into this one then you will definitely love Up around the bend!
I highly recommend CCR "Cotton Fields" !
People weren't lost back then, we just trusted others. And then thanked them. .. and still no #1s ???!!!!!
Not in the US maybe but in Europe they had a lot of no 1 ones.....
Thnxs for SHH from CCR! I love you !!! Any CCR-Song is an absolute TopofthePops!!! Choose any, always right!!!
Who’ll stop the rain is another great song you haven’t checked out yet
yeah, hitch hiking could be a real thrill.... or you can be somewhere no one knows for hours waiting. Great song, I wore out tons of socks dancing to this one!
When I went to school the bus drivers played the radio on the bus...used to listen to this song most every morning on way to school when it first came out
I grew up with CCR in my life; so when John went solo in the 80s, I was all over that
Hitchhiking was a normal back in the day. My kids Dad was in the Navy during Vietnam & when he got leave he would hitchhike from California to Oklahoma.
CCR- traveling band is a must. It is short but sweet
I second "Ramble Tamble" , one of my favorite CCR tracks.
You two have done a ton of CCR, the crazy thing is, you’ve still got more to go! “Traveling Band” would be high on the list.
I hitchhiked cross country from Boston to San Francisco and back with two friends in '71. Took the whole Summer. That was a gas. The adventures!
Whooo! I almost forgot how much I LOVE this song!!!! Thanks guys!
When my dad would be traveling alone sometimes he would pick up a hitchhiker and let them drive while he would get in the backseat and sleep 😂
The great John Fogerty,he was the last concert i attended in my life,it was in 2011 at the Luna Park Stadium,in Buenos Aires. CCR had 11 songs in the billboard top 10, all written by John Fogerty, in a 3-year period...
Always one of my favorite CCR songs. It seems crazy now how many people hitchhiked to get around. Lots of ppl didn't have cars so it was pretty common when my parents were young. It seems so dangerous now
This was my jam when I was 10 years old!! I enjoyed all the CÇR tunes!!
Man‼️ Been so many years since I've heard this song, I forgot how pumped up it is‼️
Hitched all over country in 70's nyc to la at 14yo It was a different world
you gonna rock to this one....
Such a good classic, it has the old school reminiscing sound.
Great reaction. I hope one day you might consider checking out John Fogerty Live with the Five Blind Boys from Alabama doing a smoking version of "One Hundred and Ten in the Shade". It's a favorite Fogerty of mine.
You can just FEEL the heat and humidity in that song. Never been to The South, but I imagine it being just like that in the summer.
@@ChrisW-17 Sweat drenched shirt, Cypress Trees, Magnolias. haze hanging in the late afternoon sun. Evocative lyrics.
My wife rides a badass Harley, and belongs to a few women's riders groups. It's a thing, and it's awesome! 😊
'How can you not love CCR?' - word! 🧑⚖
YES! I'm going to see John Fogherty this summer in concert, he'll be singing all the old CCR stuff! Can't wait!
In 1971 me and a mate hitchhiked from our home in N England down to Lands End and back to John ‘o Groats, from one end of the UK to the other, it only took 6 days and we met so many really interesting people along the way. So glad I grew up then and not now. ✌️

Back in the day my brother would hitch hike from Michigan to Tenn. once a year, what some great stories.
Such a great song from a great band. Thanks for this gem.
Jay and Amber thank you for this i was one of the ones who requested it. Such a good song. Check out their song It Came Out Of The Sky and (I Wish I Could) Hideaway.
One of my older Sister's Favorites, Thanx, made think of her.😍 Miss ya Jojo
We used to hitchhike to school in the 70s. IT was a lot safer. So many great songs by CCR. He is touring and I think his kids are also in his band.
I’ve been a fan of CCR since ‘69. Just finished reading John’s book Fortunate Son. Good read.
Really really like this song. CCR is one of my all-time favorite Rock bands. 🎉🎉🎉 Good Reaction.
They are from El Cerritio, California just a few miles north of Berkeley and Oakland, CA.
People used to trust each other, i hitched across the United States a few times in the 70's
Hell Yeah Y'all
Yes, CCR, ACDC And Nightwish, my favorites
I live up in the mountains - in deep snow sometimes, I have accepted rides and given back when I got my car. It's still a little Hippie-ish up here thank God✌️Amber is definitely a throwback Hippie Chick 😍 and obviously she's got good taste.
John Fogerty has such a cool unique voice! Always great!!! ❤😊
You should give Bachman Turner Overdrive’s ‘You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet’ a go, if you haven’t already.
I've loved them since I was a little kid..I'm 64 California kid 😂😊
There's that voice again.
I hitchhiked from about 8 or 9 yrs (1970 or '71) on, back and forth to Imperial Beach CA, and I picked up hitchhikers up until about the 90's; when I stopped doing so. One of my ccr favs, and I love all ccr! Also that's a fire bosworth shirt. He was a beast!
