    Another interviewer that is more interested in hearing themselves talk than in hearing from the person they’re interviewing

      They should look at the legendary Dick Cavett and how he conducted his interviews; the general rule is: gather some good questions, ask them and just let the actors speak.
      The more you give them time to talk about themselves (their characters), the more willing they will be to give you bonus info.
      Absolutely disgraceful when interviewers can't keep their mouth shut..

    I always got the impression that Brent Spiner played Data as an android who is trying to act as human as their programming will allow. Which is why he doesn't act like a spazzy droid like C-3PO with quick mechanical movements. He walked like a human (but not quite) he talked like a human (but not quite) and he had humanish body language. However as data was not 100% pure human, he still had to have android qualities, such as his inability to use a contraction while speaking or his very meticulously detailed description of the odds (much like C-3PO only calmer and quieter.)

    He did such a great job with that role, he made his animations look like he could have been programmed to make expressions but the writing always made it seem like there were emotions underneath. Also I never noticed how delicate of build Brent Spiner was at the time but there is a scene where Worf is carrying him effortlessly on one shoulder and that really drove it home.

      Worf is so big in comparison to data, and despite his strength and speed, there would be a hell of a fight between those two,

    I was a fan of Next Generation growing up but not what anyone should consider a Trekie or Trekker whatever the difference is. My only question for Brent would be, was it a breath of fresh air playing Lore, Dr. Soone, Data with the emotion chip, the numerous roles in the episode from the old west, and Dr. Oakum(however that's spelled) from the Independence Day franchise over the continued role of Data?

      You forgot Robin “Puck” Goodfellow from Disney’s “Gargoyles.” Many of the TNG cast voiced characters on that show, including major recurring villains of the series (Frakes as David Xanatos [such a brilliant villain that TV Tropes named the trope “Xanatos Gambit” after him in which the villain’s scheme is intricately planned out so that he always gains no matter what the outcome, no matter what the heroes do], and Sirtis as the female Gargoyle “Demona”).

      I heard him say multiple times that he begged the writers from the start to let him have some human acting which is why he got so many alternate roles. I'm sure they really were a breath of fresh air.

    DATA was well-loved. almost from the beginning. Or even, nearly from the beginning. Mr. Spock was loved so much. There’s a very good chance this love is why DATA was on the show. Even in the first or second episode, when the (very old) Leonard MCoy! Compares him to a Vulcan.

    I wish someone would quiz him over the controversial _The Most Toys (1990)_ episode, where Data tries to murder his captor in cold blood, then lies to his friends and superiors about it without the slightest compunction.

      Cold blood? I'm proud of Data that he got that shot off, even though it didn't actually hit him so there's 0 real consequences. Adds a lot of his character. That "captor" was a real asshole, and Data didn't do anything wrong in my opinion. He didn't "lie", because-- what was it Riker that he was talking to at the end? He knew Data WAS lying but understood that if Data took the shot, there must have been a reason. And we as the viewer saw that he had killed that woman in truly cold blood-- with a particularly CRUEL phaser, I might add (that sort of takes it time to burn you from the inside out), and I believe Data-- at that point, was pretty much justified to stop him by any means possible. That captor did not seem redeemable in any way whatsoever-- he enjoyed the killing, the torturing of his prisoners. I'm not sure why Data stopping this asshole would've been controversial in the slightest

    • @beingsshepherd

      @@Atari-Dude We're talking about a supposedly emotionless android, incapable of vengeful feelings, hardwired with a fundamental respect for *all* life.
      _Attempted murder_ is obviously a moral crime; he had no authority to mete out death sentences.

    • @Atari-Dude
      @Atari-Dude 3 года назад +2

      @@beingsshepherdAnd that man DID? I don't believe it's a matter of vengeance on Data's part. Looking at it purely factually, that man had imprisoned, and savagely murdered them with an illegal weapon. Any sentient being, even one without "emotion", could see that whomever or whatever was causing that level of unlawful activities, needed to be stopped. Data did everything within his power to justify NOT killing him first to prevent his continuing harm, but by the end-- even taking away any emotional element or motive (which I don't think he had anyway)-- as soon as the man took captives as slaves, risked that woman's life THEN did go through using that ruthless phaser on her... He gave up his right to a lawful end. Data saw what he'd done, and analyzed his options, and came up with a conclusion.

    • @beingsshepherd
      @beingsshepherd 3 года назад

      @@Atari-Dude So you accept that the attempted killing was not lawful.
      Two wrongs don't make a right nor do the ends always justify the means. By the final stage there was no imminent threat to life and Mr Data was even given an ultimatum.
      A later humane opportunity for escape might conceivably have emerged had he (an intellect of infinite patience) obeyed in returning to his station.
      If the decision to use lethal force was morally justifiable, then the need to deceive one's enlightened superiors doesn't follow.
