So do I, but it didn't happen to us when we were listening to it 35-40 years ago or however long ago it was. Don't mean to be depressing, but we had the best music from mid-60's to mid-'90s and yet the world is fucked. More fucked than ever. I do hope your grandkid has a better reality than us, but, you know, past experience an' all that. What, you reckon cos this generation's got social media (but shit music) they'll do better than we did? I believe the modern idiom is LOL.
Loved it, 40 years of the Specials and counting down the days for the new album and tour and now this with Saffiyah Khan and a socially conscious song.
This is the Specials with their DNA fully intact, Go back and listen to their first two albums, "Specials" and "More Specials." You will find the lyrics political and thought provoking. In the late seventies and early eighties they woke up a generation that have been awake ever since. It is time the youngsters woke up in 2019. I doubt if they will pay attention as we did but if one or two young bands take inspiration and pick up the flag, anything could happen. What a brave record to put out, I thought Vote For Me Was worthy of the name but this is "More Specials" with a modern twist. It seems the fire has not gone out in the souls of the men who did so much for my generation. Maybe I am hoping for to much from the new album, but just maybe they could influence some new political song writers. Emotional
So many negative comments on here already. You can hear there music all the way through. The band have always stood for the same thing. Even if they have guest singer in. No different from when Rhoda Dakar guested. Music and a strong theme have always been important in this band.
Whatever bud. I know what this band were all about because I was there when they started. Don’t say women don’t deserve equal rights. And don’t tell me what to say. Clearly a troll that smokes too much bud.
@THC Medic It's because the real anti-establishment Specials were murdered in 1987 and replaced by clones who want to make free thinkers like you mindless pawns. Don't let them fool ya!
THC Medic Yes, great comment...,anyone with good observational skills, who can clearly hear and see how deception works, has come to the conclusion you point out. The music we once thought of as anti establishment, is in reality part of the very system. Deception works on many levels and across many industries in this world. Once you realise their is an agenda most of these bands have been pushing and continue to push, its quite shocking but it also sets you free from the slavery of it, God bless you
The band has always stood for loving everyone regardless of race or gender, acceptance and good times. In the past those were leftist ideas but the spectrum has gotten all fucked up lately and they likely though "eh we'll continue on with the left aye?" without realizing they have become the exact thing they have previously rebelled against.
Yes, because I was a skinhead and rudeboy in the late 1970s before it turned political. Yes, because this is just nonsense and an insult to the Prince.
@@SynchrodipityBefore it turned political? Explain Forward March by Derrick Morgan, Independence Ska by Baba Brooks or freedom sounds by the skatalites? Ska has always had a political side to it. While there are plenty of Ska bands that don't touch politics there have always been plenty that do. the Specials in particular are one such band. How do you explain songs like Do the Dog from their first ever album which have a political message?
@@fergiepunk Yeah, I get what you mean, but I was referring to being a skinhead at the end of the 1970s As in, I was 11 years old and just enjoying the music -- skinheads were largely working class kids before they got corrupted by right wing politics of groups like the National Front.

Well done on standing up to the EDL and speaking out against the terrible violence against women that is endemic in the UK. Reminds me in tone of Linton Kwesi Johnson.
Ironic that the girl is Muslim and they are standing up to women violence. Yet her religion and the countries it resides in are top of the list when it comes to women violence and no women rights. But yh edl are so bad
Why do I get the impression that there are too many old men in the comments that don’t like the song because the Commandments hit too close to home.. the song isn’t hating on men in general it’s displaying what some men are like.
MrOnionCock wow. Racism, homophobia. You must be seriously unhappy to discriminate someone because of the colour of their skin or the person they choose to love - because of the many many ways those choices of a random stranger affect you in your everyday life.
@Nigel Stocks For me The Boiler was more Specials than this. It was still on 2 Tone, Dammers designed the single cover, produced the song, Brad/Jerry/Horace were still band members and they played The Boiler live during their final tour in August 1981 before the split was announced 2 months later. This has no relevance to 2 Tone or The Specials legacy. It's like their history has been completely shafted until they go on tour and have to rely on Dammer's & Roddy's songwriting once again.
It baffles me how some people think that bands write songs like this because it is the popular thing to do. As long as racism, violence against women, and political suppression are in existence, these songs will always be written. How often do we listen to the lyrics of Joe Strummer and think that they're still relevant? The Specials, and many other bands, have always been spot on since the beginning. Only difference is that the media is just now catching up. Artists have always been ahead of the time, so it wouldn't make any sense for a band to go backwards in their way of thinking, just to be edgy. That's just not in the ideology of punk, or 2 tone. Besides, artists and the media are there to hold governments accountable, and now the media is at our fingertips. How can an ideology be popular, or mainstream, when far-right populists like Trump are still being elected? Specials were brave back then, the world is just finally catching up.
Love the tune! I'd wish Saffiyah Khan would be recognised in the title or at least in the description. Her lyrics and power after all!
