In today’s video, we’ll be comparing our two Self-Directed Checkbook IRAs: the IRA LLC and IRA Trust.
How are they similar?
The IRA LLC and IRA Trust are both Self-Directed Checkbook IRAs that allow you to invest with Checkbook Control.
With Checkbook Control, you can invest in alternative assets in real-time without a custodian for everyday transactions.
The IRA LLC and IRA Trust avoid transaction fees normally associated with Self-Directed IRAs.
That’s more money for you to invest!
Lastly, IRA LLCs and IRA Trusts are available in all 50 states.
How are they different?
The IRA LLC offers multi-member investing, which the IRA Trust does not.
Though the IRA Trust has a strong level of liability protection, it’s not as robust as the protection of the IRA LLC.
If you’re looking into foreign investments, the IRA LLC is recognized in most countries, whereas the IRA Trust is not as widely known.
On the other hand, the IRA Trust offers more confidential investing, as LLCs usually must file with the state in which they’re set up.
Depending on the state, you may be required to pay state fees and a franchise tax with the IRA LLC. With the IRA Trust, you avoid these additional costs.
