As Australian born, and having travelled overseas, I agree with all of your points. I’d add a couple of points: yes, it’s not perfect, nor are Australians. Australians like anyone anywhere complain about the quality of life, prices, housing, etc. But by world standards we are very fortunate here. Australia is very British in its traditions, but since the late 1940’s very multicultural, but there are some conservative elements who wish it otherwise - they are wrong. I am first generation here and both my parents emigrated from the UK and Europe so I can well believe that 25-30% of the population were born overseas. My mum, who came from the UK, has said that this country’s immigrants made this country what it now is. Thanks for a great video.
Unless you're Aboriginal then you are prity much an immigrant or from immigrant stock, so its more like 90% of this country is from all over the world and therefore yes, immigrants built the modern Australian lifestyle as we now know it. A rite mish mash of European influences.Thankfully a more diverse bundle in more recent 30-40 decades was made communities vibrant with different ethnic influences.

People often take this for granted, we really should take a look at how other countries have it.. We have the best healthcare system in the world, our government gives us welfare benefits, until we find a job. We have it soooo good here.. the only thing right now that's hurting is the cost of living is getting worse, and the rental crisis aswell.. people are struggling to find a place to live.. let's hope with our new government things will be better! 🙏💜
Hi Rosey, thanks for the comment. Yes, I've travelled quite a lot and lived in a developing country for 20 years, and the quality of life in Australia is very very high. I do see many of my Aussie friends taking it for granted (something most of us do with our place of birth in general) - it's only when they travel to other countries or less developed ones that they realise how lucky they are having been born here :)
Let’s not forget that many of the things that happen in Australian society are things that Australians have fought to achieve especially in the work sectors.

@@sportstv1217 it’s great actually. My dad had a heart attack recently. Unfortunately surgery was required (open heart surgery) the care was incredible, even for months after the rehab was second to none. His out of pocket expense was zero.
Left Aus for 14yrs to live/work overseas. Loved the experience but it gave me a huge amount of appreciation for this country when I moved back 2yrs ago. So many little things I now don’t take for granted. It’s not perfect, but I must say am very proud of this great southern land.

As an Aussie born and bred I know it’s hard not to be a bit biased but I have seen quite a bit of the world so do have something to compare Oz to. Yes, there are plenty of other places I’ve enjoyed visiting but every time I step off that plane in Sydney I’m grateful for all the things we have. And no, I don’t take them for granted. I’m glad you enjoy living here. There are plenty of far worse places to be and none that I can think of that are, overall, better. Enjoy and make the most of it.

I travelled the world and spent two years in American and three in Britain, I've been to Canada, New Zealand and western Europe. As an Aussie my opinion is biased but I personally think Australia is the best country in the world in terms of lifestyle, weather, healthcare, longevity, freedom and safety. All the first world democracies are very similar in lifestyle and the differences are tiny but to me Australia is number one. But there are things we need to fix so here's some things that Australia could fix or improve - Drug laws - Australia still hasn't legalised weed even though people want it, it's only a small fine if your caught with it but it still sucks! Its Gigantic - unless you live in a major city with urban transport systems your gonna need a car! It takes forever to get anywhere once you leave a city! The Dead Heart - Australia has the largest area of deserts in the whole world! The Dead Heart refers to the fact that from the centre of Australia moving outward to the coast there is nothing but baking hot dry deserts, sometimes it doesn't rain in years and daytime summer temps hit 52 degrees Celsius regularly! It's impossible to farm this land or build new cities due to the weather. The Wildlife - the top end of Australia is full of giant crocodiles but that's an area with extremely low human density so attacks are rare. We have some of the biggest most aggressive great white sharks swimming the coast but attacks are still rare. The biggest threat is snakes! Australia has so many deadly snakes it's insane! They are deadly but also everywhere! I've had two brown snakes in my yard before and its not a weird thing here? The spiders suck too! I've been bitten a few times myself. Then there's the deadly jellyfish, deadly tiny octopi and deadly shells all at the same beach! Tobacco and Alcohol Laws - Australia has the highest tax rate on cigarettes and alcohol in the world! Both major parties are fine with it too. They openly state the extra tax put on the items is purely designed to force people into quitting so they won't burden the free healthcare system. Isolation - Australia is basically the most remote major nation in the world, it takes forever to get to Australia from North America and Europe. It's very inconvenient for a regular traveller, it feels so remote and isolated that it's like another planet! Arrogance - much like America but to a lesser extent Australians can be overly patriotic and arrogant about how great the country is. As an Australian I'm proud of my country and support them whenever we play sport against other nations but anything beyond that is obnoxious and ignorant. Mans Best Friend - Australia has been involved in more wars and conflicts than any other western nation over the last 140 years! Australians make some of the best soldiers on earth and they have a surprisingly large and well equipped armed forces.. We have pacts with Britain and America which essentially states we need to follow them into any conflict they ask for help with. Since the Boer war in South Africa, Australia has been in every major conflict that Britain or America asked us to help with. We fought in the Boer war, WW1, WW2, Korean war, Vietnam war, both Iraq wars, Afghan war and East Timor. Australia is like Britain and America's little pit bull they unleash on nations! Our allies respect our history and our numerous victories on the battlefield and we always feel obliged to enter any war our allies ask us. Cost of Living - everything is slightly dearer in Australia due to its remote location but things like petrol and property are way too high! It's been a boom cycle for the Australian housing industry but it's been this way for over twenty years and now house prices and rental prices are outta control! For every one of these critiques I could name three good thing's about the country! For me it's the best country on earth but as I said I'm very biased! 🇦🇺 🦘 🕷 🦂 🐜 🐍 🦎 🦅 🐬 🦈 🐊

