- Minecraft is one of the most popular games of all time, and because of its huge player base, there have been some troublesome individuals that have caused drama. Some of those include Dream, CallMeCarson, SkyDoesMinecraft, Lionmaker, and plenty of others that I have not mentioned. Of course, the developers, Mojang Studios, are not immune to this drama as they have clashed with the community, be it controversial updates or changes to the game. In this video, we'll discuss many of these notable controversies and explain them to ensure they maintain their place in Minecraft history...
Now, if you're a boomer or someone who's been living under a rock, you may be asking yourself, what is Minecraft?
According to Wikipedia: "Minecraft is a sandbox video game developed by Mojang Studios. The game was created by Markus "Notch" Persson in the Java programming language. Following several early private testing versions, it was first made public in May 2009 before being fully released in November 2011, with Notch stepping down and Jens "Jeb" Bergensten taking over development. Minecraft has since been ported to several other platforms and is the best-selling video game of all time, with over 238 million copies sold and nearly 140 million monthly active players as of 2021.
In Minecraft, players explore a blocky, procedurally generated 3D world with virtually infinite terrain and may discover and extract raw materials, craft tools and items, and build structures, earthworks, and simple machines. Depending on game mode, players can fight hostile mobs, as well as cooperate with or compete against other players in the same world. Game modes include a survival mode (in which players must acquire resources to build in the world and maintain health) and a creative mode (where players have unlimited resources and access to flight). There is also a wide variety of user-generated content, such as modifications, servers, skins, texture packs, and custom maps, which add new game mechanics and possibilities."

Hey everyone, you probably notice that this is a reupload. For the first 28,000 viewers, I want to really thank you all for watching the old video!
Basically, the video got the cursed yellow dollar sign and I haven't been able to edit the video because college is keeping me on a tight leash. I've finally got the time to censor this video so hopefully RUclips recommends it to more people. @AJ Cooper it was because in his lovely world he only expands it by like 1000 blocks every update, and in the update for the jungle he didn't get one in his world, so he used creative mode to get them. if I remember correctly

Actually it was more like the odds went from 1 out of the population of 1000 Earths to 1 out of 4 Chicagos. Which is still a big number but not quite as absurd. It doesn't matter anyway though since the "anonymous statistician"s work was ripped to shreds by many people for being completely off

The mix of me having a perception of him as an honest creator as he did nothing up to that point to convince me otherwise, him hiring a professional, and him framing the entire argument as "they said i got too lucky" and I believed him but still stopped watching his videos since I feel they dropped in quality after that. I still am floored he had the balls to then try and claim "i cheated and lied to you all but swearsies i didnt know guys" lost every ounce of respect i had for him and im not shocked hes a groomer

Honestly at this point, I'm amazed at all the minecraft youtubers from my childhood who HAVEN'T done horrible things or quit all together. Like, I respect the hell out of Captain Sparklez for sticking with it for so long with 0 controversies despite stagnating.
I decided to see if that was true. Only one video seems to possibly point out drama on him, and that likely is nothing as it's name hints to nothing. It's all just other drama videos on other people. Good for him. I also got to enjoy the CG5 short of CG5 singing about his sparkley abs, Schlatt's facial hair, and immense anxiety. Thank you for allowing me this :>

Personally, the Caves and Cliffs update, is frickin awesome and I love the massive caves because it reminds me of real “super caves” like for instance, the Super Cave in Vietnam, where it has its own weather system!

Some of it is subjective, but a fair amount of the updates I think are legitimately just underwhelming or poorly done
The 'Better Together Update' legitimately ruined my game. I can no longer play it without my inventory interface glitching, making me create or select items I didn't want. I miss so much of what my game was before the update. I had completely free texture packs/worlds etc, which are now hidden behind paywalls. A decade of Minecraft ruined by a stupid update. Sadly I won't be repurchasing Minecraft again in any foreseeable future.
@@highlandbluehills I really hate the trend of basing games on their mobile versions. Almost without exception, the mobile version of a game is by far the WORST version. Imo crossplay with mobile is not worth the massive compromises it takes to use the mobile version on consoles, pc, etc
I still believe that the massive caves can be balanced in many ways.
1. Add the ability to attach torches to crossbows, so players can shoot at blocks from afar to light up caves.
2. Add some sort of rope/easier way to get below a block.
3. Make mobs' target range a bit lower when players descend from above. This would make it less annoying to try to get down without getting sniped by skeletons.
4. Add more potions to help make caves less tedious. (whatever those would be, I'm no game developer)
The rope would be really interesting like in terraria where it would let down a few rope blocks
Trying to light up the new caves is honestly one of the biggest problems I have. I often end up avoiding the big caves because it's hard to see anything and you constantly get swarmed by mobs where that was never really something you had to deal with in the old caves. And I mean yeah you can change your gamma to see (cheating imo) or use nightvision potions (but that requires getting to the nether first) but even then you still have the mob problem. I dunno it feels like a big issue they created and then never addressed at all

