I found the entrance wound, and in palpating the area I could feel the bullet about 2 inches away from the entrance. It was trapped between the scalp and the skull! When he brought the derringer up to his head in a suicide attempt, it was at an angle and glanced off the skull, just like the helmet shot.

@@jdsguam Eh, depends on the situation, and where on the head it hit really. By situation I also include training. Say, a shoot out, where someone in the back can fairly easily move up, drag you out, and take your place, absolutely. There would be no reason to "stay in" for that situation. On the other hand, if there is no falling back, you would probably still be able to pull a trigger and point in the general right direction, after a 9mm. Tempered glass likes to shatter into a million pieces when it takes any damage. I wouldn't call it a realistic analog for a skull. But it makes the point anyways. The helmet stops the bullet, but you're still gettin' smacked around like nobody's business inside it.
It doesn't require an MD. No, this isn't a representation of a skull. Living bone is a lot more flexible than people think it is. It doesn't shatter as soon as it starts to deform at all. Breaking the glass could happen with a movement of only 1mm inward; a skull would just flex or compress that far. Also, as the skull deforms it absorbs more and more energy through the constant resistance. The force breaking the glass applies near instantaneously and because the glass isn't flexing at all it's being concentrated in a much smaller area. @taofledermaus man, I just saw Danny's last video. I have health issues too, mine are manageable tho n I woke up in pain n was taking my pain meds when his video popped up. When he said, "donate blood" I cried. When he said, "see ya on the other side." I smiled. I was hospitalised for 996 days straight and left with an illiostomy bag. My wife came home with a kitty one day and... idk... I started carrying him outside when I tried walking up the driveway. Then walked up the street. Now we walk around the block every day. I trained him to walk beside me with a harness. I see people walking their dogs and here I am, a white guy with a shaved head and tattoos walking my kitty on a harness. I live in Japan and they are very kind to me but they let me know I am a foreigner. Tattoos are still taboo. Having a kitty and smiling at the old ladies has helped me make many friends. They knew I was hospitalised and saw me get better, slowly. I live a great life and sympathise and empathise for people like Danny. NGL his video funked me up first thing in the morning but I was not going to turn it off. My IRL name is David. I love your videos. Here in Japan, guns are highly restricted. A civilian may get a shotgun for hunting but it has to be a certain way. So watching your videos, I ponder the idea if I can get a shotgun in the future. If you EVER get the chance to come here, you will love it. It is a cool country. Moving here was the best decision I ever made.

I just watched this on patreon but it was so good, I had to watch it again!
thanks Bill!!
That 44 mag was so impressive! So fast that it hit the helmet before the recoil even initiated! 😮
Pretty damn good helmet considering... Bravo
Great job guys. Love watching you put such products to the test.... Cant wait to see what comes next. Thanks 👍
When Danny shot the jug with red liquid in it, I am pretty sure I said "Holy Shite!"
Jeff unbelievable filming with this one. And great 👍 shooting Danny. I dont really know them other two 🤔 but nice shots also boys.
Normally I don't get these until the next day
We really dont care tbh

Reminds me of that song "Broken glass everywhere junkies in the alley pissing and they just don't care"...
Grand Master Flash. "The Message" Maybe the best rap song ever recorded.
Great video, would love to see a comparison to an old and new steel helmet.
I feel like this test was one of the best you guy's have done to date. I hope those who have never seen what actually happens to ballistic protection have had a few of the misconceptions debunked. I also hope that it showes that it may save you life, but that doesn't mean that it will do so without a person sustaining damage or injury. Great demonstration guys. Love all of your content.
Its one of those "better then nothing" moments. I agree, great demonstration.
Correct. Its just a big confidence boost. Like Stallone's trucker hat in over the top.
Might want to ask the soldiers who were lucky to survive something like this. They end up with TBI most say it feels like an aluminum ball bat to the head
That was the exact analogy I was going to suggest. They've changed the impact from a penetrating point to something like being hit with a baseball bat.
I like it when the red water comes out, old reference but still enjoy seeing it especially in slow motion. Thanks for the video Jeff and company ❤️
Good to see Danny back 👍
The most fair and impartial video I've ever seen.
OG looks much younger with hair on his head.
Danny! Great to see you again!
Great test. Love your videos 😎🤙🏼
Thank you Horst!
cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolll
Nick seems to be a pretty dope guy. Bring him by more often.
He moved away unfortunately (like so many other guest shooters)