In regard to young people working in Australia, the majority of them are in secondary or tertiary education and do this as a part-time job to earn some money and gain some valuable and character-shaping experience in the business world and wider society.
As a sixth-generation Australian (1802) thank you for saying such nice things about the country my family spent over 100 years helping to build! You didn't mention our healthcare system, the envy of many nations (you watching U.S.A.??) or the fact that we can hold elections without having armed guards at polling stations!

I love Australia, sure it has its issues, but we are very lucky to live in such a great place. There is opportunity here, I think some people just don't want to reach out and take advantage of the opportunities presented to them. I'm guilty of it myself, I squandered my education when I was younger and have to pay for it now I'm getting older, but I still have a great life, was able to buy a home and raise a family, sure there was sacrifice, but I think a person in my situation couldn't expect such a good quality of life in many other countries.
Hello! I used to live in Melbourne CBD, so seeing some of those images made me smile. Have you had a chance to visit Healesville Sanctuary yet? I would also recommend The Tree Climbing Adventures just near Puffing Billy if you ever get the chance. The multicultural food is wonderful and soooooooooooooooo delicious! Trying real Chinese food (especially the chickens feet) was an adventure for me. I am currently partial to Japanese and Indian, REAL ethic food and spices, not the toned down Aussiefied mixes.

It is true that Australia is international but at the same time they've been very careful who enters the country. First I was against it but now that I lived in London and see how unsafe it can get because of some dangerous individuals, I appreciate Australia's policy.

One of coolest things about Australia is all of the major cities are auite unique and different. There really is something for everyone. I chose brisbane, but perth would be a close second.

Tourism Australia needs to employ you! 1 thing I don't recommend that don't do is leave your door unlocked at night especially if you are a woman and live alone particularly in a poorer suburb. Chances are you will be alright on most occasions but where there is opportunity, some will take it and for a woman that can be disastrous.

We don't have Thanksgiving here but if we did, I'd be thankful that when my ancestors decided to leave England in the 1820s, they boarded a ship bound for Botany Bay rather than New York which was less than half the distance. Had they taken the much easier option, I'd think I'm living in the best country in the world like they all do, but I wouldn't be as we all know.
In regard to no photos on job applications: one of my nieces is a civil engineer, who just put her name (Leigh+ surname) on job applications. One day she turned up for an interview and told the young woman at the desk that she was Leigh come for the interview. The young woman looked up and smiled and said this is going to be good fun. No more was said.
It is safe here, but please don't walk alone at night if you can avoid it, and always lock your doors when you go out. Also, in Queensland it it illegal to leave your car without locking it.

As an Aussie expat the past 15 years, I’m very happy to hear your positive views on the country that I love. My impression though when I return home from time to time is that Australia is becoming less tolerant and more segregated. Hopefully this is not the reality. The benefits of multiculturalism are also why I love Australian life. I hope this remains the case when I return permanently one day.
I hear you. It’s because some issues have become polarised. The us verses them. Then again this is a general thing, with uneducated and non factual discord with exploding internet and social media usage. Sadly the media to compete for advertising money has lowered itself to the same level causing people to really have no trusted source to keep people and government to account.
Internet wise probably, but day to day life I haven't really noticed much difference over the last decade, less tacklessness actually eg. I haven't heard the term "boat people" used unironically in quite a long time lol

Yes, I'm Australian, the no1 greatest thing about Australia is the amazing coastline. Yes, the people are laid back and the work-life balance is good. But it's not perfect, you didn't mention it's becoming overrun with bogans and yobbos. The best advice I can give? stick to the coast, they tend to migrate inland!

TOTALLY AGREE. The reason I am leaving the Philippines for AU for a skilled job. High poverty rate, high unemployment rate, highly corrupt government (and its politicians), very low minimum salary wage, inequality among almost all the citizens (except for the rich), police brutality (especially to the poor), rotten healthcare system both for the patients who do not afford hospitals and medicines and the healthcare workers earning very low amount of monies.

