I worked on one of his films - he was a very nice man - very much at ease and communicated well with the crew and the cast. He treated everyone respectfully. In regards to the molestation charges against him, he was never criminally charged and the Child Sexual Abuse Clinic at Yale-New Haven Hospital, found Allen innocent. Also, Allen was able to adopt two infants with Soon-Yi. Both girls. You have to go through rigorous evaluations and background checks to adopt children, especially infants. Allen and Soon-Yi now have two grown daughters who seem to be successful and well adjusted.
Not to mention that Mia Farrow has always been a player in Hollywood... go look up pics of HER son, "Ronan Farrow," then pics of Robert Redford and Frank Sinatra... one, or the other.
If I made Woody laugh like that, my work here would be done.
Me too!

Agreed. Fantastic questions and very quick.

@@jonescrusher1 Woody invented the type of humor that Curb does so well.
A great thinker, wonderful filmmaker, brilliant comedian and amazing writer. We are simply lucky to be able to experience his works and share his vision. At the end of his autobiography he says” Rather than live on in the hearts and mind of the public, I prefer to live on in my apartment”
He is the best!
Dylan farrow was so lucky for his experience 😢
for years you couldn't get a syllable out of Woody..it's so great to hear him talk!
I was born in 1954 and discovered Woody Allen about 10 years later. He was a major revelation then and remains an indelible part of my life!
You are wonderful!
“I’m not that dedicated.”
One of the greatest filmmakers of all time said this!
He’s hilarious!
The one talent that I admire most about Allen's writing is coincidentally the same as I admire in Neil Simon. That being their ability to write dialogue. Their dialogue is absolutely genius in that they are witty while being completely believable that someone would be saying it.
Well put. Woody and Simon were pretty darn good at plot too.
Rockfish: Indeed. Believable situations and people that somehow despite the ordinariness sucked you in for every uttered syllable. I write songs and music but I don't think I would ever have the ability or the patience to write dialogue or situations in real time.
An amazing man, and one of the world's all-time artistic greats. Any documentary about him is worth seeing, but this particular one by Robert Weide is especially good.
i dont use stuff if you mean drugs. I drink vodka + Schweppes now, its weekend in Russia, we have fun, and i wish youre okay too, bro. Good luck.
My hero! Happy 84th Birthday! 🎉❤️🎉
I hang on each and every word. So utterly, utterly fascinating, so brilliant. This is another level of genius and comedic genius. In the field of comedy, there are a few names that reside on another level - so that, it you don't "get it", you dismiss him as an oddball. If you "get it", you experience the ecstasy of experiencing brilliance at a breathtaking level.
And as an elder, his mind is as quick as a Ferrari - as it's always been. Just breathtaking. And Mr. interviewer: 4 stars for you.
78 years old and still sharp as a razor!
@talkisreallycheap You are a dickhead
Diana Stvarnik-- You obviously don't know what a pedophile is. Woody Allen is not one. Prove it.

I love woody Allen. I realized when I was younger, I didn't like him bc I didn't understand him and his movies. As i grow older, I start to watch his movies and interviews. The more I watch, the more I like this guy. I think he's a incredibly talented comedy genius. There's not one interview of him which I've watched I did not burst out laughing . His sense of humor is incredible. What a incredible man.
Sophia’s Vlogs Wake up! How can you love someone who rapes their own daughter??
I grew up in San Francisco. I saw Woody do stand up comedy at a club called 'The Purple Onion' in '65. His set was pretty short, like 25 minutes. He was great though. Lots of great comics like Lenny Bruce, The Smothers Brothers, and more performed at that club.

Those were interesting questions. The mere fact that they're different from the standard ones doesn't make them inferior. Celebrities get bored by being asked the same questions over and over again. I'm sure that was fun for him.
Woody Allen is such a legend. He's always said that he's wanted to make a great film, one that would be a masterpiece, when in reality he's done that several times.
"I would take the 2 years and forget the film" He's great!

One of the best Woody Allen interviews!! My favorite director. He's funny smart witty and made beautiful stories for cinema. The interviewer asked great questions especially the question about two scenarios of torture and whether he wants to give up sports or movies.

The most revealing answer is when he says he’d take the two years of life. He loves life, despite his belief in its utter meaningless and all of its difficulties. That’s what makes him who he is, that’s his heart.
However in his recently published book he wrote that when it comes to bringing children into the world, he shares Sophokles perspective. It's better to never have been born.
roseandlilac. maybe it's because he believes in its utter meaningless, not despite it.

