    This is pretty much exactly how i do solo dungeons myself on the road as a truck driver. I use a combination of the dnd app to track my character information and use the graph paper to visualize a dungeon or even my travel overland

      @xeltanni8999 🤣🤣 guess I should have mentioned I did that after my shifts. That's in the past now though, did 5 years as a driver and just recently quit all together, I'm working as a nurse aid now on a career path in nursing. Significantly higher quality of life.

      I wouldn't call it more satisfying, but it certainly activates the creative center of your brain more and has endless potential. It's a fully hands on experience as opposed to clicking buttons with video games so it is more engaging in that aspect and you can get a lot out of just am hour or 2 of play where with video games because they can be so mindless feel like nothing happens unless you sit down for hours with them. If you haven't tried any of this yet I'd highly recommend the solo adventures toolkit on GMGuild part 1 and 2 which are specific for 5e or you can also use the mythic gm emulator. But the standard 5e DMG works fine, those other materials just have more tables for things like loot and overworld questing

    • @dragonchr15
      @dragonchr15 11 месяцев назад

      @@TamaHawkLive well with a video game, you are limited in the story and the actions you take don't really alter the main story, just send you down a different path that eventually gets to the same spot, ie Cyberpunk 2077....
      With this, you can literally start out with the goal of rescuing a princess and end up fighting in a rebel army that wants to overthrow her family....

    I learned something the other day. I didn't know until a few days ago that the DMG calls for 18-20 for random encounters, but in past editions, it was a 1 on a d6. 1 in 6 is 16-17% and 3 in 20 is 15%, so I wonder if they did it that way to get as close to the old method as possible while sticking with their "most things are a d20 roll" philosophy.

    If i were you id tab my dmg which eases off the page flipping, organise it for easy ref for speed, also random tables arent rules, i used to think this for a while, they should just be used as inspiration, if it doesnt make sense or really badly unbalanced dont use it, you should of just ignored the 2d8 Trogs and just had one, maybe a couple of guards that protect a entrance to the lair. Maybe the other side of the dungeon is full of spiders (which explains the cobwebs) the trogs are concerned with them been there and want them removed, could lead to some interesting rp perhaps, all depends on the communication barrier with the trogs though and how aggressive they are.. i just came up with this on the fly based on two of your rolls. As for room layout and the rest. Maybe roll the first one but if you know what type of place it is or theme you are going for the dungeon can make its self based one what you would expect to see based on the lore of the creatures there. eg Giant spiders.. theyll like;ly be alot of tunnels and narrow passageways, how many? as many as there needs to be to suit the location. Hope this helps :)

    I love how he tries to fit 5e into this mold. Many other books do a far better job at this than 5e.
    Please take a look at them instead, osr/solo specialized rpgs exist. They are also far better edited for ease of use.

    • @TamaHawkLive
      @TamaHawkLive 11 месяцев назад

      5e works perfectly fine for this and as he stated in the video is exactly how DnD used to be played back in its original conception. There are other systems which are perfectly valid but easier is not always the best. The mechanics of 5e is what's interesting to some people, you can also just download the material and play Ironsworn for free which I've played myself. It's a good fun game and nothing wrong with it but it's incredibly simplistic in battle and character progression which there is none actually and just turns into writing a novel. Thr character making and class design of 5e is what's appealing along with the monsters and lore of the game world which is a DnD specific thing.

    • @parttimed.m.1111
      @parttimed.m.1111 11 месяцев назад

      @TamaHawkLive happy you enjoy the 5e Kool aid. Look at older editions, even these would do a far superior job over what is going on here.
      Also with character building, 5e is one of the worst. Monster lore is pathetic, older editions had deep rich lore that made sense.
      5e in genneral has an issue with consistency and blandness.

    • @TamaHawkLive
      @TamaHawkLive 11 месяцев назад

      @parttimed.m.1111 There are dozens of books on the 5e system that expand on the lore of the world, and the beauty of the system is in its flexibility. Creativity is part of the 5e experience, I'm not saying it's the best system but there's no reason to be antagonistic about it just because it's the cool thing these days to shit on 5e because of the business decisions of WoTC. Despite recent choices by the company the system itself has decades upon decades of refinement that was all done by smart people. Yes Pathfinder is a meatier system but for a solo player which is what people watching these videos are interested in its too meaty, balance is key and 5e is the most balanced and also the most inherently customizable because the system itself encourages you you design the world around the mechanics that make sense for you to use. Personally from a mechanic standpoint I like Pathfinder and 3.5 way more than 5e, but thet can get overly complicated for a simple solo adventure. I like an in between system, not something as simple as a PBtA 3 dice system but not to complex, also percentage systems which favor skill numbers over d20 rolls are almost too predictable and in a solo environment that can be boaring. These are just my preferences on the hobby though and they're all valid with their own strengths.

      Each player playes as it suits them. If you find fun, it's the objective!! You can be a narrative, a crunchy, a bullet-points lover (etc.), as long as you LOVE what you're playing, nothing else matters. No method is better than another. Play & Enjoy, that's the key point!! 😊
