Walking Los Angeles : Little Tokyo

- Опубликовано: 17 июл 2021
- I walk through Little Tokyo in Downtown Los Angeles. The highlight of the area is the Japanese Village Plaza, which features paper lanterns, Japanese architecture, and numerous restaurants, anime stores, souvenir shops, and a rock garden. This neighborhood is only one of three official Japan towns in the United States, the other two also located in California.

I love the opening with that strange guy "Singing!"
He flew in from Times Square! 😸
@@larrycj4382 Nope, Don't think so😂😂
He's quite good.
@@rebekahcuriel-alessi2239 Oh yeah...ha ha ha!!! :)
The intro was amazing!! That song he was singing must of been a great song!😂😂😂
Omg the guy at the beginning 😂

best intro to downtown Los Angeles you could've filmed, 10/10
Thanks Action Kid for another educational walk thru Little Tokyo.
It was a very informative walk. Never knew there was something like this in LA before
Wow the crazies are out. Lol in the beginning
Dude's just vibin out there!
That's nothing. If you walk around downtown you will be a thousand just like him
Nothing like a little live entertainment to get you going !
That was some loud powerful singing without a mic lol❗️🗣🎤 🎶🤣
Wasn't it though 😆
Little Tokyo is such a happy bright spot near one of the most depressing area in L... all of US.
You don’t like Merica ?
I like your videos. They remind me to pay attention to the details around me.
Man little tokyo is awesome first time i went was back in 2019 great experience looking forward going back this year
I first discovered Little Tokyo 30 years ago on one of my first trips to LA. Back then Little Tokyo was mainly Asian people but over the years the place has gentrified and commercialized and now a lot of young white hipsters go there - but my favorite place to eat there is Suehiro cafe on 1st street, they have the best udon and teriyaki chicken!
I could have imagined what it was like back then, totally different.
Yes, blame white hipsters for ruining everything. The story is getting old.
A great travelling video. Thanks once again for this wonderful film exploring new places and meeting amazing things.
I loved this video. Thank you so much! Little Tokyo has such a great vibe. Beautiful!
What an intro......lol! Thanks for all the great footage from LA. Such a difference from NYC! I have never been to California so it was great to see it through your eyes. Very sad to see all the homeless living on the street like that. Enjoy your trip and stay safe, Ak.
Great Video !!! Thanks Again, ActionKid
Yep!!!! I love and hang out in our San Francisco Japantown!!! 🍵
And we have a Miyako hotel there too. I've stayed in it: luxxxuuurrrious!!!!🛀
Love the sushi boat restaurants!
Got to meet up with the kid
@@Reprodestruxion 😊
The intro 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Beautiful little Japanese town, thanks for your vdo.Nice walks AK!👍
Would love to spend a day there shopping & eating next time I am in LA!
@HahThatsWhatSheSaid Tour - yes. Shopping - more than an hour! And stop for coffee & a snack. Of course sushi later! 😸I would plan a half day around lunch.
@HahThatsWhatSheSaid Am in NYC, where we do not have a Little Tokyo. 😢
You should check out Sushi Gen for dinner! A very authentic dining experience and the sashimi is so fresh!
That’s an interesting intro😊
😂
Little Tokyo is a fine little area with a lot of culture and heart. Some of The shops look like the homes you find in Tokyo and its festive heart is for all to see. As for the homeless, it’s a problem that has many different dimensions to solve. The only thing we can do is the best we can to help those in need. Thanks for another video AK and thanks for being the hardest working man on RUclips. You’re spoiling us with all that content. Take it easy, stay safe and enjoy your weekend.
P.s That guy in the beginning was having the time of his life.
¿?¿¿¿?¿¿