note on the copper thing: my band director loves Minecraft but he's like really colorblind and he can't tell the iron and copper apart at all. like they look exactly the same so he has to just hope for the best (wasting time and pickaxes). i feel like something should have been done graphics-wise to make it more differentiable considering a pretty good chunk of people have red-green color blindness and iron and copper are the colors that affects.

For those who didn't see Game Theory's video on phantoms, basically phantoms are heavily based on actual hallucinations that appear when you don't get enough sleep. Almost everything about the phantom was based off of sleep hallucinations, even how many days it take for them to spawn. Mojang put serious dedication into the phantom.

My personal opinion on the Carson situation is that the 19 and 17 age gap isn’t the _hugest_ deal, but the way in which the relationship existed and was handled was absolutely toxic and an abuse of his celebrity status.

Unpopular opinion, I actually really like the phantom. Not only does it give me a real difficult challenge, it also gives me a perfect excuse to sleep every night. If I have an Elytra? I can use the membrane dropped from the phantoms to repair it

@@RagnarokMoki you do know you can get mending from villager trades right? They sell them for like 30 emeralds each. You can also get those emeralds very easily from fletcher or farmer trades.
If anything waiting around for a phantom is more time consuming than just setting up a villager trade. No exploration required.

Hey man, I really like this video and I respect the work you put into it. I understand this is a re-upload, but I still feel I wanted to give two points of constructive criticism.
1 - Audio balancing. I struggle with this as well in my videos sometimes, but somewhat often in this video, the BGM sounds almost on level with your microphone audio. This makes it hard to pay attention to what you are saying during such moments.
2 - This is absolutely subjective in terms of quality, but maybe consider sizing down the webcam a bit and moving either to the left or right side of the screen. Often times I found myself going cross-eyed trying to focus on you and the footage behind you running at the same time.
Again, very interesting video. I was never huge into Minecraft, but I have experienced the cultural impact of many of these events since the game's inception, and seeing all of that stuff brought into greater context here was cool. Thanks for all the work you put in.
The segment on adam (skydoesminecraft) hurt man, I stopped watching his stuff after the whole drama with elisa and him and didnt check up on his stuff or if anything new occurred. this was a first time hearing all this for me and to learn about the abuse he caused makes me wish i didnt know about him altogether

41:07 the worst part about the lionmaker situation is when for reasons I will never understand / know he then posted a nude image of the girl he was talking to on his twitter. Now, I'm no expert on law enforcement but shouldn't he be arrested for that? The guy posted a nude image of an underage girl, I'm pretty sure that's grounds for arresting someone.

I lost respect for adam (skydoesminecraft) as soon as all that info dropped. For years I gave him the benefit of doubt that he was just in another rough patch of life, but as we can all see he was a monster for most of our lives

1.9 did not make fighting mobs more difficult. It buffed regeneration speed which makes eating and regenerating while fighting mobs easier. It added shields which can block almost every mobs attacks. And it added the sweeping attack so you can attack multiple mobs with one hit.
The fact that you stoped thr music and the background game play when you were talking about technoblade was so nice, you gained my respect and sub my guy

For me, elytra was one of the best thing they added and the best reward for killing a boss. (Nether star is the second). I mean, travelling so far without the need to use/build blocks just to go from point a to point b? It can also save you from falling to void or lava esp in hardcore mode so, I don't really get the hate for that.
Plus, you need to defeat the boss and search for the end city in order to elytra. (I know there is a glitch wherein you can go to the end islands without defeating the dragon but you still need so much ender pearls and open the portal)
With Carson, 17 and 19 are perfectly acceptable to be with each other, the real question is what really happened in those DMs.

