Thank you for doing this, guys; it is a great 3 player match. To Naven, always think of sending more than one Family member to protect your buildings. This will save you actions. And always focus on the restaurant combo. Excellent edition, very well filmed and well played. Michael is a match for you guys.
Loved watching Michael in this! He is a solid game player and his planning is very interesting to watch. I like that they did a 3player play through of this game!
Thank you Vital! I think I (Naveen) was struggling with the leverage costs at certain points in the game. Definitely will keep that a high priority in future plays.
It must be one of the best teach/playthrough videos out there. Great balance of upfront teaching to playtime, perfect editing, everything. It just flows so well. Awesome job!
Great to see your channel being supported by Vital and Eagle Games. We really enjoyed your Vital playthroughs and can tell you are genuinely fans of the games.
Thank you so much! We really appreciate all your help in getting us up and running on this one. You did a fantastic job linking the theme to the mechanisms which in turn helped us produce this video. 🫶
What a great playthrough! It was so nice to see a 3 player game and it is always great to see Michael on the channel 😊 after watching I have decided to back the game 🎉
Excellent!! Time to share this with all my gaming group peeps! Thank you! Love your stuff, best playthroughs in the industry. (Also, yayayay, 3p playthrough w/Michael! I'm sure he knew what he was getting into beforehand, ha.)
Excellent video for what looks to be an excellent game. It was nice to see Michael joining you again. Since most of our playthroughs are three player, this was great!
This was a fantastic playthrough. the payment of points for actions with a penalty for dipping in your vault was really on display, could see the gears and pain for having to make those choices. The combo'ing for the action economy with the locations and cards was awesome. Seeing the long game set up for some of those really deep combo'd actions was great! Thanks for solidifying my decision to purchase this beyond curious interest due to appreciation for the theme.
Hey there! Thank you so much for spending part of your day watching our video. We hope everything made sense, please let us know if you have any questions about gameplay. (It’s still fresh!) 😊
I don't understand the 3p hate going on here. This channel is "primarily" or "largely" (but not solely) 2p. I appreciate the varied player count being displayed in some of these videos. I come here because the plays are thorough and very enjoyable to watch. It's also great to see an additional player in place of "Sandra" or whatever automa is implemented in this game. Thanks Monique and Naveen for such high quality content. I'm excited to see the final version of this game.
Seriously, what hate? One guy asking if the game is not good at 2 since they are playing it with 3 players. And one guy implying the same but actually complaining a bit about it because it's what they expected from the channel. Calling it 3p hate is way overblown.
Well, all Lacerda games are designed primarily for 4 players. This is the was it should be played to get the best possible experience from the game. Every other variant will less players or solo is suboptimal, but that doesn't mean they cannot be fun to play.
Great video as always.! It feels so good (to me) to watch prototype or Kickstarter playthroughs and the creators are rock-solid on rules.. Seeing Michael again and a 3 player playthrough is very nice as well.. Top of the biz.! Very well done.!
at around 1:29:00 Naveen's turn was amazing.. wow, this game really becomes more and more interesting when doing actions later in the game.. :D love it so far! your playthrough is really great, I love it when you explain all your moves, so we can follow along easily.. ;)
Great video. I decided to back the game. Michael, your shirt and nails were on point as always. I always love it when you are able to join Mo and Nav for a game.
Another GREAT video, thank you. All 3 of you seemed to really understand the rules and had a little bit of strategy. You took your turns quickly. Can I ask how many times you three played this before the filming? Where do you rank this with the other Vita games?
This was a really excellent showcase of the game. I would also like to express my gratitude to Michael for demonstrating that not building a still is a viable strategy. I haven't seen anyone go that route yet, and it is good that the game allows you very different paths to victory.
Wow, I've always been a little intimidated by Lacerda games because they seem so complex and this is no exception. Very well played by you all and no spoilers but what an ending! One thing I did notice that might have swung the scores a little bit was during Michael's turn starting at 1:30:23 he performed his actions in such a way that meant he lost access to a family member when bringing them back from the dock to his VIP area since he didn't have room, so by sending the family member from his helper card to the dock instead he could've kept them all in play which might've given him more options.