Thanks for the walk. Very interesting facts and the area is great. Hope you are taking the time to have some fun yourself. Take care Kenneth.
Such an artistic and picturesque spot!!!Very cool!!!
Wow!Little Tokyo looks blast !!!
This could be an episode of NHK's Somewhere Street....
That's what I have always been saying bout all these walking videos, they remind me of Somewhere street, the only difference is, these guys don't talk to the locals haha
:15 Only if he knew, he was on RUclips he might have finished singing and dancing. I guess we will never know!😄🎶 I really enjoyed the walk in Little Tokyo, very nice, thank you!
There is also a very nice and serene Japanese style Botanical garden located at the rear of the Plaza. Nice Bonsai trees are there.
Good to know!
Years ago Anime Jungle used to have just one little shop down there at the bottom of Little Tokyo Mall, but it looks like now the entire lower level is Anime Jungle! Wow! Those guys really got on the ground floor of the Anime explosion in America!
Love your videos.
Interesting. 👍🏻
love the new rock intro AK
My favorite place in Los Angeles! Cool to see it through your lens!
Good tour 😀
Best intro ever 😁😁😁.. the rock singer 🤣
That intro is the sibling to NYC 😂 🗽>🌴
I'm so glad you are showing all of the sides to LA. Truly remarkable!
Right!😁
Omg! I enjoyed your walk around Little Tokyo sooo much. I love the lanterns. Reminds me of Mott St. back here. I saw that Sanrio store and I would have loved to go in there. We love Hello Kitty over here so much.
To see all those homeless people makes me sad. It's so prevalent out there. I wish there was a solution. But it's not so easy.
Boy, if that fella in the beginning of this video knew he was on, I bet he would have sang louder.😂
Thankyou for another awsome walk around. You are the best AK!
That’s an interesting intro
HOW DID YOU MISS WELLER COURT??? there’s a amazing hallway with lights in it. looks amazing at night
@It's 1984: The Fact Checkers are here! ? idk what that is either. he missed weller court so i said how did you miss it lmfao
Also, there is the Space Shuttle Challenger Memorial just outside of the Weller Court. Definitely a must see.
Did you had the chance to also see the rainbow tunnel? that is right next to the Doubletree hotel, and the Matcha tea shop is nearby as well.
Have a great enjoy walking.👍 Little Toyko
The beginning of The video had me rolling. And here I thought only us New Yorkers were crazy. 😂😂. P.S..I did not know Skid row was 50 blocks long?! So sad, I really hope they could do something about the homeless pandemic that's Going on as well.
I hope the homeless problem can be solved soon, it’s not an easy solution
@@ActionKid Me too. Yes, it isn't, unfortunately.
Yes skid row is around 50 blocks. Thousands of people live in tents on the sidewalk. There isn't anything in NYC or anywhere else in America like it.
@@SA-hz1rs Austin isn't as bad as LA. There are mini skid rows all over LA. Skid Row in LA has over 8,000 people in tents on the sidewalk. 50,000 in tents in LA County.
@@SA-hz1rs Maybe per capita but not in actual numbers. That's what counts. Plus it's not just the city of LA. It's all over the state. It's all bad.
I wish Little Tokyo had at least 1 Japanese vending machine.
🧐🤔💡 business idea
Note the cold war era air raid siren still there.
There are some US cities that maintain sirens as part of an Emergency Management System. Fort Worth, TX has sirens in its downtown. I was there years ago, when they went off for a tornado warning. It sounded like a siren from an old Godzilla movie, which led me to yell "Is Godzilla coming??!" 🙀
@@larrycj4382 Thanks for the reply! I got the LA map years ago from a city manager and he said they were all disconnected and that LA didn't want to spend money to remove them.
@@EdDunkle I feel like those could be very useful in a future earthquake early warning system.
Interesting intro, at least someone seems to be enjoying themselves!
I live in San Francisco, California and same thing too. Homeless problem here also. It is throughout in the state of California. We are trying to recall the Governor of California in September, Gavin Newsom.
One side of LA I need to visit!
I love Japan 🇯🇵🌸💮
If I was a billionaire, I would build them houses or better yet, a large apartment complex they can stay in. I hate to see people in despair. I see it a lot here in the SF valley also.
Nakita Tillis with all due respect, please don't wait to become a billionaire, if all of us did something positive, besides, wishing and praying to help folks, we'd accomplish a lot! I remember the famed actress Bridget Bardot says "crying tears of despair and sorrow" do little in the real world to solve problems! Solving challenges takes action! Becoming proactive in some small way leads to mountains being moved in real life". I know because I have experienced it myself. I am now 75, and still making a positive difference, I am no billionaire, but an aging man with some health issues myself! Just Go for It!
You wouldn't need to build it for we have the buildings and space to house all our people while teaching them life skills if they need that too. Life skills like paying rent, but making rent affordable and realistically reasonable instead of it being a greedy ass system of the billionaires taking all out of being proud psychopaths lusting for more power and wealth where like a cocain addiction. They don't have empathy like you express and mentioned and they simply don't give a rats ass for this is all about themselves being richer and richer. And they don't care about America though many have US citizenship only for convenience to do as they want where they hop the big ponds regularly and just do shit that benefits the billionaire financial elite class at the great expense of billions of people and about 195 other countries also taking way too big of a hit only going down and all becoming increasingly worse while the Earth is intentionally being ruined out. They don't care about any of the countries other than Switzerland for that's their actual home base and like many of them have stated over the years, one world government is their primary objective. I want my country, the USA, to come back to shine brightly and be the empire of liberty that is of the people, by the people, and for the people. We will have to unite the fight to drive it home to them that they need to understand this one thing.
@@TUBESPECIFIC1 Of course much of what you say is true, however unless you have a very aware public who uses its voting power in a democratic form of gov't it is POWER of the few who "corrupt" those with weakened sense of morality. Did you read Professor Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States", "A History of the American Empire", "A People's History Truth Has Power of ITS Own" with Ray Suarez. Your passion would be better put to use than "bitching" about the system than "pitching", and doing something about the conditions. Being a agitator is often self serving, grandstanding and not having "skin in the game"! Liberty has never come cheaply obtained. Democracy is a form of government which is certainly slower in getting things accomplished when compared to Totalitarian , and a Monarchy. How it would be "wonderful" if all this 1% of humanity were held accountable by the 99% of us on the planet. "Better to light a candle, than curse the darkness" ! "May you live as long as you want to and want to as long as you live"! Peace! BTW Empathy without Action remains in one's mind...proactive, skin in the game, becoming a stakeholder not a defeatist attitude is more suitable for changing minds, enlightening ...that take real time and work!
Me too! I would provide a managed, small building-type area with toilets and showers for the homeless.
@@ellelorraine3540 Many need professional mental treatment where can they get cognitive therapy or some cases permanent facilities that are humane?
Los Angeles City Hall! TV's first Superman (1951), George Reeves always flew past the LA City Hall. 😎👍
Love the California vlogs! Any love vlogs tonight?
Dooooood ! Skid Row, man..be aware. Cool vids. Take care.
Very interesting!😅😆😁
Donatsu has amazing donuts you need to try them!!
hahaha what a rocking intro😂