There are areas of Sydney and Melbourne , and some other cities , where it most definitely is NOT SAFE to walk at night , where violent assaults and shootings regularly occur !
I’m not sure about that honestly. I used to live near Redfern close to public housing and whilst there was some theft from deprived people I felt safe walking around mostly. And don’t remember ever hearing about a shooting. Shootings are pretty rare here but occasionally hear of something out west. Not many people have guns or can get hold of one. Looking it up the gun rate death in Australia in 2022 is 1.04 vs US 12.22 per 100,000. And 70% of those in Australia is Suicide rather than violence and most gun deaths outside cities. So based on our population maybe 10 people die from gun violence annually here.
Just a couple of points, the young are at work because they want or need the money. Companies like employing young people because they pay them low wages and most of these are casual employees. Casual employess do not get 5 weeks leave, they are not paid any leave in most cases. Casuals get no paid leave and most do not even get paid sick leave. Casuals are only paid for the time they are working. They do however get the government mandated superannuation guarantee payment from the employer (currently 9.5% but soon to increase a little).

As an Aussie born and bred I know it’s hard not to be a bit biased but I have seen quite a bit of the world so do have something to compare Oz to. Yes, there are plenty of other places I’ve enjoyed visiting but every time I step off that plane in Sydney I’m grateful for all the things we have. And no, I don’t take them for granted. I’m glad you enjoy living here. There are plenty of far worse places to be and none that I can think of that are, overall, better. Enjoy and make the most of it.

Um, Aussie here - I would NEVER leave my door unlocked at night. Please don't do that! But yes, Australia is a great place, not perfect, but pretty bloody good! Glad to have you with us.
I find this depends on where you live. Most places you could, it's just that we don't want to take the risk.

I travelled the world and spent two years in American and three in Britain, I've been to Canada, New Zealand and western Europe. As an Aussie my opinion is biased but I personally think Australia is the best country in the world in terms of lifestyle, weather, healthcare, longevity, freedom and safety. All the first world democracies are very similar in lifestyle and the differences are tiny but to me Australia is number one. But there are things we need to fix so here's some things that Australia could fix or improve -
Drug laws - Australia still hasn't legalised weed even though people want it, it's only a small fine if your caught with it but it still sucks!
Its Gigantic - unless you live in a major city with urban transport systems your gonna need a car! It takes forever to get anywhere once you leave a city!
The Dead Heart - Australia has the largest area of deserts in the whole world! The Dead Heart refers to the fact that from the centre of Australia moving outward to the coast there is nothing but baking hot dry deserts, sometimes it doesn't rain in years and daytime summer temps hit 52 degrees Celsius regularly! It's impossible to farm this land or build new cities due to the weather.
The Wildlife - the top end of Australia is full of giant crocodiles but that's an area with extremely low human density so attacks are rare. We have some of the biggest most aggressive great white sharks swimming the coast but attacks are still rare. The biggest threat is snakes! Australia has so many deadly snakes it's insane! They are deadly but also everywhere! I've had two brown snakes in my yard before and its not a weird thing here? The spiders suck too! I've been bitten a few times myself. Then there's the deadly jellyfish, deadly tiny octopi and deadly shells all at the same beach!
Tobacco and Alcohol Laws - Australia has the highest tax rate on cigarettes and alcohol in the world! Both major parties are fine with it too. They openly state the extra tax put on the items is purely designed to force people into quitting so they won't burden the free healthcare system.
Isolation - Australia is basically the most remote major nation in the world, it takes forever to get to Australia from North America and Europe. It's very inconvenient for a regular traveller, it feels so remote and isolated that it's like another planet!
Arrogance - much like America but to a lesser extent Australians can be overly patriotic and arrogant about how great the country is. As an Australian I'm proud of my country and support them whenever we play sport against other nations but anything beyond that is obnoxious and ignorant.
Mans Best Friend - Australia has been involved in more wars and conflicts than any other western nation over the last 140 years! Australians make some of the best soldiers on earth and they have a surprisingly large and well equipped armed forces.. We have pacts with Britain and America which essentially states we need to follow them into any conflict they ask for help with. Since the Boer war in South Africa, Australia has been in every major conflict that Britain or America asked us to help with. We fought in the Boer war, WW1, WW2, Korean war, Vietnam war, both Iraq wars, Afghan war and East Timor. Australia is like Britain and America's little pit bull they unleash on nations! Our allies respect our history and our numerous victories on the battlefield and we always feel obliged to enter any war our allies ask us.
Cost of Living - everything is slightly dearer in Australia due to its remote location but things like petrol and property are way too high! It's been a boom cycle for the Australian housing industry but it's been this way for over twenty years and now house prices and rental prices are outta control!
For every one of these critiques I could name three good thing's about the country! For me it's the best country on earth but as I said I'm very biased! 🇦🇺 🦘 🕷 🦂 🐜 🐍 🦎 🦅 🐬 🦈 🐊

You didn't mention our healthcare system, the envy of many nations (you watching U.S.A.??) or the fact that we can hold elections without having armed guards at polling stations!

