I already got the A95L, and as a single player gamer, I’m happy with the input lag and brightness. And I prefer picture quality over input lag, so I’m honestly glad I got the A95L. Sony processing is just for me.
HDMI 2.1 matters for non-gammers too. 2.1b includes HDMI QMS which reduces or removes the screen blanking when switching between frame rates. LG's 2.1 ports support this, but apparently Sony's do not.
I bought a G4 for gaming. May I add 2 things that rting forget to mention 1. The G4 is greenish and a bit washedout color, especially at 6500k, and you need to calibrate the color to get it right. The sharpening system is rather poor. But it has hgig so it'll be a very good HDR gaming experience. 2. The A95L doesn't have an HGIG mode, which means the HDR gaming experience will be greatly diminished. But there are very good tuning options and the picture quality is top notch. So take your pick
I am a huge Sony TV fan as well, and for cinema, yes the A95L is the better TV, but the differences are so subtle that I really don't mind, especially in my use case. Both are incredible TVs and you can't go wrong, really a matter of taste and use case. As a person who is 95% using PC on the TV and for both desktop and gaming, The G4 was the perfect fit. I found the HGIG mode on the G4 being incredible in HDR PC games at 144hz using G-sync. Desktop is also more enjoyable at 144hz vs 120hz. The 5 year warranty makes it okay to use the TV as a PC screen, burn in is covered. The G4 is the best possible experience all things considered in my use case. Also, the G4 is very accurate out of the box in Game Mode, just need to tune it to Warm 50 and you are in Filmmaker settings while still retaining all the other benefits of the Game Optimizer mode. Also, the G4 comes in 83" which was really important to me as well.
I have the A95L over a year now. While it started with some bugs, this is by far the best experience a tv ever gave me. While watching/ playing content on other tv's, I always notice the drop in quality over the A95L. This is hands down the best tv for my needs.
You can argue the Sony has the better picture due to more color gamut/volume, but this comes at a huge price difference and limited usage possibilities... G4 is an unmatched all rounder with the best price/performance ratio!!

From what I’ve heard the reason Sony did not go with an 83” like Samsung did with their display is because they found that exceeding that 77” caused a slight loss in color detail.
In my country I got the G4 for about €1800 on a discount whilst the A95L is about €3000. That price difference is too much to swallow for a 2023 model with an older panel than the S95D.
@@Jordanfiend361 So you're saying that €1800 is near €3000?? That €1200 difference is just pocket change for you? Have you seen the TVs side by side in a showroom to make up your own opinion? Or do you just watch comparisons on RUclips on your mobile's tiny screen?

The lack of HDMI 2.1 ports is absolutely unacceptable on an otherwise bleeding edge TV at that high of price. I really hope Sony fixes this issue next year. If they don’t, I’ll be buying my first OLED from LG.
@@brokenwrench404 I feel like LG each year just takes a bullet point list on the most improvements needed on their TV online and just excutes it the next year with their new lineup
I am a gamer and still went for the A95L, because the G4 might be brighter in game mode, but the colours are still not as vibrant as on Sony's TV. That colour pop is worth way more than the brightness alone, because the somewhat more washed out colours of the LG appear darker and less vibrant to your eyes. G4 is no slouch, though. The G3 was already really good.
Idk I bought a 65” G4 recently and I’m playing Jedi Survivor atm. Every time I take out the lightsaber, especially in a dark room, the HDR impact hits like crazy. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on color, like “oh I wish the lightsaber looked more blue” but I wouldn’t want any less brightness.
@@BigHugeChamp Well, you won't miss anything until you go QD-Oled. Once you do, you can't go back. Blue is less of a problem imho. But Yellows and greens. WOLEDs never get them right. That also includes lighter earth tones like sand colour.
I am nog gonna lie, Sony would be preferred, however, differences mentioned and where Sony pulls ahead, is more noticeable when having them side by side. The 5 year panel warranty, and a huge price difference between the two is why I went with G4. I am sure next year there will be another best tv ever on the market and 99.9999% of people will not just sell their new tv to keep up with technology. Therefore, spending so much more on minor difference just to own the best of the best for 6 more months is simply not worth it. In Canada, LG G4 77” is selling for $5k CAD and A95L goes for $7k. When you add the warranty from Best Buy and taxes, there is a difference of $2600. For that amount you could almost get a 65” S90d or Bravia 8. Love you guys, always appreciated your hard work and reviews.
You should have tested the G4 with the latest firmware version 23.20.40. LG has significantly improved the brightness here. This was a big Firmware Update.
I have a 77" G4 and love it. I'm about to check if I have the firmware update. Can I ask, how do you know it's brighter by those numbers in those modes, have you tested it or seen a video of someone testing it? Or has LG announced something officially?
