    Go figure, just got done putting up 400' of the original lights on my house, and another 400' on my parents' house... however, I think I like the originals compared to the added price tag. I don't like the splicing option, looks pretty bulky and would need to definitely be mounted with hardware, then also try to find somewhere to tuck them away on each splice to not be an eyesore. Here's my vote from them to also release a brown version of the lights, to give all the common soffit/eaves colors an easy option! Would be nice to see the max brightness differential. I know its hard to capture with a camera, but that's the biggest selling point of the Pros, and we can't really see how that looks on your house in this video. What do all those extra lumens actually do compared to the originals?

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  Год назад +6

      My trim is white so the black wouldn’t have worked for me. I didn’t want to stick them up so I used a piece of J-channel for the outside comparison. I show a brief clip in the end screen.
      As for brightness, I didn’t see any difference with RGB. I think their claim of 30 lumens per light is only in white mode.

      Same here. Just finished putting up 300+ feet but the pro has less lights and costs $100 more. I’m ok with what I got. They look better closer together anyways. Plus I got them for colors not white.

    If you cut the lights from one string and add them to another, how does this impact the lighting pattern programs?
    I greatly appreciate your video. I wanted the effects on changing colored lights for different holidays. So I definitely do not need the added white light feature of the pro version. I am going to see if I can put these in translucent plastic eggshells to see if they will mimic bulbs. Perhaps I will make a video to see how well it turns out. I will stick with the less expensive version.
    I think the pro version uses the white LEDs to indicate the 50lm output, as I did not see any appreciable difference between the two sets with the colors demonstrated in your video, other than the more full coverage with the earlier model.
    If you splice or clip the string, do you void the warranty or the extended warranties? I would like to know so I don’t get the added protection that would not apply to me if I cannot replace them if they fail.

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  2 месяца назад

      The PROs are designed to be cut. So they won’t void the warranty. Cutting the others isn’t supported so you’re on your own if a cut string fails during the warranty period.
      Scenes will work the same whether they are cut or not.

    Figures... I just put up the original version last week (bought them a couple of months ago) and I didn't even see a pro version on their website, or I would have got those instead. Having said that, I still quite happy with my purchase, I spliced my own where required anyways without issue. The only two things that bug me is they're all white. Not a great look on a house with all deep brown trim and soffits. The second is the programming, I'm sure some kid would have no issue but in my 60s and I find it user unfriendly and frustrating. I'm sure they could be made simpler to self program in somehow. Overall, they do look great on the house, and I'm happy with the result. Thanks for the video.

    Just decided to look these lights up again and noticed there's a "pro" version out now. I don't need black because my soffits are white, the brightness seems to be too similar to tell, plus I live on a street with zero lights and my house would be plenty bright already. I prefer the closer together setup with more lights per string. I'm not afraid of splicing to make it fit in the areas I need them to fit. I do think having the adjustable white temps would be nice but I don't think that single feature alone is worth it to me to buy the Pro over the standard lights since I'll likely leave the white alone anyways. I have a few questions. I live in a 3 level split house. Will the PRO version of the lights work for the following measurements??
    1) I need 16feet of lights on my Garage
    2) I then have a 18ft Gap to the next set of lights on my first upper peak ( 16feet of lights needed here)
    3)I then have a 18ft Gap to the next set of lights on the highest peak ( 60feet of lights needed here)
    So I will need 92 feet of lights. So the 100ft in the PRO set should work?
    In order to use the lights as intended and have then in one line....
    - How will I bridge the first gap of 18 feet and then the second gap of 18 feet?
    - Will the One Extensions + 2 Shorter Extensions reach? How long is the longer extension and the two smaller extensions?
    Or will I need to splice in my own wire? If so, what wire do you recommend, what gauge and where do you recommend getting it?
    - Will the splicers that come in the kit be enough to do two gaps?
    - I want to keep the Controller and Power supply on the lower garage so I have easy access to it.

    Have you had any experience with the Eufy Lights? I am trying to decide between these and the Eufy. The Eufy are $100 cheaper than the Pros. They have one White LED but sill only 150ft max. I also like that the these Govee's will use the same app as my other govee led's.

      Sorry, I don’t have any experience with Eufy. I just know Govee is the market leader. All others are copying them.

      Yeah, another reason I should go with the Govee :) One more question. How do you terminate a section you spliced? do they include something like that? So I have my garage which needs 1.5 strands and my house which is 2.5 Strands. I cut one of the garage strands in half to use for the house. How to I terminate that naked garage piece without messing up anything? Thanks!@@handydadtv

      Use the splicing kit with the cap and just screw the cap on.

    I have power right in the middle of where I want these to go, can I splice them in a way where I can send lights to either side with power right in the middle?

      No but you can use two sets with two power supplies.

    How is everyone plugging these in? I have a plug in on my back porch. The power box and controller water proof? Or would I need to cover them?

    Been looking at the original for a while but the pro is everything everyone has been asking for. They actually listened to what the people wanted and needed! Now can we buy a extra 100ft plus extensions without the controller for cheaper?

      It really does make sense for them to have two different kinds of products. Marketing likely told them to call it Pro to sell more, just think that was a mistake. The two products perform differently and serve different purposes, they should be called that accordingly; like Govee Outdoor Seasonal and Govee Outdoor Illumination
