As a follow up my inserts were completely destroyed! Thanks to your video, I was able to find out what the issue was and get better than factory replacements from Cantrell which will be here soon. Very, very easy job to do on my 996 C4s and I hope others will take the time to inspect theirs trying to figure out a 'mysterious noise' Thanks again!
Synthetic grease or Prothane bushing grease Lubrication makes it easier to install the insert in the carrier and on the outside to reinstall in the car without reacting with the hoses.
Do the RSS mounts next, there super simple to install and it will blow your mind the difference. It literally is unbelievable how much of a difference tight engine and trans mounts make.
Forgive my ignorance. RSS mounts? I am going to be replacing the trans mounts in my manual and I hope the same basic principals apply but I’m not quite sure what the RSS mounts are? TIA. Thanks for the video.
No worries Gary, RSS is the acronym for a Southern California company that manufacturers one of the best semi solid engine miunt upgrades. Web search RSS engine mounts and you should be able to find many threads about them. Best of luck with your project
Do the engine mounts. Read somevother people's response to RSS or other semi solidcengine mounts. Those and the trans mount are an almost unbelievable upgrade. Very satisfying. PS: make sure you match mount types as far as durometer otherwise you could crack an engine or trans case.
Great job on the video, thanks for posting. I've been thinking about doing this upgrade also been considering making and offering my own bushings... We'll see about that.
Which 996 was this on? A Carrera or GT/Turbo? Also was it a Manual or Tiptronic? I believe the GT/Turbo models have that removable carrier but the Carrera models dont.
I apologize for the late response I didn’t have notifications turned on for this video. This was done on a 996.2 Carrera with Tiptronic. All 996.2 have the removable type. To the best of my knowledge anything before a 996.2 manual or tip doesn’t have the removable carrier mount. But I’m sure Cantrell knows for certain.
Extremely helpful
Just did this on my 997turbo, they were shot. I’m also doing the 964RS mounts at the same time

The inserts weren't at all difficult to install and I can see some opting to go with a lubricant. In this case it really wasn't necessary.
Five star DIY !
Great video. Ordered my Cantrell mounts after watching this. Thanks for all the detail.

@@ProjectsMB I just did the Wevo mounts. Replaced my old worn out OEMs. It was probably one of the easiest jobs on the GT3 I have done.

Great video for the DIY person like myself. Mine are due on my 03' C4s and this will really help in doing the job and doing the job right. Thank you!
THANK YOU for the highly detailed video! I’ll be doing the same job very soon on my car.

Excellent DIY.
Is there a noticible increase in cabin Noise, vibration and general harshness? Thanks
No. There is no increase in NVH. This along with engine mounts are two of the best 911 upgrades I've ever done
Good job..great tutorial
