This movie literally saved me from going to boarding school 😭🙏. I still remember I was in 2nd grade at that time when this was released. My pappa said he'll be sending me to military boarding school in 3rd grade so that I can be tough. But then this movie was released and he didn't sent me there🙏

I am from boarding school brother, people have a misconception that boarding schools are bad, its just they have some strict rules and regulations, you have to maintain much more discipline and even after my job i am a disciplined person now and i thank my school for that, from the movie point of view ishan faced a lot of difficulty because of his condition, darsheel played an amazing role at the age of 10, it was an oscar level performance and i am so proud of him what he did in that movie
Being a teacher, I can relate to the difficulty a teacher face to encounter and discover a childs problem and delivering the same information to the Parent. It is never easy and some parents are very keen to prove that they are best parents and there is nothing wrong with their child

I am student to i am 16 when i was 9 i didn't know what to do in school it was all very hard for me i didn't know what was happening there and teachers didn't know what to do with me i studied in cbse school in india and yet i learned tamil hindi English from whatching cartoons

@Tom Ss Then how do you explain the fact that so many Indians who saw this movie related to it because they have parents like this? This movie is so popular simply because of the fact that not many people are aware of these things which this movie highlighted. Ignorance isn't the problem, it's the father's attitude. Besides, multiple times in the video this couple mentioned that it's like this in many parts of the world even if things are changing now. They have also liked so many comments where people talked about the Indian scenario and their experiences. This couple wasn't ignorant and they aren't wrong in blaming the father character.
@Tom Ss I already mentioned that in my reply. Of course not everyone is aware of many things. But the father in this movie simply dismisses everything instead of trying to understand. So the reason for his behavior is lack of acceptance, not that he is ignorant.

That reaction at the pond was of someone desperate for that kind of attention, but so used to the opposite that it's frightening to finally get it. Now there's an expectation. Can he live up to it? Will all those people who are now accepting him, turn and reject him again if fails? But, also, it could even just be a reflex emotional reaction inside, from having all the attention turn toward him, and him being used to it being a negative experience. I kind of think it's a subconscious fear, though, of an unfamiliar, but desirable, state of relations with others, that he doesn't quite trust will last. He's so used to failing, and this is too good to be true. It doesn't match his conditioned expectations, and so he's not about to just open up after being hurt so much. Takes time to heal and change the programed beliefs, but that's what patient love has the potential to do.

People are saying that you are being harsh on the dad because . Most of Indians even Asians have parents like these.
But that doesn't change the fact that the dad's attitude wasn't proper
To be fair guys, you have to see the father from a cultural standpoint. Standard of living is low and competition for even the basic amenities is high in India, so every father kind of does practice tough love, as in moms are more concerned for their emotional well being and dads more concerned about their financial well being. The reason why many Indians might have told you to go easy on the father is because believe it or not, he was on the gentler side compared to most Indian dads , if you have heard brown dad jokes.

We are 2nd highest population in our country, limited resources, limited money, less employments mode, in order to able to just survive only we have to be competative otherwise we have no options. I am one of those unlucky child who went to boarding school bt didn't meet any teacher who could understand me.... I was scolded by everyone, was bullied by seniors, classmates n juniors in school.... After a lot of struggling i passed out school but stuck in college...i am 25 but still didn't clear my college.....my dad said he is ashamed of me thats y he bought an apartment for me live alone staying out from everyone

The father needs to be set free just as much as, if not more, than Ishan. He's a character that is meant to typify an adult with symptoms of an ailing society, with infected leadership. He also, like Ishan, has symptoms that have a cause. This movie does a good job of really grating on our nerves with the fearful, hardheadedness of the adults, but gives hope even for people with their condition(-ing).
