Been digging with my pops since 70's. Sometimes strange and creepy things in those privs. Human skull, human mandible, hat with hole in the side, coffin flasks full of urine, human teeth, sand filled stocking blackjack, guns, knives. Once in awhile the bottles aren't the coolest find in the pits.
The main ingredient in those Shilohs consumption cure was Heroin so it makes sense they had a ton of them, since it's one of the most addictive drugs in the world.. its crazy what they used to sell over the counter!
Hi Ned 👋🏻! I agree, the human hair gave me the heebejeebes. Other peoples hair has alway grossed me out. This was an awesome dig and the hole kept giving! Loved every minute, hated seeing it end!
I think it could be a hair curler. Can you imagine hoping on a wood boat and sitting in the nightin the ocean. With no gps. Just hope and a compass. Or use stars moon etc. Thats Balls. We are a soft generation
Peop,e would ship dirty laundry to Hawaii for cleaning & pressing. There was a "Potato boom" on Maui. I've found Wakelees and the Japanese equivalent, ten sided ground top milkglass jars. 19th Century Chinese Tupperware. I've dug one pumpkinseed, an amber pint with the cork lined stopper, which disintegrated on air. Try reassemble that chamber pot.
Another great video Ned, some great bottles & really enjoy your commentary & information about some of the stuff you find. looking forward to your next video, take care.
That hair and those bakelite objects could be an old shaker duster made of wool. My second guess would be a Victorian tampon made with human hair but that would be a touch unsanitary so I'll stick with my first guess. 👍
That Owego NY bottle isn’t from the city, I dig in New York state and have never seen that one, but Owego is upstate near Binghamton! Neat finds! Loved the video, keep it up
All over the world, those with more pale skin were assumed to be more wealthy, because pale skin meant that person didn't have to toil under the sun. In some countries, skin bleaching is still popular for the same reason - not wanting to be seen as a poor laborer who has to toil under the sun.
That looked like an early parts of an embalming set that you were pulling out. I wonder if they had a mortuary on their barn or in the basement. Maybe the reason for the human hair?
Fantastic video and I absolutely love that it was long. The hair was gross, was it from the person taking all the meds. It is so cool the way a story comes out from the bottles you dig, amazing. My favorite was the pink vase. Did you ever find out what the bakelite pieces were used for? Also how can you tell if you've bought a reproduction piece since you said something about it when showing the Cutter Whiskey? If you can you should try to do a round up. I could have continued watching if it was longer it was that good. Ned may you have a blessed New Year.
The one thing with 2 tubes coming out of it almost looks like a turkey semen catcher. Like the ones used today. Farm grown turkeys were to big to make babies so farmers had to help out. It would have 2 hoses on the top and u would put one one the male turkeys fun stick and suck with the other hose and it would go into a jar 🫙 that's my guess anyways. U can google what it looks like today 😊
That was most definitely human hair. It was thin and had a shin to it. It kinda looked like the root was still attached to one of the hairs to. All the medicine bottles and chamber pots person probably couldn't walk and then they passed away and all of their belongings were thrown away at the same time. Creepy and sad. Love your videos tho keep em coming.
My somewhat tired but well trained eyes bugged out when you covered up what on first impression appeared to be cobalt blue Russian trade beads that came from fort ross the Russian outpost just to the west of your dig and ended up in the hole.
Ive actually turquoise native american necklace beads in a white person's privy in The Central Valley - you never know what ppl picked up and tossed into the trash ! Also a pre-columbian human figurine in another privy now that I'm remembering...from someone's travels no doubt
Yo Ned, I've been digging pontiled shards around an 1800's farm house near Folsom. I've found the foundation and the well but I can't find the mother f'n G dam privy🤬🤬🤬 Find the Sanborn or Almanac info I can not. How do I appease the bottle gods???
I've got to act fast the land is for sale and so the bulldozers are not far behind. Can't sleep Ned, I just keep thinking about all that history will soon be gone forever. DAMN YOU SOULLESS DEVELOPERS TO HELL !!!!
@@roccovolpendesta7032 ah know it! They already bulldozed the White Rock Springs hotel site near Folsom...super historic site and they destroyed it. No preservation at all :( I missed it by a couple months
Any botts I don't give to the property owner, donate to the local museum or collect, I'm always glad to sell to ppl. Just add me on instagram and DM me if you see anything you like: @bottlened

Finding a person's hair in a hole is no more gross or more weird than digging in their old body wastes. It's an interesting find.

Unknown object looks like an early enema probe. The ones in the 1950’s didn’t have such large openings on the sides.
Awesome video! Love the human hair, how creepy cool! I wouldn't take the non gmo heirloom seeds from the consumption hole.
Pretty cool I Iove history
I love watching your videos you tell the history about the stuff you find

Awesome video Ned. Could have kept watching. I was sad to see it wasn't over.👍🤘
Some nice finds coming out well done
Hey Ned you should make a video of your personal collection. Do you ever sell bots that you have found?
It's the hair of the dog that bit you! Ha!Ha!Ha!
i would use an old piece of screen to get buttons too

Oh CRAP ! Where were they ??
Yah seen those to around 8:46. You'll spot them

Cool video bud!
Hi, like your show. Quick question; do you ever find any metal containers, such as tin, steel, pewter, copper, stainless?
Thanks,
Ken
Yeah that’s creepy af 😅
The pieces might be chemist stuff for mixing apothecaries

Great videos but ned we know you already know all the bottles can you wipe all embossed bottles so we can see the beautiful bot !!
Yeah I’ll try n wipe em more
Why did you not pick those marbles up ??
Hey bud, I'm coming through California on my way back from Hawaii to Vermont. Can we go digging? I'm going to fart around the west coast for a bit.
From a malt shop?
What do you mean by whittled?
It kills me watching you digging for delicate glass things with a huge shovel ..get a hand held little spade
Overall like videos
The hair, it would be interested in the DNA of it ,& know if any anaesthesia are alive
It would have been nice if you could have found gold nuggets instead of nugget seeds

Farmhouses are tough man. I don’t find the pits a lot of the time either. Just probe your ass off everywhere and hope for the best

Should send the hair in for DNA and see if they have any surviving generations of family...