@@marcel8865 Thanks for the reply Marcel, that's good news. I just checked and I'm on 23.20.40, which is interesting as the auto update toggle was off!
Hi everyone, we can spend hours and hours discussing whether the matte finish is better or the glossy one... but the real difference is made by the quality and brightness of the COLOR and the QD OLED is unbeatable, I think it will be the future of OLED panels
I owned both and sold the a95l. There are a few issues reviewers don’t often bring up. First, the baked in sharpening of the a95l creates horrible flashing/sparkling/swimming artifacts when highly texturized material is shown. Think foliage, sand, etc. It was distracting. Second, the A95Ls motion handling was abysmal. Things were a stuttery, slide show mess on any panning shots. Finally, the a95ls lack of polarizer (inherent to qd OLED panels) meant that the black levels were noticeably and significantly raised compared to the lg. I liked a lot about the a95l but these were dealbreakers. I will say that the UI and remote on the Sony win by a landslide. Much more premium experience and much more customizable.
In my country, the A95L is 50% more expensive than the G4 at all sizes. Yeah the A95L has the best image quality. But not worth an extra 1200€ at 65": 2400€ for a G4, 3600€ for a A95L.
@@TheMrAwax yes but i had to say it, people need to wake up. Its also not about oled or brightness this is all bs. I got 2 led flagships as well and its about the processing especially for normal content. Panasonic is here in its own league. Not all of this other marketing crap you know
I have noticed that wherever there is light reflections the picture has more depth. Therefore since g4 has a white sub pixel it should add more depth (3d pop). I wonder if just having a white subpixel desaturating the color but addind depth is a drawback to the panel technologies. Imo depth is more important than the barely perceivable saturation. G4 also has better processing than sony. Thier processor is custom designed and handles fine detail better when in motion. It's also a matter of supporting proper development. Sony is not developing their processor as well as they should, and their soc is not up to date with only 2 2.1 hdmi. In that regard supporting lg g4 for proper development and better quality is the right thing to do.
From looking at this review it seems like the legit only reason to go Sony would be if you are a true cinema nerd. Anyone who games ever would choose the LG every time. There’s not enough noticeable diff to sacrifice that input lag.
Incorrect, the sony has far better color accuracy and far more detailed image, but it's not worth the money. I think the Bravia 8 is a better choice than either of these tvs for 90% of people.
I'm curious, when you're comparing upscaling between products, is Reality Creation enabled? I'm one of the few who doesn't actually like RC, so I'm wondering how much it factors.
I love these comparisons videos, don’t stop. I love knowing that the A95L beats the best and the LG puts up a good fight, being 3rd place here is nothing to scoff at, even 2nd place Samsung S95D is very respectable
Hello RTINGS, I was wondering whether you would could do more testing when it comes to the upscaling of games. I personally tested the A95K and G2 next to each other with multiple games on performance modes. The upscaling and color spectrum in the A95K was clearly superb, there was much more detail on everything in the game and was very clear to see. It made my choice easy as the difference was a little like remastering the game. I would rather give up the the G4’s 2-extra HDMI ports, less input lag, and slight extra brightness for a much cleaner and colorful picture. Also the A95K gives you more choices on what you can change on Game Mode.
I'll be honest, if I had 3000€ to spend on a TV (that is the price of 55" A95L in my country) I would definetly go with the Sony, but I couldn't help but buy the G4 at a discounted 1500€ and I am soooo happy about it :)
I own the A95L and I need to bring up a major con that none of the reviewers ever address. Yes it is the best looking tv right now. Seeing in person all oleds side by side the Dolby vision, QD-Oled, and Sony’s imaging processing makes for incredible picture. So what is the Con I speak of? It has THE WORST eARC implementation I have ever had the displeasure of using. It is not plug and play. Going to an AVR the audio and video sync is way off. Your audio will be anywhere from 200-300ms ahead. You can avoid this problem by taking the time and finding the exact delay you need to set or by plugging the player directly into the TV and outputting the audio through the eARC to your AVR for your home theater. This creates new problems though. Now you have a choice of what problem you want to have. If you have the TV audio setting set at auto or PCM it will compress your audio, lose detail, and create major distortion. Or you can set it to “prioritize pass through” which gives you the full detail as intended but mixed down then up again and you will experience complete audio drops every now and then where it just stops sending signal for a split second. Another issue is that the TV doesn’t play nice with AppleTV 4k and will take several attempts to get it to recognize Dolby Vision. Once you get it, it stays though. You will also have to turn on variable rate on the AppleTV or your videos will not sync up with the tv like tv claims and it will have major hitching and stuttering. Audio also distorts even more if plugged directly to the tv and outputting through the eARC. It’s extremely frustrating, so if you’re not willing to work on your setup, avoid the TV.
you guys really need to talk more about audio performance. i am looking at getting one of these two tvs but do not want to use an HT system or soundbar for every day viewing. i bought an LG C3 a few months ago and took it back within a day. two issued bugged me, bad motion handling with my directv box and burned tv movies on my bluray player but the other issue was the audio. it was actually pretty bad. but the G4 should have better audio than the C3? also, doesnt the sony a95l have the screen transducers? i assume the audio is much better on the sony?
