    I've had to cross scales with my empty flatbed many times. When they let the dry van trailer go by.

    Sometimes safety enforcement hides inside, sometimes they check your fuel permit, sometimes they are just lonely.

    its not about weighing you. it's about keeping records of when and where you crossed a scale.

    I believe the prepass is designed to pull every 10th truck in no matter if its heavy or not just so the dot officers can check out the truck and see if they should pull you out back for an inspection. The prepass will also pull you in once every certain number of times you get bypassed and that number is decided by the percentage of bad inspections your company has.

    With pre pass you have to go through a weigh station every 10 times it's automatically done I drove for a long time

    Very obvious the person filming the video doesn't understand how PrePass works or how DOT scales work. The scale can pull every truck on or random trucks in. Just because you are empty doesn't guarantee anything. Also, those scale in motion measures ground pressure AS WELL AS AXLE SPREAD for bridge law in many states. Nailing the posted speed (mosy accurate way is GPS speed reading) across those sensor plates lowers the chance of triggering a possible bridge law inspection. It's all about time and distance traveled. I will also state having a sticker on the windshield does not exempt you from another inspection either. DOT officers do have quotas for doing inspections, NOT writing violations. A good way to do quick inspections is pick trucks that have previously passed inspections. Also, a carrier's CSA score will dictate how any inspections you get. The higher the CSA score, the more likely you'll get pulled in randomly.
    I currently have a PrePass ilunit in my truck, have a 0 score for my PSP (safety rating - no accidents, no write up), yet I approach every scale as if it is open and I'll get pulled in. I cross the weight in motion plates at exactly the posted speed when I can and don't tailgate the truck in front of my. I do my job and every DOT scale has video cameras that shows the officer your approach and they can tell if you are diligent or driving aggressive or if you have a lot of junk in your dash (dead give away that you aren't organized.

    Last summer I was working on i-65 in Indiana by the weigh station the dot will open the scale the first 10 trucks will get pulled in they will close the scales until they got rid of the trucks a decent looking empty like yours when you get to the platform they would look out the window see the truck is decent give it the green to go

    You can save any video from RUclips by going to it's link in the browser bar and put ss before the "youtube". It will direct you to a free and safe site called "save.net" and allows you to save your video or someone else's to your computer. Look it up on a tutorial. It would be a good idea in case RUclips ever decides to close your channel for whatever reason.

    looks like you're at the North Platt scale.. The North Platt
    scale is another training scale and the scale master runs
    it anyway he wants..
    Sometimes he has a few trainees who are learning how
    to spot violations on a passing truck loaded or empty..
    That's why they will sometimes pull everybody in whether
    they're loaded or not..
    It's your job to keep that rig up to DOT standards 24/7 with
    no exceptions..

    • @MrNotorius5500
      @MrNotorius5500 6 лет назад +1

      I've been inspected at the North Platte scale before. What I experienced was the particular shift of officers running the scale house that night were pretty laid back. Maybe they were tired and just wanted to finish off their shift and go home I'm guessing and just wanted to get one more in before clocking out, but they didn't really inspect me at least not thoroughly. All they really did was a quick visual of my truck and flip through my log book real quick and said have a good evening. Took them less than 3 minutes. Hell they let me put the CVSA sticker on my truck myself. I wish I would have caught it on camera because I know it's kind of hard to believe.

    well 1st thing is first. that is east bound north platt ne!!!!!!!! that is one of the most unpredictable scales on I 80. the other thing was you hit the static scale to fast 90 % of the time you hit the sensors at 64 mph loaded or empty you get green light on prepass

    • @scottied67
      @scottied67  7 лет назад +2

      I have heard that theory too, slow down for the in-road weight pads.

    • @furdfelmer4359
      @furdfelmer4359 7 лет назад +1

      I think you are right, I tried to test the theory once I heard about it, back in my driving days. Sure enough, if I hit the sensors at just the right speed, a majority of the time, I'd get green.
      Seemed to be to too consistent, to be a coincidence.

      scottied67 as you mentioned this years 3 day CVSA blitz is June 6th through the 8th. This years focus is load securement, so although they inspected you before you likely have a different load on. And even if you still had your CVSA decal on the windshield, it is no guarantee you can't or won't be inspected again. Depending of which corners of the decal are removed, that reflects which quarter of the year the level one inspection was performed and usually you will get a pass during that quarter. Great videos, keep up the good work!

    • @scottied67
      @scottied67  7 лет назад +1

      I just thought it was odd they would red light an empty truck into the weigh station, I mean their primary purpose of being is to check truck weights. Their sensors should have noticed my truck was empty. Same thing happened in another video I did up in Idaho, empty and redlighted into the station.

    • @michaelwenmanK7USN
      @michaelwenmanK7USN 7 лет назад +1

      very strange to pull an empty in and if their focus is on load securement, again strange to pull in an empty dry van or reefer of corse they truly never make sense.

    • @scottied67
      @scottied67  7 лет назад +1

      There are several kinds, I first used a snapcam and now using a Cobra. Both are basic bodycameras that instead of putting them on my shirt, I put them on my hat. In the last 2.5 years of using them I have had an overwhelming amount of haters and trolls coming on to the commentary to tell my how illegal I am and if I recorded them, they would kick my butt or hoped that I would meet my untimely demise from someone else. So be careful using one, tons of people are scared of the new way.

      Saddle Sore, I thought you were a sub already. Yes the cams have battery. The first one I have goes about 2 hours on a charge. The one I use now has a one hour battery but honestly it starts fading after 20 minutes on high resolution. The good news is I can plug it into a 6 foot micro usb cord and charge while recording while driving. I will still make a video about it, it is very cool. Most drivers I have seen driving with head cam use gopro session though. It will be my next camera.