I always imagined fandoms as lush rainforests filled with amazing ideas, and standoms as dry deserts, with a ton of hidden snakes and random other predators stalking anyone who walks their sands
I kinda expected to see "Team Crafted's controversies" in one of the layers (at least the deeper ones) since there's Sky or Bashur 's one, though it also makes sense to not be included since that one is not that well-known by many people outside of the fandom
I really like these, just delivering full in depth information about things without your own bias with a little bit of goofy humor. Good job!

I've never liked Dream he's always come across as smug and full of himself and now he's expressed extreme cowardice with him not apologizing about him cheating even if it was an "accident" all I can say is that Dream is guilty as hell and is too cowardly and cocky that he won't admit to it.

In the original release you physically could not attack during the cooldown, and so many people hated that change that mojang had to change it to be the way it is now
It’s one of the things that do many people forget about 1.9
As a console player myself the update ruined my Minecraft. I had free texture packs/worlds etc, but now everything is gone and hidden behind paywalls. I grew up with easy mechanics but now I can't even open my inventory without it glitching and ruining whatever I was trying to make. I haven't played Minecraft since the update and won't be repurchasing it for my PS5.
That update ruined an entire decade of gameplay for me.

The only reason Keemstar brought up the Carson Grooming allegations was so that it could get people off his ass for helping to incite a failed insurrection back in 2021. Yes, that one.
What's even worse is that the word grooming is being used.
Grooming is a process where the naivety of a child is exploited over time. What he did was sexual harassment at best, and there age gap is a none criteria in any civilized society. Literally no difference between a 17year old and 19 year old.

Likely the Moobloom wouldn’t have done much and the Iceologer would be too annoying to fight and wouldn’t drop much.

Caves & Cliffs Aka the update where they bit off more than they could chew since all the promised features at the start were spread over 4 updates part 1 and 2, the wild update (really just part 3 and old promised features), and the trail and tales update that is pretty crazy.

People really downplay the usefulness of the recovery compass, and saying the redstone room is stupid because RUclips exists ignores the long standing problem in Minecraft of there being zero in game explanation of many game mechanics
Good video, but you forgot to add one MAJOR controversy: RUclips uploaded a video to celebrate the Minecraft community on RUclips but deleted it quickly after without saying why, or even giving a statement. There are other cases like this, and much more. I'd definitely watch an expanded version of the iceberg if you upload one.

Plus spam clicking was incredibly detrimental, because not only do mobs not take damage when they're red, it wears down durability if you attack during that time
Good video, but I’ve got some Advices for other Iceberg videos. It would be good if you write the point you’re talking about small in a corner. Also if you get to another point, it would be good to show the Iceberg zoomed to the point and showing other points next to them. Also show the whole Layer if you get to another.

I arrived "late" to play minecraft... I started playing from 1.8.9, and I must say that I remember infinite oceans very well. Since I was just starting out, I hated having to build in complex locations (where there were so many trees to cut down for example, I preferred to plant the trees where I wanted), so I was always looking for a plain, or a desert, even if my favorite biomes have always , it's the swamps and jungles... Then I always looked for places near the villages, so as to have villagers, with whom to trade, or raid the village... I still try to build in flat places, with few trees, which I tend to replant, and near a village if I can, (though definitely outside the village boundaries, villages are noisy and boring in the long run!).
Some of the mentioned youtubers (especially the old ones), I knew them by name, others I've practically never heard of, some I've never really followed, but I've seen them in collaborations with other youtubers...
Many of these old youtubers have forever ruined the image of youtubers who carry minecraft... We can't deny it, now we are all wondering which is the next minecrafter that will be unmasked like the rest of the old minecrafters unmasked.

This may be an extremely unpopular opinion, but I personally liked the combat update. The combat system was rudimentary at best before the update and is now more enjoyable, even though PVP can take longer, it feels more fun to be more strategic with your strikes and blocks with a shield rather than just constantly spamming with your sword and using a fishing rod to close distances.
Bedrock doesn't have 1.9 PvP because of that very reason.. Mojang saw how much people didn't like 1.9+ pvp so they stuck with 1.8 pvp
It's really weird, they're always talking about parity but then leave in huge differences like that
