Once upon a time, maybe even during your lifetime... that "flailing around" was known as catching the spirit (quickening, holy ghost, cutting a step, getting happy, feeling it). It was the truest expression of music. She pulled the audience in and they were right there with her which is why they jumped to their feet as soon as Patti started moving. I wish more new artists would bring that feeling back. Music is so stagnant nowadays.
There will never be another Patti! Check out her performance of “Forever Young” from 95, where she literally backs away from the mic and you can still hear her clear as day!!
Patti will make you laugh, cry, and praise all at the same doggone time. No artist can do that one. Not Whitney! Not Aretha! Not Beyoncé! Not Mariah! None of them! She is the only singer that can take you to 3rd Sunday 3:00 service at an old southern Baptist church in the deep woods without the central air and nothing but funeral home fans to cool down the spirit from that voice! And piggy backing to those other singers I mentioned, they are all rehearsed unlike Patti who is innate and instinctive with how to take a roller coaster ride with those notes and belting!
You said it's not even a church song but the spirit was in it and she took us to church wow flying high glory to God thank you for "Queen Patti LaBelle"❤🎉😢😊 you know what you can tell about this younger generation a lot of them wasn't raised up in the church for him to say dancing and prancing that told me all I needed to know..🤔🤣🤣 help the youth Lord
LIVING LEGEND, Ms. Patti 'BADASS' Labelle, in her prime (which in my opinion included her mid 60's) was an untouchable VOCAL BEAST. Not many singers had her range. She and her musical director, the late/great James 'Bud' Ellison were the original DYNAMIC DUO!!.
Putri arian and dwiki darmawan from indonesia cover somewhere over the rainbow.putri is ablind pianist. She perform in agt 2023.got golden buzzer from simom cowell on audition
It's not the people's fault, Patti vocals are ridicules. Her range and power sometime seam limitless, here's and example of her literally giving up on the mic. Patti Labelle - Look to the Rainbow Tour - Wind Beneath my Wings ruclips.net/video/v7Ocd3aPh8g/видео.html

Patti is a dramatic soprano, that's one reason she always sings like that. She always had a great stage presence.
