Sadly 3 of the main actors in this movie met with a tragic ending James Dean - died in a car crash Natalie wood- drowned under mysterious circumstances Sal mineo - murdered in a mugging incident
He was so young when he passed away ;( I remember watching Giant first and being star struck by his amazing performance as Jett Rink. After seeing his other two performances he became my favorite actor.
Shu 04 He stole Giant even though he’s not the main character! He stole the film! He made Rock Hudsons acting look wooden by comparison! A genius Actor!
I thought that too that they both looked way too old. But I looked it up and Natalie Wood was actually 17 when this movie was filmed. Guess she looks old cause how she’s dressed. James Dean looks 30
Wow! This doesn't look like a film released in 1955, based on some of the camera shots. It looks like it was made much later, after the 50's. There are films like this. For example, 2001: A Space Odyssey does not look like a film released in the 60's. More like mid-late 70's. I wonder what kind of techniques the filmmakers used to make the film look as if it was ahead of it's time?
She doesn't get enough of the attention for this flick. She's effin excellent in this movie. And she's a teenager playing a teenager. Dean gets all the play but Natalie, in my opinion, steals it. There's ZERO overplaying or emoting with her in this movie. Completely natural performance. I had a huge crush on her when I first viewed this movie (I was 13). Now as an adult I see how great she was.😘
In the same year as this film, James Dean died at such a young age. He may have had more opportunities to travel the world and make more incredible films. I'm overjoyed that so many people remember him and that he still continues to inspire and influence a new generation of actors.
I can't believe she was 17 here, she easily looks a decade older. It blows my mind that people from era always looked so much older than they were but in a good way. These days if someone looks older than what they are it's usually not a good sign.
RIP James Dean (February 8, 1931 - September 30, 1955), aged 24 And RIP Natalie Wood (July 20, 1938 - November 29, 1981), aged 43 You both will always be remembered as legends.
Dennis Hopper at 1:42 rear of car smoking in red jacket. His first Hollywood feature film with only a line or two in what would become a wild, productive, controversial long career as actor, director, art collector and wild man. He would appear with Dean again in "Giant".
James Dean and Natalie Wood starred in this movie about troubled youth. Both came to a bad end. Dean died in a car wreck in 1955, and Natalie drowned in 1981. Supporting actor Sal Mineo was stabbed to death by a robber. There is something called "The Curse of James Dean's Porsche." Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles is a tourist attraction with a view of the Hollywood Sign. In the movie, juniors and seniors attend a planetarium show. There is a lecture about the constellations.
He was immortalized on film. Too bad he didn’t get to continue with his incredible career and live out his life fully. He’d be around 80 by now. RIP James Dean God, he’s been gone for over 50 years now like another legendary talent Buddy Holly. Those two I Lament the most because they were Cultural Forces. Incredibly talented and I wish they both lived to see what they would have done further! 👌🏻🎸💥🎸
Youth culture was just starting to take off back then, still you'd mostly dress like your parents. Today that youth culture has been extended to people even in their late 20s.
You're absolutely correct. "I'm glad they let you out"- sounds like Natalie Wood telling Corey Allen that she is happy he was released from a police holding on account of a "Chickie Run" on a previous night, to which he responds: "No, nobody Chicken", or no one leaped out too late, or was physically hurt escaping his stolen car. "You're lucky he lived"- "Judy" says with legitimate fear about his competitor, to which "Buzz" remarks reassuringly: "They always live!" in order to comfort her. Not true. He dies that very night in yet another match arranged for he and "Jim Stark". Not too many folks hear this conversation. You are an attentive listener!
Great writing .. 0:50 ... "you wanna carry my books?" .. "I got my car, you wanna go with me?" ... they're making fun of commercials, pushing the world away which seeks to program them... turn them into robots... but then, a moment later, "I go with the kids", she says, pushing him away... If they discover you're an adult, or a child, so gotta go with the kids .. yet she leaves him with Hope - "I bet you're a real yo-yo" (come back to me? For I must go, with the kids).
Natalie Wood, 5' 2" of under, in flat shoes... What height James Dean, with heels? From this scene, he is no more than four inches taller, at most. But how can you judge talent by size.
Natalie Wood and James Dean. Two gorgeous actors who died way too young. May they both rest in peace

There was a lot of nostalgia during the 80s so a lot of Hollywood movies were set set in the 50s and 60s

james: i love you too.
A very positive, optimistic fellow - that James.

Looking at that clip of film with Natalie Wood she is my idea of THE perfect girl.
This scene captures the youth of teenagers perfectly (:
Yes, he was the catalyst the youth were identifying after the war. A legend!
Chris Saloman teenagers? Lol
Erik Ruiz when he died. When he made this film he was 20 or 21 still a boy
This film came out the year he died.

Could be a remastered version.
They used cinemascope and warnercolor which were relatively new and expensive technologies
Also FILM retains so much information and detail. So it's much "easier" to remaster and improve with modern tools.
