I have an ‘07 LC and an ‘07 LX, and the LX feels and sounds like a completely different vehicle on the highway (whisper quiet and smooth); lots of sound dampening material, thicker glass, thicker/better rubber moldings around the doors and tailgates, transmission seems slicker/smoother, etc, etc.. The doors close like vaults. Fit and finish on everything is better, it’s a true luxury vehicle. I LOVE my LC, but the LX blows it away. I paid $5k less for the LX with the same mileage too.

I have a ‘01 Land Cruiser that’s shy of 400k miles. Besides normal wear and tear (spark plugs, timing belt, etc.) the only major thing that I had to replace was the right front axle, alternator, and valve cover replacement. It cost a little over $900.00. All those parts that I had replaced were all original from the factory. As long as you stay on top on of the maintenance, these trucks will last you a very long time.

@@daniyar_ala I’ve owned 1st and 2nd gen Sequoia. 1st gen is reliable but the interior and body is cheap and stuff breaks. 2nd gen is much more refined. Neither are on par with the LC/LX but they are a bargain, bigger, and will get the job done.
I love the LX/ Toyota 2006 and 2007, but I live in Africa and at this point you can't find any of thoses in good shape, and you won't find any with all the maintenance records; unfortunately. Our Government doesn't allows us import cars older than 5 years from the current year, so RUclips and your channel are the only ways I can really appreciate how beautiful these machines are. An used Toyota Land cruiser from 2008 (200 series) with + 80 000 miles have the average cost of "equivalent" in usd of 36-40K, and the cares sometimes are very bad, so You're a lucky guy Hahahaha. Very good cars, keep the vids coming and many thanks, your reviews and comparisions are on point.
@@CruisingTheLand He´s very lucky. At this point "2021", in my country we are only allowed to import cars from 2016, but the average salary is 100-150 usd, and for example a new Hyundai i10 costs 15K usd. Import oldest used cars, from 2000 and above would really help us, but... I hope your channel keep growing and really fast, the content is awesome and the black Lexus is fire hahaha.
Awesome collection of Land Cruisers there. FZJ62 FZJ80 UZJ100s I have a few Land Cruisers myself. Yes, thank you. The FJ62 has the 3FE engine, the 155ho ome notnthe 212hp that cimes in the FZJ80... Also have a 200, LX570 and FJ40 V8 5.7 vortec and. HZJ73 with the 6cyl 4.2 diesel (great engine).
@@CruisingTheLand Nice, that's a full collection of cruisers right there. I got rid of a few cruisers. I had a VDJ79, an LJ78 that was swapped with a 3.4 litre 5VZ V6, KDJ91, GRJ120 and the VDJ200. The FJ40 is my most modified vehicle. Its a hard top on 35 MTs with an 8 inch lift kit, extended shackles, a bullet supercharger with 2JZ injectors, GReddy ECU, 6 speed Tiptronic gearbox, ustom gauges and its quad straight piped pushing 377whp.
Transfer case on the 40 for Low gears? My 40 is about 350hp, but offroad tuned, 4 speed SM420 and Orion transfer case with 4:1 ratio. Crawler... can go down a steep hill in 1st Low, and you can get out and walk around it as it slowly crawls.