After seeing that the win was 8 points away, I was thinking about that family member that I didn't have room for. At the time that I was bringing him back I knew I messed up somewhere, but nothing exact came to mind so I just moved forward . In that same moment I also "produced" a barrel illegally since I didn't have a still, I caught it later but just shows how many things you are trying to consider. In the end, it just makes me want to play again and keep getting better.
You all are awesome! Great review. Been watching for years. Backed many games because of your videos including this one! People will complain about anything. Sorry about that... I would assume a 2-player game would be exactly like a 3-player with a few slight variations and a simple bot, like in all Lacerda's games. Not hard to use a little imagination lol. Thanks again.
Played my first Lacerda game earlier this month with Kanban EV. I liked it much more than I thought because the theme was definitely not for me. I probably would not own it though. I looked through your other Lacerda playthroughs and I’m looking into Lisboa and The Gallerist to get a copy of, but I already know from this teach and playthrough that this will be my favorite of his so far.
So pleasant to watch you play, as always! 🤗❤️ Will you give your thoughts on the game compared to other Lacerda games in some other upcoming video that you know of? Thanks for your all the great work you do! 💕
During the teach, I missed the exact mechanism for tracking reduction in actions each act, and then when the first Lucky Luciano phase was being completed, I guessed that you must lose a capo, but I guessed that you would have to choose to leave one of yours in one of the action spaces permanently (thematically, I imagined that they might have been hired by said printed character/replaced them as your infamy grew). They block the space, and any time you send another capo to that area you get some benefit, and any other players capos that visit there must pay a small cost to you (thought that was nice and neat, thematically, as well 😅). Also gives an interesting choice in the last turn before end of act. Was very mildly disappointed when you just remove one capo 😂. Haven’t thought about it too deeply so maybe it’s game breaky or makes things too hard to get actions done. Very small thing, overall the game looks absolutely incredible, even for Lacerda standard. Great teach and playthrough vid as well! More 3P playthroughs with Michael! 🥳
Lacerda is my favorite designer by far, but when I saw "area control" I was very sad and disappointed, because I hate area control. After watching this playthrough, I'm so happy to see that it's not actually area control, because you can't attack/destroy/takeover the other players' buildings (other than the mobsters' buildings, but they're NPCs so I don't care), or kill off their people. I know you still have to fend off the mobsters, but again, NPC, so not as bad (read "mean") as being attacked by other players or needing to attack other players, and you know it's coming ahead of time, so it's easier to deal with or not, as you choose. Instead, this is just area majority, because it's just who has the most valuable buildings in each area that get the money, which I can totally tolerate. I know most people don't make the distinction between area control and area majority, but I have to, because I hate one and am ok with the other. Although, now that I'm not going to hate the game, my wallet will, so both a heartfelt thanks a lot, but also somewhat sarcastic thanks a lot.
I've watched two plays now and in both all six players have immediatley and specifically boosted the yellow track, is there no other viable starting paths like going heavy green and buying from boats, and then heavy purple to sell them all? Maybe buildings won't be there if you don't protect them early, but use them and then lose them idk. Seems like there is a script to do by everyone in the first age, with minor differences per player choice, and from age two on it's all about how the game builds. I also don't see the docks getting hit all that much, maybe once by each player and maybe twice by one of the three. But couldn't a player focus on doing that, always moving a boat, making them stronger, and snagging more crates and that be something? Reasons you play and explore! Looking forward to it!
Would have loved to hear your thoughts on the game (even if you leave out a full review) like which of his tittles it plays most similar too, how you felt the weight compared, thematic integration, ideal player counts, level of take that or luck, variability, etc
Hi there 👋, since this was a commissioned video we avoid review-like language in order to aline with our ethical beliefs. I will say objectively that the game has no “take that” as you can never directly attack or steal from an opponent. The only way to outdo your opponent(s) is to simply outplay them. Theme is integrated throughout the game, if you watch the ‘Rules Teach’ portion of the video, Monique attempts to convey the theme as she teaches.