Greatest filmmaker of all time!! Funny one minute tragic the next in his films. Great writer and he casts the best actors and actresses of our time.
Best interview with Woody I've ever seen! Thanks for the original interview.
Sorry but you can't say that
Look...I don't know what he did or he didn't do in regards to the child abuse allegations. All I do know is that he comes across as a likeable and down to Earth guy in all of the interviews that I've listened to.

great interview, btw.
The last genuinely true bonafide living genius! Human-plane will not be the same without him and his work! If it were upto me, I would have made him Sir Woody Allen! Haters hate him because they be losers who hath not maturity to appreciate quality!
Exactly! We should be kissing his ass, as he's a national treasure. Woody has made brilliant, classic films, that will live on. Conversely, these brain drained, gossip lapping, mouth breathers will not be missed! Good riddance to them!
Hopefully, Woody will continue to make films. If he doesn't, we have quite a great repertoire of his cinematic gems, to select from.
You are right but He wouldn’t have accepted becoming a knight. He really doesn’t care.

I adore Woody!!! He is so talented.
Woody Allen is a genius because his great ideas never end
Nobody under 40 knows him.
I always get the feeling Woody has someplace to be, someplace to go, and he needs to get away from people who would enjoy his company. He's a genius in the calibre of Ernie Kovacs, with an appreciation of all the ways life can twist out of control. His mind always needs to be fed.
“The truth is there is nobody I’d like to have dinner with” 👏 I love this guy ....
If you've never seen his first movies, such as "Bananas" (1971), I can only say that I can watch them over and over.
Me too. i especially love "Take the Money and Run" along with "Sleeper" its a great double feature.
this guy isn't who I thought he would be.
Fascinating man!
I agree with him about Casanova's Big Night -- love that movie! When I saw it first, I found myself thinking, "Man, Bob Hope is acting like Woody Allen; that's so weird" -- and then I found out Woody's "acting style" was (as he has put it) an imitation of Bob Hope, but that he does it so badly no one has noticed.
great interview! you can tell the interviewer knows and admires his allen's films...
Yes, he's a good friend who also made a documentary on him..
for the record she was not his adopted daughter, she was mia's. they adopted two children together then mia went ahead
and adopted another daughter alone. don't be embarrassed to find out the truth about subjects you feel strongly about.
The fact you somehow justify that is even more sick than the actual fact
Wow O.K lets see. First of all Soon-Yi Previn was 19 when their relationship started and she was 24 when they got married. So what we have here are 2 consenting adults (who are still together by the way after 20 years). Now I'm trying not to be hard on Mia Farrow (being a fan and all) but she lied about the biological son she had with Woody. It was not Woody's it was Frank Sinatra's boy, and she finally came clean that's why they split up I believe. I don't claim to have all the facts but I know the fall-out from media bullshit when I see it. Hope your not offended.
Neil Mcintosh woooow say no more. .....
Soon-Yi is the adopted daughter of Mia and her previous husband Andre Previn. Woody was never involved in her upbringing.
@Neil Mcintosh She is not his adopted daughter, she is the adopted daughter of Andre Previn.
We LOVE you, Woody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It seems the questions were intelligent enough for Mr. Allen. He smiled. ;-)
I have always admired his wit and his work.
There’s no chance Sidney Bechet would pick up the check.

What a superb interview
Woody Allen interview in the Guardian:
"Allen still holds, as he's often done, that he's never made a "great" film, though it no longer seems to trouble him. "I'm just trying to be objective and honest," he says. "If you were having a 10-film festival and showing Citizen Kane on Monday, Rashomon on Tuesday, The Bicycle Thief, The Seventh Seal … I don't think anything I've ever made could be placed in a festival with those films and hold its own.""

