      Thank you, Amy. We have been wanting to do this hike for several years. The wildflowers are just now starting to pop up in the high country, another week and it'll look like the 4th of July all over again in those meadows!

      I need to let y’all know that it is because of watching your channel that my husband and I chose to do segment 8 of the CT last week!!
      It was our very first overnight hike And our first backpacking trip ever! We had been planning and researching for months. We had watched Dixie and then found your channel. I LOVeD how y’all split it up into segments!! It was sooo helpful for us beginners!! Anyway, we chose segment 8 because of all that we could see and do! And it did not disappoint!! My husband is 50 and a distance runner so it wasn’t too bad for him, even though we r from Indiana. I will be 50 this week and not as active. But we have been doing day hikes for about 2 months every weekend around here and I had been walking about 3-4 days a week also!! I struggled with elevation but we did the segment in 2.5 days!! It was amazing and we r soooo hooked!! We will be back to do more segments for sure. Whenever we can!! Keep your great videos coming. Love them all!! Thank you again!!!!!!

      Wow, thank you for the incredible reply and sharing your own experience with us, so amazing. Seg 8 is one of our all time favorite sections of the CT, what a great 1st time outing for you guys, it is everything Colorado is in one segment. 50 is just a number, keep moving, keep experiencing and enjoy life...at any age 😎
      Let us know if you come back out, we'd love to hear more about your CT adventures, as well as any others you take. -MAD

    It’s a tough and beautiful hike and Rogers Peak Lake is one of my favorite destinations. Definitely worth the effort, especially when the upper meadows are covered in wildflowers. The small lake is quieter than the very picturesque Rogers Peak Lake. Just a gorgeous area to visit. Typical Indian Peaks Wilderness.

      Agreed, tough hike, but rewarding! We loved camping at the smaller lake just below Rogers Peak Lake where the wildflowers are just starting to pop up.

    What month and day did you do this backpacking trip? I see the date you published your adventure. Just planning this years trips and want to get out as soon as possible. You and your wife do amazing and beautiful videos.

      Thank you, Vickie. We went in July and always try to avoid weekends, so it was probably the Wednesday or Thursday before posting the video. Generally speaking, most of our backpacking trips near or above treeline in Colorado are after July 4th. The snowpack in 2021 was not all that great, so we did not encounter any, though it was muddy in a few places, the trail was very manageable. Heart Lake and Rogers Peak Lake is a great overnight trip, add in another night and explore more of the area!

    How long did it take? Did you happen to see elk?

    • @MADHippiesLife
      @MADHippiesLife  Год назад

      We did this as an overnight backpacking trip and stayed at the unnamed lake just below Rogers Peak Lake, better camping there. The hike up is only a few hours, nothing over the top.

    • @MADHippiesLife
      @MADHippiesLife  Год назад

      No Elk on this outing, plenty of deer and other critters though. We wouldn't rule out a moose or two in this area either, the population is on the increase.

    Did you need a permit to overnight here? If you did, where did you go to get it?

    • @MADHippiesLife
      @MADHippiesLife  3 года назад +1

      No "fee" permits are required for backcountry camping in the James Peak Wilderness. There are, however, self issue permits at some trailheads. We entered from the East Portal (Moffat Tunnel) trailhead near Rollinsville and did fill out a self issue permit. There have been times that these types of self issue permit boxes located at trailheads are found empty, we either take a picture of the box empty with our phone or use a piece of paper we have on us stating entry and exit dates, destination and number of people in our party. We also keep a pencil or pen on us as these types of boxes are not always reliable for writing utensils. Enjoy your hike, Heart Lake and Rogers Peak Lake are a great destination!

      @@adventurebound7952 Yes. We recommend camping around Rogers Peak Lake or the small unnamed lake just before it where we camped. There are plenty of spots in this area.
