Oh I started to look into this. Found a wood box feed station where it had a drawer to store the kibble container in and had the bowls(large dogs) built into the lid and could be paints to match your colour palette. Also pull out dog bowls for a drawer. Also found bowl holders and dog beds that could match the hones design style.

We already had a medicine cabinet in our bathroom but we need more space and I wanted a place to hide my electric toothbrush. My husband recessed a medicine cabinet with an outlet, and then we put a picture over it rather than the typical mirror. It simply Looks like a piece of art in the bathroom.

😂 "the moment they're not there is the moment you need them!" ALWAYS!
My wall outlets have disappeared with the electricity work done... Some were porcelain (kitchen and bathroom) and a major one in the entrance was made of brass and had 8 pearl buttons...
I wanted them back, was told: "Too late! They were outdated anyway!" 😫
(So i'm now shopping for that online...)
My main UGLY INDOOR essential was the twin bed mattress for my great dane, since it had to be in the living room. I unsuccessfully tried to teach the dog to use the couch, but he was previously trained not to do so by his breeder/ trainer! 🤷🏼‍♀️
UGLY OUTDOOR essentials are NUMEROUS: garbage & recycling bins, shovels, garden sheds, Clothes-lines, electric lines, etc. (You also don't see those ugly essentials in landscape magazines.)

Love how “real” you are about so many of these things we all have. My apartments’s breaker panel is in my bedroom and fortunately hidden when the door is open. And since I live in a small apartment with a cat that wanders at night, it’s always open. My mother had one in the den of her old house so when she put up her wallpaper, she covered the panel cover too. You knew it was there but since only the slide that opened the latch showed, you never really noticed it.

In our new house, the HVAC installer stuck a large return air vent on a wall in my foyer between the door to my coat closet and the door to the garage. This thing sits at 5 ft. off the ground and extends up a good 3 ft. The walls of my foyer and halls have wainscoting to a chair rail, and are papered, above. The wainscoting is a very soft taupe that picks up the background colour of the wallpaper, but my doors, rather substantial door and window trim, and high baseboards are white throughout the house. I thought about painting a vent cover white, but decided it would look stark against the paper. Painting it the same colour as the wainscoting would, I thought, be too obviously an attempt to hide it, particularly as it sits between two white doors. I found a company that custom fabricates wood vent covers from any wood species in any size. I decided, rather than try to hide the vent, I would make it a feature. My entire house is heated by under-floor radiant heat, which necessitated installing engineered wood flooring. We chose birch that was distressed with an espresso stain. I ordered a vent in birch, and had it stained to match my floor. I never though a vent cover could be beautiful, but it is! Curiously, nobody seems to notice it, despite it being a dominant wall feature. Those who do admire it and are surprised I could have sourced this unique solution to what could otherwise have been an eyesore..

In a former home, I remodeled an inner-city rowhome in Northeast USA, where my main floor was actually the original basement, with the kitchen on the sidewalk end, and the main entrance accessed from an excavated courtyard in the middle of the block of rowhomes. Long story short, when I created a more open concept and attempted to finish walls in a former utility room where aesthetics had never been considered, I had to deal with obscuring-with-access all kinds of stuff: meters, shut-offs, security controls, electrical panels. I worked with my framer to create a unique solution that involved an exceptionally large piece of framed art that could be removed to provide the necessary access to those items.

oh the ugly closet door dilemma, I felt that! spent years only being able to see like 18 inches of my closet at a time because our sliders were always broken or stuck. bi-folds, I felt would take away about 8 inches on either side of an already small opening....so we just recently took the sliding doors down, hung a decorative curtain rod and some nice curtains that open to the outside of the door frame, so no more limiting our access. very happy with it.

I had a long hallway with an ugly utilitarian thermostat on it and drywall patching around it. Looked terrible. So for open house, I hung colorful paintings down the hall wall. LED lights have changed my world, adding functionality throughout my home. I have motion sensor led lights in all the cabinets and closets as well as in the main hallway going into the bathroom. They don't interfere with décor and prevent midnight toe stubs (or worse) at the same time. I have painted all of the closet doors in my house to match the walls and yes, they do sort of disappear. I paint everything on the walls like the fuse box or vents and random cabinets the same color as the wall itself. To me it just looks cleaner and keeps utility items from upstaging my intended focal area. I hate having all the wires and chargers showing, so I put time into hiding them with the surrounding décor, lol. That wouldn't work in minimalist contemporary spaces, maybe, but if you have stuff, this works well.

I have a one piece built in bath tub and shower without glass doors, so I use two fabric shower curtains (with plastic liners).
The curtains are double, so it doesn’t look like a sheet and I chose a fabric with a vertical stripe.
I feel that one can’t go wrong with a subtle stripe that coordinates with the rest of the bathroom and home decor.
I also installed a curved shower curtain rod and use rings that are the same metal as the sink and tub taps.
My pet peeve is toilet lids that are always left up.
As my home is quite small and an open concept, I like the whole place to look cohesive

I have been watching you for some time now, you are my morning coffee, inspiration, go to; truly enjoy you and your design choices/presentation (I’m a blue and white pottery lover, too). Question, whatever happened to “eclectic,” has it been swallowed whole by maximalism and churned up by boho? I have had beautiful electric rooms all my designing life, they are curated, roomy, calm. Bring back more of your breakdown of divine homes, like you did with Athena Calderone, I watched that one so many times I was surprised when I walked into my kitchen and there wasn’t a giant island! Thanks so much for your comment! We really appreciate your support in subscribing to the channel! I think there is still eclectic without having to go BOHO or being Maximalist. It just depends on how a person decorates their space. You can have a minimalist that just uses essential eclectic pieces or someone who has modern or traditional styles for example that incorporate some eclectic decor into their space. You might enjoy my video on Mixing Design Styles on the channel if you haven't already watched it. Happy Holidays!

Great video! I am renting and it's a two-level house which means I have a portable air conditioner on each floor. It drives me crazy when we have long heat waves as they take so much space and they are ugly. When the heat wave is over, I can store them easily though but that can last for weeks.

Of course you have provided useful and elegant tips. We all have to live with these things. Hiding the chargers in the bathroom is definitely going on the renovation list for when I renovate my main bathroom. I wouldn't have even thought of that before this video so a big thanks. There will be no charging possible in my tropical jewel box pink bathroom off the Florida room but that's ok. Seeing the outlets doesn't bother me but maybe it should. Have to think about it.

    • @GarrettLeChic
      @GarrettLeChic  2 года назад +1

Honestly, you would need to put them in cabinets if you have room for them to be stored in that manner. That's one reason I recommend cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling in a kitchen because we can put things in the portions that are not used regularly at the top, and have some extra room for things like small appliances in lower cabinets.

Great video! I’d love to hear about ways to make pet accessories better looking. Like dog beds for bigger dogs.
At my last house, I had kind of an ugly thermostat for the HVAC. I got a photo I’d taken of a bench covered in fall leaves printed on canvas, then cut a hole in the back to fit the thermostat. I attached it to the wall with tiny hinges on one side so you could swing it open to change the temperature. It just looked like art instead of a thermostat.
