It still baffles me why the Station Wagon market in the US is so tiny... They are the best of both worlds!!! E91's are just gorgeous, here in Europe you have basically every trim you can think off running around.
Interesting car, but I think you're missing the point of the M cars, the manual gearbox in the 330d wasn't great, the auto was actually the box of choice, the challenge with manual big power M57's (unless that's an N57 with an M57 engine cover), is the need for an up-rated clutch and the vibrations from the DMF, which you needed to gear down to avoid @ 4:15. The M57 is also a cast iron block so the front end is going to be a lot heavier than the S65 all aluminium engine. So while this is cool, it's really not anywhere near the same class of car as the instant responding 8300 rpm screamer in the M3. The M3 provides a sense of occasion that simply cannot be matched by any diesel equivalent.
@@gasjunkies7048 It's certainly interesting and it's a testament to the owner as this obviously took a lot of time, effort and money. Being more powerful is kind of irrelevant, the additional torque is arguably useless, the only advantage to it is towing or overtaking and the stock 335d would have done that in as little as makes no odds the same way. Changing to the M3 suspension components would improve turn in and steering feel but would also drastically increase the NVH, the car still won't turn in like an M3 due to the additional weight of the M57, so it still isn't really as good as an M3 and poorer in the areas it was designed to excel due to the change in NVH.
@@daveisasdavedoes3558 bro really? @@Reggie_Kray69 long term E92 M3 owner and had an LCI 330d as a daily driver along side it for a decent amount of time. You haven't really read or understood what I've wrote, I'll try to elaborate. Torque is work, horsepower is work over time, torque can push you out of a corner will stop doing so when it runs out of steam, an engines ability to rev is what gives it character. It's why 99% of almost every competitive performance application is petrol. The suggestion of this video is that a tuned E91 335d is on par or better than an M3, and it just isn't. On the NVH, the purpose of a standard E90 is to be reasonably refined, when you change to solid bushings and monoball bushes, you're taking the isolation and damping out of the construction of the arm and making it louder. So yes, it will be louder, not as loud as the M3 given that a lot of the sound deadening of the M3 is removed, but it will be worse than it was before the change was made. From a refinement perspective, a car who's brief was to be refined is now no longer refined. So end result, you have a car that can perform, but it's without character in my opinion. It won't turn in like an M3 as it will have a heavier nose, and electric steering and it won't have the character of the S65. There's a reason almost no performance diesel is regarded as collectible.
I still can’t believe they got to 335d in the states, in Europe nearly every single car comes with a Diesel option, even little 1200cc diesels, the 335d is the king of them all though in recent years.
