Some shenanigans going on with my zFTP! Doesn't matter, this was a good effort, as opposed to the previous race: ruclips.net/video/bmrMeBxFJC4/видео.html
Yea the Zwift cat algorithm is very interesting. I’m very similar ratio to to you (67 kg / 235w ftp) and finished this race 5 seconds behind you at 19:15 thinking I should get bumped to B with a 3.5 w/kg 20 min avg (even though it wasn’t actually 20) I did a club ladder race where I was trying to help my team and poured myself into it and that was enough to bump me to B. I’ll look for you in the B pins! I enjoy your videos!
Good racing with you last night, the champs is a tough route to get right got the final sprint got the line ... its such a watt-sucking race with ut being so flat!
Thank you for the race, too, it was fun (and a lot harder than what I am used to from non-broadcast times - I talk about it in the upcoming video - the front felt more like a mid-B race 😅)!
@RoadtoA did you see you got a mention on the zwift live stream too? The two that got away at the end were wheelsucking the whole way and finished on 2.9, the bloke who didn't stop talking was mega funny too ... and didn't win with was funny!
The calculation is strange. That said, I was assured by the support that the calculation works as intended (without getting any specifics) so that's what I'm rolling with now. Congrats on your increase!
Hey, I've also had figures decrease from recording new PBs. The conclusion I've come to is Zwift uses formulas to extrapolate zFTP and zMAP from several durations and uses the most recent PB instead of the one yielding the best result. In this case it probably used your 15 min power, which is not your actual peak since it was done within a longer effort. It's also possible you're better at pacing for 30 mins than for 15 mins. If you want your zFTP to improve, do an all out effort of a set duration instead of racing to a finish line. Still, congrats on a solid performance. Reminded me of the time I peaked at 194 BPM trying to get over a hill in the front, 15k from the finish 😂
Well done, hill are horrendous 🤮. Could the discrepancy in Zwift power due to measuring it over 20 minutes? as you finished about 19 minutes plus 1 minute of zero watts? That's a great race to get rid of sandbagging B's, Although it needs extended up to the very top of that climb haha 😂
That shouldn't be the case, this race wasn't my peak 20 minute effort (since as you said, there was one minute at zero), so my previous peak 20 minute effort should count unless there's a mishap in the model.
There seems to be something odd going on when Zwift calculates the results of these races. I finished in 21 minutes, with an average of 266W. But Zwift calculated my 20 minute average at 223W. That seems mathematically impossible, unless I did that one minute near 1000W.... With regard to the other riders catching up to you later in the race - I think it is a mistake to think that they have a better condition. They started slower, but kept their power steady. So they fall back at first, and catch up later. That means they have a different race buildup - not that they have a better condition. On that point - you said that you targeted an 270W average. That seems about correct to me, viewing your 255 zFTP. But I always learned that what you do over your powercurve, you have to pay back double. So your start at near 365W would mean you have to ride double the time you spend there at near 170W (or 4 times the time at 220W). That seems to be what happened to you. As you look at the better timetrail specialists, they ride an almost flat power graph over time (with some slight variations to account for up- or downhils). What works best for me is actually starting slightly under my targeted power, and trying to go slightly over in the second half. It is not the optimal strategy powerwise, but it is motivating when you start catching up to those guys that started a 365W..
Absolutely, what you do is smart. I was actually negative splitting in running often. In cycling, I still tend to overpower the start. As of your 20 min max - that's pretty confusing, too. Not sure what was happening yesterday!
Hi Adam. Another great video! I just raced this myself this morning in 18 something minutes. I am currently in C and will probably stay there for some time. By the way I sent you a request on Zwift as N. Leander. Cheers
@RoadtoA It was a lot harder than I imagined, even though it normally is😀. Really tried hard to get good momentum on the little flats and down parts, helped me a lot with my positioning it seemed
Hey I was in This race 😁 finished 12th but was the guy just in front of you at the start 👍 If you want it to promote you to Cat B you need to improve that 5min power

And you are right, Champs is a treacherous race because you are either pushing well beyond your ftp or recovering. Not much inbetween that.

@@petewatkins5823 I saw. I actually got permission from Nathan to clip that mention and I'll try to do something fun with it.😅
Good Ride Brother!!! Nice Push!!!
Thank you!
Good race. Was also treating as ftp test and to try to get promoted to B but did not as well. zFTP did go up marginally for me.

@@RoadtoA yep you're right I'm being stupid. It'll be the highest 1 minute, which would be the downhill into the climb. Then 95% of that average