It's got the front and rear arb air lockers.
Prior to Covid, had.the 80 (moonglow pearl) and a 570. And then I got a 100, and another and got it back to almost showroom condition. Then sold one, bought another etc. Repeat, while driving them and enjoying. Typically 06s and a few 07s (275hp VVTI ), Grey, Black Garnet, Silver, white, crystal.white, black etc... a couple 01s and a 02... Favorites which I wish I kept one was Grey 06 LX, a 07 white LC and 07 Crystal white LX. Probably had about 20 of them. Now.I have no 100s! Then covid hit and prices rocketed up. So now I am down to the 40, 73, 80, 80, 200, 570. Another beaut I let go was a 89 FJ62 (in my videos). Currently trying to convince the owner of a 87 FJ60 with a 12HT 5 speed manual with all the fixins to sell. In the desert tan, ARB and Slee bumpers. A beautiful rig.
Hello Cruising The Land, thank you for posting such an informative video. You must have quite a lot of knowledge on these trucks. I hope you can answer some of my questions. I picked up an 06 lx a couple of months ago. It has 203k miles. So far, I've changed wheel bearing and serviced all diffs. Not sure when was the timing had a timing belt been changed last time. I'm thinking about changing the automatic transmission fluid soon, is this a good idea? What other services do you recommend me to perform on my truck? I'm planning to keep it long. Thank you.
Hi Adew, Yes TB and WP are the big service items to be done every 90k miles (150k kms) a good shop can do this for $400 labor and you can buy the Aisin Belt and Waterpump kit. As for the Transmission fluid. This is an enclosed system and although it is not a recommended item, I have know some people to change it. The Trans in these trucks is robust.
Outside of the US the 100-series LC can be had since 1998 with the AHC suspension and optitron instrument panel. Not to mention dual fuel tank and turbo diesel option.
Yes, when that system goes, it really goes! Dealer will want bug bucks to repair. Like 5k. Find a used ABS system and save... rare that they go out, and definitely scary that you lose ability to brake.
Hey, I have been considering these two models for a month, but this is the first time I hear about this issue. How common is it? Any way to prevent it? Thanks !
There is info out there in forums about the possibility of repairing the electric motor within these units, if you can find an electric motor specialist that will do it. That brings the cost down to hundreds instead of thousands. Going the used route is rolling the dice with such a critical part that may be on the verge of the having the same issues.
There were only two color options for both the Land Cruiser and the LX 470: Grey or Ivory (creme). The white trucks with grey interior were pretty rare.
Debating on picking up a lx 470 also. Any thoughts about the 4 speed autos and the 5 speed autos? Does one shift smoother than the other? Is one more reliable and tends to outlast the other? Just curious.
@@Hknows so it has been in the rust belt. Definitely get underneath. It is a good price for miles. See if dealer services regularly. You can also put down the tailgate and see down in the corner where you can see thru. Thats a main area it can rust from salt being kicked up by the rear tires. Also lift up the plastic threshold piece in the back and take a look. For a rust free model its a great price... depends if the rust is liveable and if you live in the rust belt and will drive in the winter months. If you are in an area with no salt, then maybe search a rust free model. Otherwise, if you are and will be driving in winter, I guess kinda unavoidable.
@Cruising The Land Thank you very much Sir! I will be taking a look at it this week sometime and I will definitely check those areas you mentioned. I do plan on driving in the winter out here and hopefully it's not too bad rust as I do live in N.Y.( was told about the minor rust over the phone) and I will let you know what I find and if it'll be a go. Thanks again very much!
Love the videos. In the 2002 LC100's they got the 5 speed auto instead if the 4, do you know if they received any other upgrades similar to the 2003's?
2003 was the 5hp bump with the V8 engine (230 to 235hp) and the 5 speed came that year too., 1999-2002 was the 4 speed with Overdrive for both LX470 and Landcruiser
The 06 and 07 are the more desirable ones. Because they have the VVti 275hp engine (vs 235hp) and the led lights and some have the AHC suspension system which was only in the LX470 up until 2005.
No, this would be too expensive. Bumpers are interchangeable, but hood would have to include lights and grill, would just get too pricey. Best just to sell the one you have and buy the other!
So fresh out of factory, the LX is quieter. However, when the windshield is replaced, it can get slightly louder. So oem windshield LC is quieter than LX with aftermarket. You can hear the motor more on the LC, but i do like that. LX has more insulating for noise..
Why do some say they have air suspension, and others say hydraulic? I’ve also heard they have traits of air suspension but aren’t entirely “air suspensions,” at least not in the traditional sense with air springs mounted over shock absorbers.
Typically how long does the Hydraulic suspension lasts and how expensive is it to repair? Is it Hydraulic on both vehicles or does Lexus has an Air suspension?
It is hydraulic and on LX 98-07 and only an option for 06-07 LC. I have never seen one go out. The globes or accumulators could require replacement at some point, but as long as vehicle isn't in the rust belt, system should last for 500k