Thank you for the informative content gentlemen!
This is the hard hitting science i subscribe for.
Great video Jeff glad to see Danny out there y'all take care out there and be safe as OG would say.👍😂😂😂🍻🍺
PAUSED: Danny that 44 is the prettiest gun I have ever seen. UNPAUSE
Jerrys Solo Adventures
Thanks Jerry 👍🏻. 🇺🇸😎
The intro part with the talking head loved that
Talk about a massive headache.
I’ve got a 3a helmet. Very educational. If I see a goblin with a wheel gun or shotgun I’ll try to take any hit on my level 4 chest plate. Or get him before he gets me.
Good ol case of "The bullet may stop but so will you."
Leave it to the slug scientist to know which slug would do the job.
Danny doesn't miss or drop his ammo in the sand.
at least on camera huh? lol
@@taofledermaus No, no no, don't shatter the dream, Danny is a ballistic god!
You had me at "definitely probably". 0:39
Thanks for the video brothers ! ☺♥
thank YOU!
Excellent video! I especially appreciated the thecnical summary at the end. Awesome informational content, and with the added entertaining humor in between.🤣👌🏼🤙🏻
'If it cracks the glass it will definitely probably crack your skull'.... Definitely probably huh... Glad to see you guys are using scientific terms here
heck yeah
Just like injun-nuity
Well that's always the case with Americans. They use very explicit words that we all understand to measure things, like body parts, stadium length, cans and other very scientific words.
The new season of Taofledermaus had me concerned UNTIL Danny showed up! :))
Johnny Appleseed
😁👍🏻. 🇺🇸😎
Very interesting results from close range, would love to see this shot from a greater distance.
It would be about the same but further
@@taofledermaus Fluff, but you can only do what you can within the constraints of your budget/time ;I understand.
Watching this video on August 21-2022 and Danny popping up really got me😢 the presence and personality we lost is sad. I never even met him in person and I still feel something seeing him in action! Miss ya man
Nick the ‘former’ Marine....😊
Jeff to random people at the supermarket: you wanna see my glass head collection?
A word to manufacturers: If you state your product is proof against shotgun slugs, and then give that product to the guys at Taofledermaus to test, then state clearly what kind of slug. Why? Because Taofledermaus don't do 'Obvious', and will fire all kinds of batshit crazy stuff at your product. Damn right, too.
😂🤣😂🤣😂👍
@@OGsDangerShow - I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy!
Ah, a nice classic feel with the older cameras on the slomo and Nick the marine as the shooter.
Maybe try those NIJ IIIA-rated helmet from aliexpress too?
Those "Atomic Defense" helmets suspiciously look like the "Militech" helmets from Aliexpress. I wonder if it's not the same helmet, but rebranded.
dude the slowmo is super nice now! sideshot of the bullet flying and all. i like it!
Welp, looks like Atomic Defense is off the list! I ain't buying anything from them - if they're claiming protection against 12 ga. slugs, I want nothing to do with them. This is the best review for a helmet I've seen, ya actually gotta shoot the dang armor to test it folks!
To be honest, I don't know if ANY helmet would do better!
@@taofledermaus My uncle's helmet took an AK round in a house in Iraq, similar design, different manufacturer. I have a feeling that helmet was a heck of a lot better than the one y'all tested! Still, you're right, it's a helmet, you shouldn't expect it to stop rifle calibre rounds regardless of design and manufacturing quality. A helmet armored enough to stop such rounds would probably weigh too much for you to really move your head!
@@taofledermaus Then you should get a military quality helmet to check. Not just if the slug penetrates but also how far the real ones deform so we get an idea of the actual protection the varying helmets offer.
$1,000 MSRP on sale for $499 means its really priced at $499 and you can probably find it for less.
When Danny fired that slug, I thought the video switched over to a Quentin Tarantino movie.
Severe concussion and brain matter explosion is a definite problem! The high speed video was AWESOME!
