This is probably Led Zeppelin's greatest song. People say Kashmir and Whole Lotta Love and, of course, Stairway To Heaven, but this tune is nigh perfection.
This is my favorite Zeppelin song and it makes me sad that most people have never even heard of it. This song is the definition of epic. The sound in this song takes you on a journey and the lyrics are so reflective. Another thing that makes this great is that there are multiple ways to interpret what it means. All these things give the song such a pure Zeppelin vibe.
That's why I've been watching them for over a year. I dropped off on so many reaction channels because they started seeming phoney but that's never been the case with Brad and Lex.
The story I've heard is that there was a woman who said to Plant it's me or your music. The decision is evident, but here, Robert is reminiscing about her, ten years gone
You said it took you on a journey. Zeppelin has a number of songs that can do that. This is another one of those songs that you put your headphones on, close your eyes and let the song take you to another plain of existence
Can't go wrong on Led Zeppelin...looking at the long list of songs from them you guys already did makes me believe you already came to that conclusion😀
This has always been up in my top 5 Led Zeppelin songs since I first heard it at 12, it’s towards the end of the 4th side of the Double LP “Physical Graffiti” (My favorite Led Zep release) which is absolutely loaded with great songs, but then this one caught me off guard towards the end and always really moved me with its dreamy lingering guitar and short bursts of energy. This is definitely one of those refreshing Led Zep “deep tracks” that was never played in heavy rotation like their many “hits” that would always get radio airplay. Rounding out my Top 5 Led Zep, in no particular order would also include: “Achillies Last Stand”, “In My Time of Dying”, “Out On The Tiles”, and “How Many More Times?”
Man I seen this and brought tears to my eyes! Because this was my big brothers Tommmy favorite Zep song and my brother has been in Heaven for 10 years this year and it seems like it was just yesterday! RIP Big Brother! I love ya Tom! This song isnt the jamming song that some Zep fans are used too but its not all about how loud the music is , its the words in the song that make the song just as much as the music! Thanks. Keep up the Good Work guys!
This is favorite zeppelin song fpr sure. I wish people strayed from the popular radio hits and listened to the whole albums. 9 times out 10 the best songs have never been radio played
My favorite Zep song!!! The transitions are phenomenal.Sheer brilliance. The vocals are outstanding. Thanks guys. I think I will rinse and repeat A couple times.
This is a great song, makes me think of people that are no longer in my life. I believe it was about a breakup which makes sense why it makes me feel this way. Very few people are in your life for the long haul. Most are important for a brief period and after a while, they fade away but the memories remain.
Hee name was Amy. I saved myself by getting clean. She died from our addiction. 35 years have passed and she still haunts dreams. Her smell. Her hair. Her laughter. We listened to this song. I should have at least tried to take her with me when I left. I am sorry. I miss you
Nothing like this song for bringing up memories of old loves, and that's on top of it being it a "lost in the sauce" composition. And, yeah, Physical Graffiti is a stand-out album among a catalog of LZ stand-out albums.
Perfection. Absolutely my all time favorite song by them. The solo, the middle of the song, I can't even describe how much I love it and how great Jimmy Page is. And Robert Plant's vocals are just so lovely. I'm so glad you did this song. It's highly underrated
This is a beautiful song even for casual listening, but for musicians (especially guitarists) with even rudimentary knowledge of arrangement and composition, it’s a masterpiece. One of many on this album alone.
This what Plant said: Let me tell you a little story behind the song "Ten Years Gone" on our new album. I was working my ass off before joining Zeppelin. A lady I really dearly loved said, "Right. It's me or your fans." Not that I had fans, but I said, "I can't stop, I've got to keep going." She's quite content these days, I imagine. She's got a washing machine that works by itself and a little sports car. We wouldn't have anything to say anymore. I could probably relate to her, but she couldn't relate to me. I'd be smiling too much. Ten years gone, I'm afraid. Anyway, there's a gamble for you. My comment: 10 years before this song was written Plant was only 16.
Context. In those days, most people didn't finish high school.By 16,most were working full time.In those days, you could fool the military and join at 16 as many people did.In countries where the drinking age is 18,in those days they'd serve a 16 year old. Many were considered emancipated at 16.Many people got married, and or had kids by 16.So while it may seem a bit weird or far fetched by the standards of 2022,it wouldn't have been in the late 1950's or early 1960's
@@pastorofmuppets22 We are talking about the 1960s, not the 1860s. In the 1960s to marry in the UK under 21 required the parental consent. 16 was the minimum age with consent which was also the age of consent. Plant and Maureen were 20 when they married. Maureen, a nurse, supported him financially before Zeppelin but he did work for her father at one stage under pressure to earn money. The woman said to be Plant's girlfriend before Maureen was Maureen's little sister. She was 12 in 1964 when the song was written.
@@davidcarter4247 In the 1960's everything I said happened, happened.People did leave school early to work.People did get married young.People did get in the military at 16.Idk why you brought up the 1860's,as if anything I said wasn't true?I was alive at the time,so I believe what I saw over what you tell me