You would want to buy used globes from a southern state junkyard. Otherwise they are $1000 each from dealer. Since everything is exposed under the car, its the rust that can eat through the pipes.
Haha! Best advice I am going to give you guys wanting to own a Hundy, or Lux. If you want to own a Land Cruiser, then invest another $1,000 and buy some tools and learn how to work on them yourself! Lexus and Toyota will smile, lick their lips and rub their hands together when they see you pulling into the stealership! Maintenance costs instantly increase when you bring that bad boy in to be serviced. I know all about the AHC going kaput! I have a 96 FZJ80 & a 2004 LX470 and I love them! The LX470 was a 1 person owner and was well taken care of. The old lady who owned it, worked for Lexus and had it meticulously serviced at the same dealership, so I have all the service records. This past January out of nowhere, the front non rusted passenger hydraulic line & shock broke open where the line connects to the top of the shock. Hydraulic fluid sprayed all over the engine bay, which ruined a pulley, and shorted the alternator and caused me to have the timing replaced at the same time. $1,800 later, Lexus wanted $1,100 to install a $250 shock, or $3,000 to remove all of the AHC and install the Old Man Emu suspension kit I bought. I ended up watching a couple video on here and removed the original shocks, springs & T-bars and installed the kit myself and saved $3K. It rides great and I now do all of the work on my Cruisers and keep it recorded in a log book with the receipts.
You could wrap it. I have polished thr e metal accent strip, with a credit card a d Micro fiber. The the plastic is cracked o paint cracked, not much you can do.. except repair or wrap with Vinyl.
My brother but 2000 year 100 series land cruiser same color as yours where cheap he get lucky with 150000 miles less then $10,000 . Can you super charge the engine ?
Great video! Thanks for posting. I am just getting into Overlanding and looking for something that can be a daily driver but also take out to the trail. Been between a 2000 100 series Landcuirer for 20k or potentially looking at an lX now. Any advice?
The 80k less is worth 7000, and 275hp VVti engine worth 3k, and Landcruiser badge 3k... and 5 years newer 5k. The 2001 is priced way high (covid prices) but the 120k LC is priced close to pre covid with the low miles. As long as there is no rust...
I'm looking at importing a Land Cruiser 100 with the 4.2L I6 Diesel, but man are they expensive.... may just have to settle for the 3.0 turbo diesel hilux surf instead
The 1HD FTE engine will keep increasing in value in the future while the 1KZ/1KD would not. They are expensive to start with but the 4.2L will be the last legendary diesel from Toyota.
Hi Chris, The 100 series are built for world wide distribution and most countries will have lower grade fuel, or stations in the middle of nowhere for these adventure rigs. Think UN preferred choice! So you can put 89 octane and perhaps 91 octane (premium) every 4th fill up.
87 octane is preferred. 4.7L 2UZFE very uncommon engine outside of N. America. 2UZFE uses very simplistic ignition system & common grade spark plugs. Copper base spark plugs last 30k Platinum, 60k Iridium, 100k. For better mpgs & power use heat range 1 step colder. Spark plugs heat range higher number = colder lower number = hotter. Use NGK or Nippon Denso spark plugs. Any octane above 87 is a waste, no added performance, no added power, no added mpgs only added expense. Change your oil / filter & air filter frequently for better mpgs & smooth engine performance.
I would put 91 octane every 4th fill up. Actually only Chevron with Techron or Shell with V power as there are cleaners in the fuel. That helps keep things clean.
Lol, have you driven with the AHC system and in firm Sport mode? The hydraulic system is pretty incredible and lets you take winding roads with ease I do have a 911TT and of course its faster and handles incredibly, but its mostly a metaphor.
Yes got it and I was calculating imperial gallon. That is pretty decent right now but still expensive! As these get 14-16 mpg. 14% more with your British gallon.
Cruising The Land ah but we have the straight six 4.2td in 100 series and the 4.5 litre v8 diesel in our 200 series. You don’t see very many 200 series on the road. As a used car they’re about two to three times the price of a diesel Range Rover. Have a look on UK autotrader.
Do you think 280k for a 2006 land cruiser is too much. If so would 14k be reasonable. I found a 1 owner mint condition by me. These vehicles are getting hard to come by. It's identical to your with height control and dvd player.
Thinking of buying a 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser with about 209k miles on it. It seems to be in really good shape. They're asking 20k for it. I'm playing on using it as my DD and trail vehicle. Good or idea? Thoughts please.
I have a question maybe someone could help me...I heard the Lx and 100-series, (any of these trucks past the 80-series) all have Fulletime 4wd...Does that mean it's basically AWD BUT you can put it into a low gear? I see the level next to the gear shifter, Is that to put it into lower gear? Or are these 2wd and you can put them into 4H or 4L?...Thanks in advanced! Just curious! The Fulltime 4wd kind gets me, bc It makes me think AWD but AWD usually doesn't have the option for a lower gear...
Does anyone still talk about the 04’s for being the last year built at the Araco plant. Basically the last year of master craftsmen hand building these trucks.