I love Australia, sure it has its issues, but we are very lucky to live in such a great place. There is opportunity here, I think some people just don't want to reach out and take advantage of the opportunities presented to them. I'm guilty of it myself, I squandered my education when I was younger and have to pay for it now I'm getting older, but I still have a great life, was able to buy a home and raise a family, sure there was sacrifice, but I think a person in my situation couldn't expect such a good quality of life in many other countries.
If you haven't done WA you really need to start at the bottom and work your way up, it's probably the most diverse state environmentally

The multicultural food is wonderful and soooooooooooooooo delicious! Trying real Chinese food (especially the chickens feet) was an adventure for me. I am currently partial to Japanese and Indian, REAL ethic food and spices, not the toned down Aussiefied mixes.

It is true that Australia is international but at the same time they've been very careful who enters the country. One of coolest things about Australia is all of the major cities are auite unique and different. There really is something for everyone. I chose brisbane, but perth would be a close second.

Tourism Australia needs to employ you! 1 thing I don't recommend that don't do is leave your door unlocked at night especially if you are a woman and live alone particularly in a poorer suburb. Chances are you will be alright on most occasions but where there is opportunity, some will take it and for a woman that can be disastrous.

We don't have Thanksgiving here but if we did, I'd be thankful that when my ancestors decided to leave England in the 1820s, they boarded a ship bound for Botany Bay rather than New York which was less than half the distance. Had they taken the much easier option, I'd think I'm living in the best country in the world like they all do, but I wouldn't be as we all know.
In regard to no photos on job applications: one of my nieces is a civil engineer, who just put her name (Leigh+ surname) on job applications.
One day she turned up for an interview and told the young woman at the desk that she was Leigh come for the interview. The young woman looked up and smiled and said this is going to be good fun. No more was said.
It is safe here, but please don't walk alone at night if you can avoid it, and always lock your doors when you go out. Also, in Queensland it it illegal to leave your car without locking it.

As an Aussie expat the past 15 years, I’m very happy to hear your positive views on the country that I love. My impression though when I return home from time to time is that Australia is becoming less tolerant and more segregated. Hopefully this is not the reality. The benefits of multiculturalism are also why I love Australian life. I hope this remains the case when I return permanently one day.

I was born and live in Australia, but I haven't seen less tolerance and more segregation. My biggest fear is the cost of housing (either owning or renting) and how it will affect us in the next 10 or 20 years. Housing is a complicated problem to fix, maybe restrict negative gearing to commercial property or new unit builds only?

Yes, I'm Australian, the no1 greatest thing about Australia is the amazing coastline. Yes, the people are laid back and the work-life balance is good. But it's not perfect, you didn't mention it's becoming overrun with bogans and yobbos. The best advice I can give? stick to the coast, they tend to migrate inland!

TOTALLY AGREE. The reason I am leaving the Philippines for AU for a skilled job. High poverty rate, high unemployment rate, highly corrupt government (and its politicians), very low minimum salary wage, inequality among almost all the citizens (except for the rich), police brutality (especially to the poor), rotten healthcare system both for the patients who do not afford hospitals and medicines and the healthcare workers earning very low amount of monies.

There are areas of Sydney and Melbourne , and some other cities , where it most definitely is NOT SAFE to walk at night , where violent assaults and shootings regularly occur !
I’m not sure about that honestly. I used to live near Redfern close to public housing and whilst there was some theft from deprived people I felt safe walking around mostly. And don’t remember ever hearing about a shooting. Shootings are pretty rare here but occasionally hear of something out west. Not many people have guns or can get hold of one. Looking it up the gun rate death in Australia in 2022 is 1.04 vs US 12.22 per 100,000. And 70% of those in Australia is Suicide rather than violence and most gun deaths outside cities. So based on our population maybe 10 people die from gun violence annually here.

Just a couple of points, the young are at work because they want or need the money. Companies like employing young people because they pay them low wages and most of these are casual employees. Casual employess do not get 5 weeks leave, they are not paid any leave in most cases. Casuals get no paid leave and most do not even get paid sick leave. Casuals are only paid for the time they are working. They do however get the government mandated superannuation guarantee payment from the employer (currently 9.5% but soon to increase a little).

If you get a full scholarship, you usually don't pay for anything. And if you get a partial scholarship, they usually discount that % out of the total tuition fees. My experience is only with universities though. You should definitely contact your institution and ask them directly :)
There's no scholarships for high school. Only universities offer scholarships and each one has information about how to apply on their website