@@BeforeYouPlayHi! I appreciate the transparency and effort you have put in to keep the video bias free. Hope you get to do a review further down the line and keep the good content coming.
Thank you so much for your understanding. We hope to do a re-ranking of the Lacerda games next year when this title is available in retail (rules/components may change at that time).
Love the look of this one. Seems up there with the very best Lacerdas. I don't really feel like selling my kidney to own it but they've clearly done a stellar job all around
Thanks for the playthrough! A rules question - it appears you can only buy 1 barrel from a rum runner at a time - the boat will move after 1 purchase. I don’t think buying 2 at once is allowed, which Michael does in the early game. Edit: clarification, you may buy 2 barrels to fill your truck. It’s in the rulebook and I missed it.
Hello! Thank you for the question, we were under the impression that you are allowed to buy up to 2 (the amount that your truck can hold). Can you show us where it states that there is a 1 barrel limit? We know that after attacking a Rum-runner you only steal one. Thanks!
@@BeforeYouPlayI don’t think says, specifically. However, it says that once you buy a barrel, the rum runner moves. I would think you buy one, it moves, and if you want a second one from the same boat, you’d have to follow it with your truck.
I think Naveen forgot to sell his barrel at the nightclub in his last turn..? 🤔 watched your whole playthrough now, really enjoyed it, and already backed it.. probably going to add the wooden money tokens in the pledge manager as well? 🙂
I love gangster themed games, this has been on my radar a while, and I am looking forward to it. 3 of the 4 rum runners are payable bosses in Scarface 1920, almost wish Dean O'Bannon was there. Any idea if that was intentional? Thanks for your work.
Great video - backing on K$ now. What do you guys think is Lacerda's next best game? I see I can add some of his others+deluxe editions in the kickstarter - we're fans of Pfister games, Terraforming Mars, Ark Nova... haven't played any of Lacerda's though. Love this theme and heavier Euro playstyle
All his heavy games are thematic and excellent, so really pick the theme that interests you the most. My group really loves Kanban EV. It's got a streamlined design that makes it easy to play, but has so many tough, crunchy decisions throughout. We have 4 Lacerdas in our collection (Kanban, Lisboa, On Mars, Weather Machine) and Kanban definitely gets tabled the most often, but that will depend on the themes your group likes!
Hi guys, great video! What were your final thoughts on this game compared to the other Lacerda’s? I really dig the theme here and it seems to be implemented very well.
I am curious, all 3 of you started with strength. Is it the best action to do in the beginning, so start of game is kinda predetermined or are there other viable strategies regarding leveling up your board?
is there an advantage of upgrading a speakeasy to a casino, instead of building the casino somewhere else? I didn't get that move by your guest..? I am confused.. :)
i am very confused by the pending police design choice...why not just place police out right away if they'll be there for scoring? why do you place the temporary markers? seems like they don't mean anything different... Can someone enlighten me?
The reason is that police make your establishments inoperable, this forces you to make decisions/find ways to get your family into the district to make sure they operate.
This looks amazing, but what is it with companies and sliding cards inside boards ? I always sleeve my cards to protect them. Do sleeved cards fit in these boards ?
I was super excited about this game. I actually almost went ahead and backed it this morning, but decided to watch the teach from BYP. I'm not as sold as I was tbh. I heard this was the most approachable Lacerda game...I don't think that is accurate. The 30 minute rules teach did not make me think the actions make logical sense and are easy to teach other players. It also makes me nervous that it has a common Lacerda feature of "you have to do X so you can do Y so you can do Z". Which has always made me feel like I was at work, not playing a game that is fun. I've played On Mars, KEV, Lisboa and don't have any of those in my collection any more. I love so much about this game...just need to breathe and make sure I can actually get the chance to play this with friends if I get it. Coming straight off the elegance of ARCS, so there is a high bar right now. Great video BYP! One day someone is going to take Monique down...but I'm not holding my breath! THank you for putting it together.
This one is a dense boy, we’re assuming they will slowly trickle out over time. Preparing this video was quite labor intensive so we assume that’s the case for all creators as well.