I've been hoping for ages that you'd get round to reacting to this song and I'm delighted to see that you have, and that you enjoyed it! It's one of my absolute favourite Zeppelin songs as I love all the different facets it has. Brilliant!
the best zeppelin song...when the chorus comes in for the final time page combines all the layers that he kept adding each time the chorus happens to make one final wall of guitar sound...one of his crowning achievements on the guitar and in his production work...
This is one of my go-to songs when I'm messing around on guitar. The intro is super easy but sounds amazing. Makes people think you're better than you are.
Jimmy Page had originally intended the song to be an instrumental piece; he recorded around 14 guitar tracks to overdub the harmony section.[5] Robert Plant later added lyrics, which are dedicated to an old girlfriend who, ten years earlier, had made him choose either her or his music. Plant explained this in an interview in 1975.
Yeah I played this song a LOT in college...and thank-you for delving into the lyrics. It has a slow rocking reflection mood to it... Relationships. How far we've come; so far to go.... and the crystal ball isn't fond of guarantees... Zepp at their finest... All band members so good. Robert Plant great lyricist...
I feel like Lex is experiencing what I did as a teenager. Discovering the magic of Led Zeppelin and how they would send you on a journey. Unfortunately John Bonham died when I was 16 (1980) and they decided to part rather than find a different drummer. Some of Robert Plants music was good, but never close to the mysterious feel of Led Zeppelin.
I'm jealous and joyous at the same time watching her enjoy her magical journey. You can't help but smile at both of their reactions. She oozes everything that's great about music and the new discoveries.
It was like they were on a different planet. I remember when Kasmir first came out, and people were bummed that it wasn't "otherworldly". But if you go back and listen to Kasmir now, it is otherworldy in different ways than the early stuff. It's freaking genius and people were ragging about it...lol.
You and I are the same age - I still remember the day Bonzo died very well I had tickets to their upcoming show. There was no decision - they could not go on without John Bonham - actually they could have never gone on as a band without any of them - each was so integral to their sound
John's death was too much for Robert , having lost his son Karac 3 years earlier & only John was there for his time of grieving Is why Led Zeppelin couldn't continue. All felt that
I could not wait till y'all checked this jewel of a tune out! For me, this is the most pleasingly mellow emotional tune that ever came out of the 70's... Period! Nice reaction guys, as usual.
Oh yes! This is one of my favorites from Led Zeppelin. Lex you are so perceptive. I love hearing what you both think of a song. You have different takes. I'm so glad you guys are listening to more Led Zeppelin.
Physical Graffiti is one of the greatest albums of all time
Not one of...THE
@@bakerman10 it's certainly right up there with The Wall and The White Album.
@@bakerman10 I certainly concur.
Yes it is!
I remember ditching school and buying it the day it came out
This is probably Led Zeppelin's greatest song. People say Kashmir and Whole Lotta Love and, of course, Stairway To Heaven, but this tune is nigh perfection.
Good call John. This is number one on my list.
I can never decide my favourite, it depends on my mood …..
It is perfection😊
Jimmy's layered guitars. This song really showcases his versatility.
Dyer myker is
This is one of the great Zeppelin songs. The guitar work is just superb. The solo in this song does it for me every time.
In the mixolydian flat 6th mode. Or commonly referred to as the Tens Years Gone scale. Remarkable
I'm with you, my all time favorite Zep song...and there are lots of great ones
It definitely gives the song a melancholy and reflective feel.
The entire album is amazing
The overdubs on the end of the song are beautiful.
Back when rock took its time.
One of their best. That record has so many great songs.
Physical Graffiti is the definition of “Masterpiece”
Love Lex's reactions ...she's so into it, and it's genuine.
She soaks music in and allows herself to drift with it.
That's why I've been watching them for over a year. I dropped off on so many reaction channels because they started seeming phoney but that's never been the case with Brad and Lex.
It would be nice watching Lex's reaction when she's getting into it even without music.
AND so were the band
This song has such a reflective mood to it... it's perfection... as I get older it ages like fine wine, unlike me :-)
Ain't that the truth?
You got that right! Still, we rock on.
Yeah well it'll be over soon enough. You may not be good as you once was but be as good once as you ever was.
the live stuff is also amazing
Lifelong Zeppelin fan. This is my very favorite song of theirs. Such a high quality song....and done so masterfully.
The story I've heard is that there was a woman who said to Plant it's me or your music. The decision is evident, but here, Robert is reminiscing about her, ten years gone
This song makes me nostalgic about memories I don't have
Lmao awesome comment.
Yes indeed
For me it would be memories I wish I had.
I’ve forgotten those memories too. I’m sure they were great.
Hey...if you remember the 70's you weren't there!!
You said it took you on a journey. Zeppelin has a number of songs that can do that. This is another one of those songs that you put your headphones on, close your eyes and let the song take you to another plain of existence
Man hearing this high on thc, I would get goosebumps and literally feel myself lifting up in the air. Something about this song that's just magical
One of the coolest Chord progressions ever written imo
Physical Graffiti is such an awesome album! So many epic and magnificent songs! You will never hear another rock group like this ever again.
Best lz album ever....

