Such a cool car! In 1990 I was stationed in Japan and bought a 1987 GTS turbo Skyline from another Navy guy who was transferring and drove it for 2 years before buying a R32 GTS-T. What a time to run the mountains and coast roads of Japan!
Agreed, such a nice design compared to the later skylines in my opinion. Very 80s boxy, but still true to the skyline design. These and Cressidas feel like the Japanese g-bodies to me.
@@coddycopeland8944these always reminded me of the "big brother"(literally) of my old Silvia S12 Notch/Coupe....if mine was black and sat right next to this, you could definitely see the lineage.... should've never sold it (or my Series 2 GSL FB), it was my mom's car and she sold it to me for my first (or second, can't remember if my 65 Impala came first now 😅) car, it was originally VG30E powered (with a 5spd) but the year before I was able to drive, something happened to the engine and her BF had a shop repairing Japanese cars, so he had a VG30DETT sitting on a shelf from a 300ZX Turbo, and that's what was swapped in.... and my dumbass sold it.... R31s are clean, they are overlooked and under appreciated. ...It's funny how you can tell the difference from a person that bought someone else's finished vs someone that built up their own.
When I got stationed in Okinawa in 1996 there were still many (what I called) box styled skylines...R30's and R31's roaming the streets. I was one of the few on base that had an R32 at the time. My girlfriend Miwako loved the R31 waaay more than the R32. It was something about how boxy and comfortable it drove. It also reminded her of her school days when it was super popular still. I was hesitant but grew to love the R30's and R31's for the very reasons she did. After seeing this, I want one. I think I'll name it Miwako😊
Ive got a fairly standard aus r31 wagon, just suspension and brakes, it may be slow but it still brings me much joy to drive, 15 years strong now, heres to another many more!
All Generations of Skyline are dope. If i owned an R31 i wouldnt stop starring at it. Im pretty bad with my EK coupe but an R31 would have me glued in one spot
Wild GT3 appears! 😂 Thanks for showing us this minty, angular gem. I get wicked excited for every upload, mainly because your passion is so plainly evident and communicated so clearly to us all. Thank you. 🙏🏼
R30 and R31's don't get enough love. 4:31 Holy monkeys... That's insane! 9:09 Oh, baby. That sounds so buttery smooth... I'm so glad it found a new home because that car is just🤌 Chef's kiss. I love boxy JDM cars, too.
I love this design, 80s boxy body that anticipated the technological boom that would soon come. My favorite generation in looks, and it's amazing how many of the mods hint towards later generations while preserving the original design cues.
As an owner of an Infiniti M30 I always appreciate R31 content. So cool to see the similarities and differences, I wonder if this is still running the factory rear subframe or if it’s been changed to something with more adjustment. Awesome car all around 🤙🏼
Theres another video of this Skyline GTS-R driving around Tokyo with ShogunAutosport. At least they actually drive it instead of trying to do product placement for the seat and steering wheel they slapped on it.
R32s may be my fav but the R31 is def cool, and this may be the coolest one lol. I even like the newest model Skyline tho so idk (especially over the V35 and V36, tho they slowly got better lol)
Cool car. Just something i noticed. They are not R33 GTR brakes on the front. The calipers appear to have external bridge at the bottom of the caliper. Nissan OE Brembos run internal. Probably F40 or F50 Brembos. I miss my old R31 coupe
@@jackb6925 they’re. The best engine in a holden was the RB30. The first Buicks were shit my dad said. He had driven a few rb30 commodores and skylines and said the in-line was far better than the Buicks. And yes I know the later Buicks were decent
R31 Underrated... Unloved? Not to those true Skyline GT-R affectionados who know! C'mon Larry; get with it - you're more than just an American SAMMIT, surely?
I used to dream about living and owning a car in Japan (at least part time) but all the restrictions they put in place to own just one car is ridiculous. Like, I'd have to be an eight-digit millionaire to own my six cars there vs here.

Pulling 900 hp out of RB26 using an old Skyline coupe, when you could've had 500 hp to run on the Shuto or some 300 hp for Haruna roads... especially when you throw all that money and don't drive the car. It can have all this "mean" black color, but it's weak on its roots and even a 400 hp Civic will feel more defiying as a sleeper car. Cracked dash, door handles and roof liner. No doubt JDM needs to get back to low horsepower, cheap builds and underground fun. Thanks for showing us how a good project can be too good to be true. "More than you can afford pal." hehehehe Should've bought a Ferr/Lambo instead if he wanted easy 900 hp.

its unfortunate the r31 is so underated, specially when we have the r31 house doing amazing stuff for it

Beautiful build car. Aggressive yet nostalgic

I don't know what it is but when a rb sounds like this few other 6 cylinder engines can compete with it.
It’s an absolute beautiful beast
That is one deep sounding RB I ever heard.....stunning ❤
fucking love this car r31 coupe sedan and wagon is just one of the coolest skylines made of all time
First time seeing a r31, definitely like it a lot more than the R32. It’s just so 80’s
I hope this bodykit fenders are made of steel. Looks perfect.
100% sure they're fibreglass. At least mine is
looks like a sick 89 mustang gt from the side with the kit
Amazing build! so clean, so well done and so nostalgic ~~

Larry: " That's one way to put it."

Love it but definitely not the only widebody r31
Oh man i was soo hoping to see it in some action
Why I feel like I have never seen this car 😮
SOOOO DOOOOPEEE!!!
I like that R31 build my favourite.
Edited comment to add a "u"? Lol
The car that inspired the design for the Fox body mustang. This car is wayyy better looking in my opinion though.
Listening to people who supposedly know their stuff getting confused between R31 and DR30 never fails to illuminate.

Wow! One of the Skylines I love before the GTRs came about. Think I better search for one which maybe rotting in my brother-in-law's car yard!
Larry just trying to get a handle on the basics of the car and old mate can't stop yelling all the upgrades. lol
