    That "weird" connector is simply USB 3.0 "B" connector. The "A" connector is the one normally found on the computer. Prior to USB 3 the "B" connector was a simple square, but 3.0 needs more wires. They could hide those inside the "A" connector, but "B" and "micro-B" needed to get bigger. The "micro-B" stayed thin, but about 2x as wide as the 2.0 "micro-B".
    Then USB "C" connector has even more wires. :)

    That weird USB-B connects MUCH better than the flimsy "micro-B" ports found on many external SSD or HDD enclosures. Some enclosures also use USB-A to USB-A (the regular blue rectangle). I've found that sometimes the metal latches/hooks on the micro-B cables don't stay seated after multiple times of plugging and unplugging.

      @@LamarMK is this a stupid idea...I can’t seem to knock it off my mind...
      Someone should make a backpack or bag built for a Mac Mini. Maybe have a charging brick/station pouch built into the bag. Then for people with a large enough iPad they could use Luna Display on location and have a powerful system. Is that a stupid idea, seeing MacBooks are around? 😂. I work remotely a lot and the thought of having something really powerful has me intrigued. Oh, and the bag could have a pass through for an electrical cord in case you need to plug in somewhere. What would be cool for benchmarks like this, is to put the SSDs (or spare dirves) in RAID to see if it improves, or even hurts performance, though with a USB 3.0 B cable i dont think you'll see any improvement. Maybe if they update it to USB-C 3.2x2
    Most of these kind of adapters, in my experience, have disconnected other drives whenever a drive is added or removed, you just need to give it time, Which is hard to do with OS11, as it gets mad at you for disconnecting a drive before ejecting it. I use a different brand adapter at work to wipe drives of computers we are going to recycle/sell, and i have to make sure all drives are attached to the adapter before i start wiping, or the wipe will fail. Also if one drive finishes way before another drive(say a 240GB SSD finishes 2 hours before a 2TB HDD) i have to leave the 240GB SSD in until all drives are finished

    • @LamarMK
      @LamarMK  3 года назад

      Yeah, that’s kinda the only downside with it disconnecting if you take out a drive, but it immediately reconnects. For your method of wiping multiple drives that would definitely be an issue.
      Yeah, I’ve noticed that crazy disconnecting with Big Sur. So far in the latest updates it seems to not happen as often. 👍💪

    So it looks like it will also be capable of holding the 5TB 15mm drives. Pretty cheap way of getting ~15TB with one dirve of redundancy. Sure you could get 4x8TB SSDs, but that would be super expensive compared to HDD

    • @LamarMK
      @LamarMK  3 года назад

    will 2 SSDs work good for Full HD/ 4K Home Video Editing with this product? I mean having the 2 SSDs working at the same time with the video editing software

      Yes, it can read and write both drives simultaneously. 👍💪

    is this true? "No way to set the device to power on automatically after power is restored. You always need to push the power button to turn it on."

    Why do you need this fan at all? I would use it without putting this fan if possible.

    Here on Amazon Japan this docking station is currently ¥11,774 or $111
    The double of the price in the USA
    It seems to be a good product. But for now I’ll pass.

      Still might be a useful good device for my mini.

    It is not 50$ and it is not 5bg/s. At around the same price, the orica solutions are better. Mine is a 5 bay and it goes to 400mb/s

    "This weird looking connector on this end and a regular USB connector on the next,"
    Haha, dude, those are both USB connectors! "Weird looking" one is a USB-B, the second is the far more common USB-A.

    • @LamarMK
      @LamarMK  3 года назад

      Ok, Thanks! My question is, doesn’t it look weird to you? It’s not as common as the everyday USB-A/USB-C connectors that everybody’s used to. 👍💪

    why is nobody complaining about the fact that usb3 controller on mac mini m1 is splitting in half the normal speed??! 5gps are about 625mb per second... and on mac mini m1 is like the half! How Apple could get away with this? How is Apple justiying it? I love my Mac mini M1 but this point really makes me crazy.... it's like they have sabotaged the connections that are not Thunderbolt (by Apple).

      @@LamarMK Hi, thank you for finding a solution, I'm really glad you did and I'm considering it, but this is not a real solution from Apple's side: they can't ask you to spend 400 € or more for gears that kinda solve what on my old 2008 mac pro still works as it should. The fact USB3 doesn't work at the speed it should, is from my point of view one of the most irritating problems of the Mac Mini M1, because I can't really understand the reason.