This is why I love this channel. Nobody else is playing this wonderful, phenomenal song.
One of their best songs for sure....just beautiful
That first solo is Jimmy’s best. Nothing beats something that touches one emotionally. You can feel the pain in it. He just conveyed it flawlessly.
This entire album is absolutely epic! A masterpiece.
Great deep cut by Zep.. Love this song so much.
Simply a majestic track. One of their best.
Plant’s voice is so perfect on this masterpiece.
The phrasing is spectacular.
Still raspy, from the throat operation he had the year before. In a good way.
Time doesn't exist when you're listening to Led Zeppelin.
This is my absolute favorite Zeppelin song ♥️🎸🎼♥️
I concur
Best zeppelin album absolutely 10/10
You’re right girl! He rarely ends a phrase without going up in pitch. Good catch! I never realized that and I’m 70.
My favorite Zeppelin song. The bass is so awesome!
One of Page's masterpieces, and he has more than most...just brilliant
Reminds me of an someone I used to love and still do in a certain way

Endless library of music for the heart and soul

Jimmy Page's guitar work is sublime. Frankly, if I never hear "Stairway to Heaven" again, that will be too soon. But I never tire of this one.
My favorite song from the best rock album of all time.
My favorite Zep song!!! The transitions are phenomenal.Sheer brilliance. The vocals are outstanding. Thanks guys. I think I will rinse and repeat A couple times.
I've never heard one Led Zeppelin song I would call heavy metal, Communication Breakdown comes the closest.
Led Zeppelin to me has always been a fortress, a castle, a garrison of that which needs to be housed in a place for all which is precious.
One of my favorite Zep tracks.

They have so many “EPIC” songs
I grew up in the early 70’s with Zeppelin providing the soundtrack to my high school years. This is my favourite LZ tune.
One of my all time favorite Led Zeppelin tracks, from my favorite Led Zeppelin album.
They will always be my favorite band
From Zep's Magnum Opus, their outstanding 1975 double LP, "Physical Graffitti"....not a bad song on the whole album.🙂🙂
It's a unique Rock song with real lyrics that blends the light and heavy sounds. It makes you feel something every time. Great guitar.
That is one Zeppelin's best songs of all time, maybe THE best, in my opinion. Thanks, cats.
This song put tears in my eyes everytime I heard
Thanks again for your attention to detail. Childhood grooves.
One of my all time favorite Led Zeppelin songs!
This is THE song ever written. There's one damned song, and there's one damned ring to rule them all

10 years gone, and how it used to be...boy can I relate. Thanks for playing the greatest band ever.
👍❤🤙
Sometimes a song will cut through a consciousness of a gathering and enlighten a mood...this is one of those many LZ songs that do!
Such a beautiful song. I’ve listened to this song most of my life and never noticed the observation lex made about the end of each line. So cool
I think one of their greatest songs.