Great question! Ant Lab is working on their 2 player video and then The Brothers Murph will be doing a 2 player livestream halfway through the campaign!
Yeah I thought that was the case as well. Unsure how the bump on any track would have affected so many potential future actions, but he would have been one higher on the infamy track and at the end of the game one more spot would get him a black helper card and given what he had for bottles at the end of the game and at least with what was present he could have gotten another unique bottle and one that would have been worth $20 mean he could have won, but obviously different bottles would have been out and it's not the easy saying that. He and everyone missed it so Monique is the winner!
Sorry if you already said so in the video (I just watched the introduction plus some) but why are you playing this game with 3 players? Is it not as good with 2? Just wondering as I usually only have one other person to play with.
@@EagleGryphonGames Thanks for addressing this. This is frankly a disappointing marketing decision. Naveen and Monique's channel largely focuses on 2p gameplay, and they are experienced Lacerda players who generally do a much better job of showcasing his games than other channels that have historically participated in your Kickstarter campaigns.
I gotta ask.., are these games scripted? How is it there are so many great combos you guys activate but literally zero AP thinking about moves on your turns (even in a Lacerda game)?!! 😂😂😂
I don't know but the first moves of each player is the same. This doesn't really give the game a good mechanicaly balanced impression. All 3 players Naveen, Monique and Michael are experienced players and I trust them to take the best move possible. I want to see the other playthroughts to test my hypothesis.
@@ilqrd.6608 I didn't write it's true. I wrote that I wanted to check other playthroughts before making assumptions. All are exeptionally good euro players and I trust their experience. If all three made the same first move it had to be the best one.
Really enjoy the theme and the component quality looks amazing. Not a big fan of the color scheme of the board. The whole presentation seems kinda dull brown. Not too sure. The price point is way too high at $150. Sadly gonna have to pass on this one 😭😭
I'm honestly a little disappointed. Normally you also give your first impression. why was that left out this time? Maybe because you were too critical last time by Inventions ? You used to be more independent. Since you doing this professionally, it has been lost. Please don’t misunderstand, I love your work.
As the others above have stated, we don’t provide review-like or subjective language for commissioned videos. We feel it would not be ethical to do so.
Yes they have never given first impressions for kickstarter games because they are paid to play them and they dont want to give a false paid for review. I actually respect that they hold firm to this.
As a channel that largely showcases how games play at 2p, it is surprising, and frankly disappointing, that you filmed this at 3p. To me, this implies that the game must not be as good at 2p. As experienced Lacerda players, your channel fits a particular niche when previewing his games. So while other channels may eventually cover 2p as part of the campaign, past experience says it won’t be the same quality as if you would have done it (rules mistakes, unsophisticated strategies). It’s also a shame that you don’t share any feedback about the 2p experience other than behind a Patreon paywall, assuming it’s even addressed in that video.
Ended up backing this one and it will be my first (but not last) Lacerda game. Lucky Luciano is actually in my wife's family tree, so we couldn't pass up this on theme alone!
Thank you for doing this, guys; it is a great 3 player match. To Naven, always think of sending more than one Family member to protect your buildings. This will save you actions. And always focus on the restaurant combo.

Backed this game before watching and even more excited for it after. Interested to see how you compare it to other Lacerda games.
Very excited. Looks great. Though the level of gooning might be unhealthy.
This may actually be a contender to take On Mars out of my top Lacerda game.
Hi guys, I have no Lacearda's and was wondering if you think this one or another one would be a good one to start with. This theme appeals to me :)
Thanks!
Thank you very much!!
For me, it's "On Mars"! One my top rated games. Don't let the weight rating on, bgg, scare you. Once you have played it one time, it all makes sense.
Curious what Monique's shirt was, and today I learned something.
Thanks for the play through... this game seems really interesting. I don't own a Lacerda game...yet... would you recommend this or "On Mars"?
Looks great but I really dislike turn order based mechanisms. I feel it distracts completely from the play experience and immersion
This looks amazing, but what is it with companies and sliding cards inside boards ? I always sleeve my cards to protect them. Do sleeved cards fit in these boards ?