I have 3 LC a 94, 96, 06 I enjoy the 96 the most
but love all of them equally.
looking to get a new one next year.

Does the lexus have less noise... Firmer sounding door closes, less rattles, less road noise?
Yes, Lexusnhas more sound deadening.
Thank you.
Hi Adew,
Yes TB and WP are the big service items to be done every 90k miles (150k kms) a good shop can do this for $400 labor and you can buy the Aisin Belt and Waterpump kit.
As for the Transmission fluid. This is an enclosed system and although it is not a recommended item, I have know some people to change it. The Trans in these trucks is robust.
Cruising The Land Thank you very much for the advice.

Outside of the US the 100-series LC can be had since 1998 with the AHC suspension and optitron instrument panel. Not to mention dual fuel tank and turbo diesel option.
I just bought my 100 series Landcruiser. Got the manual diesel - so not the 2UZ engine, but the 1HZ. Loving it - a lot cheaper to drive.
Thinking of getting a 2UZ-FE like this, but then to do an LPG conversion. Any issues with that?
That is a sweet engine. We don't get then here..saw a FJ60 with a turbo diesel conversion here in California. It sounded amazing and so smooth.
Can you comment on the ABS brake failure on the 100 Series. Total loss of braking - which is quiet scary.
Thanks !
@@Ulghart very rare.
There is info out there in forums about the possibility of repairing the electric motor within these units, if you can find an electric motor specialist that will do it. That brings the cost down to hundreds instead of thousands. Going the used route is rolling the dice with such a critical part that may be on the verge of the having the same issues.
Great video gorgeous trucks!!
Forgot pic of back end open, too cool :)
Very nice job presenting the trucks. Do you know if they made a black interior on this series Lexus ?
There were only two color options for both the Land Cruiser and the LX 470: Grey or Ivory (creme). The white trucks with grey interior were pretty rare.

Debating on picking up a lx 470 also. Any thoughts about the 4 speed autos and the 5 speed autos? Does one shift smoother than the other? Is one more reliable and tends to outlast the other? Just curious.
the 5 speed is superior.. so 2003 and up
Do you think a 2007 with new W.P. and T.B. very little rust with 197,000 for 13,995 is a good deal or no?
Did you pull a carfax?
What state did it spend its years?
Yes I have and I do know it's been in N.Y. and N.J. it's whole life. In the Bronx now. One owner and no accidents.
The downside of ‘03 and later is the touchscreen. Converting to manual controls and an aftermarket stereo is a major undertaking.
Great channel!! Looking at getting a 100 series and was wondering if the '07 is far superior to the '05 or '06 models?
The 06 and 07 are the more desirable ones. Because they have the VVti 275hp engine (vs 235hp) and the led lights and some have the AHC suspension system which was only in the LX470 up until 2005.

Is it possible to replace the Land Cruiser bumper, hood and headlight the Lexus counterparts to make the landcruiser look like a lexus?
No, this would be too expensive. Bumpers are interchangeable, but hood would have to include lights and grill, would just get too pricey. Best just to sell the one you have and buy the other!
Which of the two has a quieter cabin while driving on the highway? Great videos by the way.
So fresh out of factory, the LX is quieter. However, when the windshield is replaced, it can get slightly louder. So oem windshield LC is quieter than LX with aftermarket.
You can hear the motor more on the LC, but i do like that.
LX has more insulating for noise..
Awesome review. How lucky of you to own both
Why do some say they have air suspension, and others say hydraulic? I’ve also heard they have traits of air suspension but aren’t entirely “air suspensions,” at least not in the traditional sense with air springs mounted over shock absorbers.
The LX470 has Hydraulic suspension. AHC.
There is no Air either the LX470 or LX570. It's all hydraulic. Also some 2007 Land Cruisers had that option.
@@CruisingTheLand Aha ! I live in the rust belt, suburbs of Chicago! When it needs replacement for LX, do you have any idea on how much it costs?
Would you have any guidance on how to refresh the exterior side panels on the lx470? Mine seem to be cracking
You could wrap it.
I have polished thr
e metal accent strip, with a credit card a d Micro fiber. The the plastic is cracked o paint cracked, not much you can do.. except repair or wrap with Vinyl.
Wow are those beasts only 16k in there? In my country Indonesia, those two are still most wanted items which cost around 30-35k 😩
They are more like 20k-24k. Prices have gone up.
Which one would you use for off roading / overlanding?
Both, but the 200 has KDSS which may help off road performance more.

Great review 👍, can you use regular gas in 07 LX 470 or premium only ?
Hi Chris,
The 100 series are built for world wide distribution and most countries will have lower grade fuel, or stations in the middle of nowhere for these adventure rigs. Think UN preferred choice!
So you can put 89 octane and perhaps 91 octane (premium) every 4th fill up.
I tried premium and normal. No difference. So I always put normal.
Nice! Its only at 1/3 of its life!
What color combo?
87 octane is preferred.
4.7L 2UZFE very uncommon engine outside of N. America.
2UZFE uses very simplistic ignition system & common grade spark plugs. Copper base spark plugs last 30k Platinum, 60k Iridium, 100k.
For better mpgs & power use heat range 1 step colder. Spark plugs
heat range higher number = colder
lower number = hotter.
Lx I own an 11 love it
Handles like a Porsche on sport mode? Come on.... overstatement of the year.
Lol, have you driven with the AHC system and in firm Sport mode? The hydraulic system is pretty incredible and lets you take winding roads with ease
I do have a 911TT and of course its faster and handles incredibly, but its mostly a metaphor.
In the UK we get the Land Cruiser petrol. You've got to be mad to buy with the cost of petrol here.
How much is gas there? Here in California it is 3.40 a gallon or 85 cents a liter.
Cruising The Land really cheap at the moment. £1 per litre. $1.25? Per litre. We have 4.54 litres in a British gallon.
