If only these cities and states would devote one tenth as much effort to supporting small-to-middle-sized businesses as they do to pandering to these giants they'd be much better off.
If amazon wants to set up in NoVa, fine. However the taxpayers shouldn't be funding the bill for a trillion dollar company in an area of the country in which every f-in multinational and tech company are and/or want to set up shop.
Frankly, I wouldn't worry about the completion of Phase 2, or even the future expansion of HQ2. The only reason it has slowed is to provide Amazon time to realign their post pandemic plans. They are still figuring out their future business model. Slamming the brakes on their real estate development around the world makes good financial sense. No doubt, some places will be cut back....but, not Northern Virginia and not HQ2. Amazon is now so big that it needs to have a heavy presence in Washington, DC. This is a must. Just having offices on K Street isn't enough. Nor, is Jeff Bezos' DC mansion, which is the largest private home there. Nor, are the huge data and office complexes they have in the Virginia suburbs. They need substantial numbers of employees in the local communities. In the end, it benefits them to close down offices in other cities and shift the jobs to Virginia.
I don’t think it really matters at this point whether the entire project is completed sooner or later. You didn’t mention which divisions/operations were happening there which could be important: AWSis likely to continue to grow whereas the others are more consumer fickle, changing demand for VA/DC space
Amazon should have located in Philadelphia. Its smack in the middle of the North East Corridor, its cheap to live there, Washington DC, New York and Jersey Shore are close easy weekend trips. it doesn't have the tech infrastructure they need but they are big enough to change that.
No they picked the correct spot. I work in pentagon city and I love what Amazon is doing for the whole region. The dmv region and Amazon is a perfect match.
Those two countries separated by a river seem like they would have been the best option to ME … But what do I know I’m not a developer or involved in this project
Virginia should have slashed the tax incentives in half when Amazon slashed their promised jobs in half. They were looking for 1 city for 50k jobs but split it with NY for 25k each. Even after AOC kicked them out they didn’t bother to bring them anywhere else. My guess is that they never wanted to create a 2nd HQ. They just wanted a way to get some tax incentives.
No mention of Virginia Tech building their Innovation Campus there as part of the deal? You didn't do enough research or don't understand its importance and cost.
There's no such thing as "north america" other than a geographic landmass reference. There is Continental America, the American Region and Greater America. Bezos griminess aside, he never thought about anything other than Continental America.

Amazon populating an area suffering from high office vacancies supported many small businesses
If you don’t want thousands of jobs just say so lol
With the amount of employees it does directly support small businesses . 50k people spending their money at small businesses
Seeing cities meatriding Amazon is so funny
The sudd gay gay fat gay
This was exactly what I needed to hear from this project. Glad to hear that there is still some hope ! Thanks
I'd love to see them modify the project to feature some much needed housing. But it's Amazon. So, probably not.
Amazon wanted to go where there were the most tech workers already in the area.

it's really messed up that corporations like Amazon have to get a tax break in order for them to build a headquarters in your city
I enjoyed this video 👍🏾
Cities shouldn't be trying to appeal to companies like this.
Glad this New Sears didn’t build in Chicago
I despise Amazon but I love this channel
Great info. Was just thinking about this thing
Bugs Bunny: "Poor little Nimrod."

Decaying crime ridden city with no future or value proposition.

7:18: Can somebody explain how rising interest rates influence your decision if you have enough cash to pay for the development upfront?
It makes everything more expensive for the contractors and other related companies as well.
Why would you pay upfront when you can finance it ? You can use the money in other capital investment.
Nothing good comes from Amazon, but I’ll continue to throw my money at it.
Raleigh, NC would've been the best choice for location.
I live in Chapel Hill and am glad we dodged the Amazon bullet. I will stick with the universities, Epic Games, and RTP
@@patrickkelly737 Raleigh*
Absolutely not! Austin would have pulled them in way before Raleigh!
Too small of a town, the metro is 1.5 million and there isn’t large international airport like DC.
@@yookalaylee2289it would have been RTP, if the area were even considered, not Raleigh.

Not many tech workers there compared to Northern Virginia.
I’m assuming this is sarcasm ?
yay a giant glass poo!
The office looks like a 💩 emoji

I noticed this too lol
Am I the only one that sees it a poop shape/ soft serve?
Why do you have Scott Galloway up there haha what does he have to do with Amazon?
remote jobs are better
Looks Like 💩

Ohhhhhhh ok ok ok I see now
Such an incredibly inefficient floor plan. It looks cool but I can’t imagine that being economically viable.

North America does exist
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America
That opposition to Amazon in NyC from local politicians was the beginning the downfall of NYC .