@@xmuta
Hi SL, I’m fully on board with the #metoo movement and DO NOT apologize for sexual predators. I think it’s easy to look at a weird guy like Woody Allen and assume the accounts of him being a pedophile are true but there’s are another side to the story and ultimately no way to know who’s telling the truth.
Moses Farrow is Mia Farrow’s son and Dylan Farrow’s older brother. Moses is now a family therapist and says that when they were children Mia Farrow physically and emotionally abused him and his siblings and that Mia Farrow concocted the story of Woody molesting young Dylan to get back at Woody because she had recently found out about his affair with Mia’s 21 year old adopted daughter (from her previous marriage) Soon Yi. Moses claims Mia Farrow repeated the story over and over until the kids believed it. He says the memory his sister Dylan has of being molested while playing with an electric train set in the attic is not possible.
Moses Farrow is quoted saying, "It’s a precise and compelling narrative but there’s a major problem: there was no electric train set in that attic and no way for us kids to play up there even if we wanted to. It was an unfinished crawl space, under a steep roof, with exposed nails, floorboards and fiberglass insulation. It was filled with mousetraps and droppings and stinking of mothballs, and crammed with trunks full of hand-me-down clothes and my mother’s old wardrobes. The idea that the space could possibly have accommodated a functioning electric train set, circling around the attic is ridiculous.”
In another interview Moses says, "Dylan looked forward to seeing Woody when he would visit. She never hid from him until our mother succeeded in creating an atmosphere of fear and hate towards him. The day in question, there were six or seven of us in the house. We were all in public rooms and no one, not my father or sister, was off in any private spaces.”
The Connecticut State Police investigated the allegations and referred the case to the Child Sexual Abuse Clinic of Yale-New Haven Hospital. The professionals at the Clinic met with the police and collected all the data that the police had. They conducted a total of nine separate interviews with Dylan and her mother, Mia Farrow. They interviewed Woody three times as well. Completed in March 1993, the report concluded: "It is our expert opinion that Dylan was not sexually abused by Mr. Allen."
The New York Department of Social Services closed its 14-month investigation in October 1993 stating, "No credible evidence was found that the child named in this report has been abused or maltreated. This report has, therefore, been considered unfounded.”
Later Monica Thompson, Dylan Farrow’s nanny since the age of two months testified in court that Mia Farrow pressured her to support the abuse allegations but that they were “not true.”
On the other side of all this is Dylan, her brother Ronan (and of course Mia) who are now fully grown adults and we’ve all heard their side of the story. I don’t know what the truth is but think it’s fair to point out both sides.
If your opinion is that he is a pedophile that's your right. Like I said, based on all accounts I just don't know what to believe.
Thanks.
javialacarga - well, he’s obviously a genius at being a pedophile as he got away with it for so long.

@@ghostofmisao. Go fuck yourself
@@ghostofmisao. Then point out all the victims who've come forward in the last three years to back up Dylan Farrow's claims. Explain why Dylan won't file a civil suit against him in Connecticut, which she's legally able to do until she's almost 50, if she's so certain of being fractured by him when all she does is use her celebrity to bully anyone who has even a small issue with a detail in her story or how Ronan is able to use his connections as a journalist to dumb down the interview with Soon-yi. Face it, you're an easily manipulated sap who's been used by opportunists to further a petty score.
He is an absolute Geniouss no doubt about that
good interview!
Wow, I'd like to know why he doesnt like "Some like it hot"...
greenrate We're not talking about "Porky's" here. "Some Like It Hot" is a bit more sophisticated than that. What sets the plot in motion is Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis witnessing the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, seriously depicted onscreen. That was a pretty bold move for a Hollywood comedy in 1959.
Bobbnoxious That movie took way too long to set up. It just dragged in the beginning. And, really, if it didn't have Monroe in it, no one would even remember it. It wouldn't have been successful, and would have been promptly forgotten.
Oh come on, when someone tells you a joke, no matter how long it takes, no matter how much he drags or struggles to get the elements of the joke right, if the punchline is funny and you laugh your ass off, it redeems the whole thing. Same goes with "Some Like it Hot", Marilyn Monroe isn't the only asset, it's all in this last minute, the whole build-up leading to the unforgettable "Well, nobody's perfect" is what turns a great movie into a masterpiece. If it wasn't for the last minute, "The Sixth Sense" wouldn't have been as impactful, well same goes with "Some Like it Hot". The ending is just as perfect as comedic ending can get.
Woody considers Bob Hope a great comic actor..Thinks Buster Keaton is a great filmmaker, but reckons Chaplin is funnier (I personally happen to agree). Doesn't rate Stan Laurel("scratching his head and crying, never made me smile.'').
Yeah, judging by Allen's films, I really wasn't expecting him to dislike such a heartfelt classic as Some Like It Hot. I certainly understand why he has to defend not liking it. I would give him a fight on that, I didn't know it was possible to dislike that movie.