They fit! Check the KS for more details. :)
@@Shazirah_Kaur OK, thank you !
Love your playthrough but WHERE IS THE REVIEW??? You cant not give us your thoughts!!!
Where are the two player playthroughs EG talk about here in the comments?
Yeah I’ve not seen a single 2 player playthrough, just previews and reviews.
Where would you rank this in the Lacerda series?
1:27:40 couldn’t naveen just use a goon instead of paying Monique since he had so many to get enough strength?
Yes technically, but I think he had plans for that goon and was willing to spend $ instead of having to refill them.
@@BeforeYouPlay ok just wanted to make sure I understood the rules!
Let that be a lesson to you on daring to bring in other people 🤣
1:03:50 Michael never got his bonus for building the nightclub?
Yeah I thought that was the case as well. Unsure how the bump on any track would have affected so many potential future actions, but he would have been one higher on the infamy track and at the end of the game one more spot would get him a black helper card and given what he had for bottles at the end of the game and at least with what was present he could have gotten another unique bottle and one that would have been worth $20 mean he could have won, but obviously different bottles would have been out and it's not the easy saying that. He and everyone missed it so Monique is the winner!
Please tell, were you playing with wooden money or standart?
Thick cardboard, so assuming standard
Poor Stephanie...
"Giddy up"
Sorry if you already said so in the video (I just watched the introduction plus some) but why are you playing this game with 3 players? Is it not as good with 2? Just wondering as I usually only have one other person to play with.
plus 1
For a game like this, I'm sure they figured they would get a better representation of the game with 3 rather than 2.
Great question! We had specifically requested that they play it with 3 players, as we have others showcasing the 2 player version of the game. 😊
@@fiddling Disappointing how? Lol
Because it's a 3p game rather than a 2p one?
Great playthrough! Just wanted to mention that Lucky Luciano's last name is pronounced "lu-chee-a-no," just like how "cello" is pronounced.
I gotta ask.., are these games scripted? How is it there are so many great combos you guys activate but literally zero AP thinking about moves on your turns (even in a Lacerda game)?!!
😂😂😂
Haha nope. It comes down to painstaking and meticulous editing post filming.
@@BeforeYouPlay Out of curiosity, how long was the actual playtime?
🙂👍
☺️
I don't know but the first moves of each player is the same. This doesn't really give the game a good mechanicaly balanced impression. All 3 players Naveen, Monique and Michael are experienced players and I trust them to take the best move possible. I want to see the other playthroughts to test my hypothesis.
Are you nuts? Do you think they played this often?
@@ilqrd.6608 I didn't write it's true. I wrote that I wanted to check other playthroughts before making assumptions. All are exeptionally good euro players and I trust their experience. If all three made the same first move it had to be the best one.
@@radip Why would it be the best one? Maybe it is just the one they like best
@@ilqrd.6608 ok, this conversation doesn't lead anywhere and it's pointless
Is he single? 🤭
Nope, 😆
Dear Lord.
The Lord of Light?
Really enjoy the theme and the component quality looks amazing. Not a big fan of the color scheme of the board. The whole presentation seems kinda dull brown. Not too sure. The price point is way too high at $150. Sadly gonna have to pass on this one 😭😭
I'm honestly a little disappointed. Normally you also give your first impression. why was that left out this time? Maybe because you were too critical last time by Inventions ? You used to be more independent. Since you doing this professionally, it has been lost. Please don’t misunderstand, I love your work.
Maybe because it's intended as a KS preview to showcase the game, not to give a review on an unfinished product.
It is a sponsored video. No reason to give an opinion because it would be biased anyway
Their job is to show you how its played. What's important to you as a potential buyer is your first impressions.
They have stated in other comments that they where requested to play this at 3
@@Allies1 Thanks, I saw EGG commented in another thread and replied to them with similar feedback.
yes, the game is very good at 2. really good. :) but it's me saying.
Great teach, as always. Not for me though. Boring euro
Ended up backing this one and it will be my first (but not last) Lacerda game. Lucky Luciano is actually in my wife's family tree, so we couldn't pass up this on theme alone!