Always liked this area WAY back when I lived in LA.. Stayed at a hotel in the area last time I visited. Yes, large homeless population and not being dealt with effectively.
You plan on going to Vegas anytime in the mere future
Did you get to the Japanese Heritage Museum and East/West Players Theatre?

Salt Lake City used to have a wonderful J-town, but it was destroyed to build the convention center though one street still exists where a Japan cultural festival occurs once a year still. We want that exotic cultural walking street show and music, but never have enough of it anywhere in the US. Bali thrives by presenting the most classical Asian art and old temple performances every day and night. The classic LA and San Francisco city halls are most iconic being such lovely classical European architecture. I think LA's is art deco and San Francisco is Beaux Classical if I remember, both which are some of the finest stone architecture like the US and state capitals. I've been to Skid Row and all that so I've seen the homeless situation and see it in Salt Lake City all the time too and it makes me cry to no end that America turned out so horrible in the 21st century so far. It makes mad as fuck that the rich take it all while lobbying the government to make policies that benefit the corporations and financial elite. It disappoints to no end that Amendment 1 allows corporations which are artificial persons to exercise freedom of speech by lobbying in Washington all the way down the local city level. It's a stupid system for the Constitution should have never allowed artificial persons or AI to lobby politicians using such big money that we the people have no say in anything despite voting and attempting. The fucking candidates are all picked by big money interests and there's never a good choice on the ballots. America is not going to work out for it had the greatest potential of any country in the entire history yet it's going to fail due to massive greed of the upper crust.
OMG !! !The Beginning Of The Video !!! Hilarious
I would like to take my daughter to the Pho Ever restaurant. She loves Japanese anything.🤗 And I can try those oxtails. The picture looked yummy.
Too bad Pho isn’t a Japanese name or restaurant
@@spdaprince lol. Yeah, after I left the comment, I looked it up online and it says Vietnamese restaurant.🤦🤣
Why are there scooters just laying everywhere on the ground.👀😮🤔 interesting..
nice intro
There’s a japantown in São Paulo Brazil as well
Actually Novi MI is considered the Little Tokyo of the Midwest and has a huge Japanese population there and growing fast.
I love Little Tokyo so much to experience! Just a suggestion somi somi is popular but it's more hype. It wasn't good. The fish waffle dough was raw and small. If you go around towards the mall you'll get better and bigger. Cafe Dulce the same. Overly priced not that great. Other than that very fun and other yummy places to try..
AK do you prefere LA or Miami?
I miss taking the train here
The rock fan was a typical Los angelito. Nothing too fear. They are common here.
Man, the pandemic really has taken its toll on the vibe here. Looking forward to the slow recovery
Not many cars. Is it because of the pandemic?
Little Tokyo still kinda looks like LA before vaccines
Probably because it's the weekday. I was there last Sunday, and there were plenty of cars.
いきたい!
I was there about 2 weeks ago
My half sister grew up here!
Too bad the east coast does not have a real J Town. We just have the East Village & Edgewater NJ. And Flushing too, years ago.
walk 33 minutes (in video) how many kilometers did you walk?
I think you are awesome!
4:23-6:41 the homeless estimation (1/7/2020) by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development/HUD was 580,466 (United States) Sheltered (354,386/61.1%), Unsheltered (226,080/39.9%), California (161,548), Los Angeles County (66,436), Los Angeles City (41,290). Many people claim the highest concentration of the homeless population in Skid Row is on East 6th Street.
The outgoing LA mayor and city council are mostly responsible for the out of control growth of homeless , by the way most of them are from out of the state, they were attracted to the city due to nice weather, benefits and the off hands approach by the city government.
Big like 👍👍👍👍👍
Nice video 👍🔥👍

Ebisu closed due to the covid pandemic
It closed due to government restrictions.

A lot of Japanese restaurants in So Cal are really owned by Koreans.
WOW that guy is super high
have k will travel wow
You need to get your facts straight bro.😎🎸
Why are scooters lying all over the place? are they public?
Yes, they are for rent by credit card. Many US cities now have them. When the charge is used up, people just leave them on the sidewalk and then a truck picked them up later. Charges scooters are deposited on various streets during the night.
@@larrycj4382 oh!! i see, thanks for answering
@@richardwulf1382 I think it looks very sloppy when they are scattered about and you may trip on one while walking if you are not careful (like looking @ your phone).