It’s Sony for me - just waiting on that 83” or 85” and will pull the trigger immediately…from what I’ve seen online, a lotta folks will b doing the same too. Thanks for the review!
That’s the Main or Only reason WHY I haven’t yet bought the A95L 77”!! I was Hoping they’d do it this past spring when everyone put out their New TVs. So I’m gonna wait til April/May (?) for everyone’s new models and hopefully Sony gives us the same quality as the 77” A95L QD OLED but, in a bigger size: 83-86”. Of course it’ll probably cost a Ton ($6500-8000?), but we’ll see… 🤔 🤷♂️😎
Just care about refresh rate VRR for gaming. Normal tv or movie watching isn’t enough to worry about which ones better, so for me the deciding factor is which one is best for gaming.
Why does the A95L has lower HDR brightness in game mode? In your tests, the game mode HDR has 1147 nits on 10% window and outside of the game mode it has 1146 nits of brightness. It’s the same. So what’s different?
@@makaiokalahama Disables display tone mapping and hands it off to the game if the game if supported to properly match peak luminance levels. I should note not all titles support HGiG.

Just lacks 4 HDMI 2.1 everything else is the best at least to say
I just went to Best Buy last Friday and chose the G4 due to a list a dealbrealers for me as gaming will be the primary use, with streaming/Netflix, movies, etc a secondary use. A95L: - No native 1440p or 144hz support ✅ - No FreeSync ✅ - Only two HDMI 2.1 ports (1 of which is eArc) ✅ - Dim in game mode ✅ - Worse input lag ✅ - Very wide feet requiring a large entertainment center ✅ - Only a 1-year manufacturer warranty ✅ - Unreliable Dolby Vision implementation ✅
@@SolarErazer She literally said g4 is brighter on measurements but a95l handles real world content better, the tone mapping of the a95l is less aggressive making it look brighter, you can clearly see it in the comparison, I'm not the one coping just stating what I see...
In ambient light the LG G4 beats any qd OLED in contrast and color depth.you can easily see by this comparison.when it comes to very low ambient light the qd OLED s easily beat the LG g4.many reviewers are not reviewing heavily on this specific comparison
Have they even fixed Dolby Vision on the A95L yet? Considering the vast majority of HDR is Dolby Vision that's kinda a big deal. Convenient reviewers always completely ignore Dolby Vision. The wider colour gamut is irrelevant there's barely any BT2020 content and by the time there is you'll want a new TV anyway. If the A95L has different colours one or both of them is inaccurate, they should look exactly the same in none BT2020 content and only some colours should vary in BT2020 the entire colour space shouldn't be more saturated. Low bit rate handling is one of the most important metrics. The vast majority of people only watch cable TV and streaming. The G4 is the better TV. Better streaming and Dolby Vision that actually works properly. The A95L also has raised blacks and very poor dark colour volume.
QD-OLED ➡️ OLED w/ MLA ➡️ WOLED ➡️ Mini-LED ➡️ LED/LCD Although subjective, most would agree that picture quality in consumer level TVs would go like this from best to least.

I’m a gamer but gonna have to say QD-OLED is more my cup of tea than LG WOLEDS. If LG gets in on the QD-OLED shiz, Sony and Samsung gonna have a run for their money. 💰
LG has already made a run at their business. Samsung is buying WOLED panels from them. Panasonic buys them as well. LG are the giant in the panel making manufacturers of OLED. Literal giants creating the largest panel sizes for OLED. MLA WOLED have pure whites and don't rely on over taxing a blue subpixel for White. They are also the longest consecutive producer of TVs and Panels of the OLED technology for the consumer market.
Both are top tier. If you get either one, you’ll be very satisfied. The Sony is unbeatable in pure picture quality for movie watching. LG is slightly better for gaming and has a convenient slim back mount. A95L is the king of TVs. LG is top 3.
I think the current price also needs to be considered. If they are priced the same or Sony is 1000 CAD. For this price its ridiculous to go for the A95L in my POV
@@brokenwrench404 so price is added as a consideration factor if you watch the video to the end. But it says slightly more expensive- I’m not sure if it’s the case in US or other regions. From what I’ve heard the reason Sony did not go with an 83” like Samsung did with their display is because they found that exceeding that 77” caused a slight loss in color detail.
@@wallyj2000 correct. I was thinking more in these inchs or that size in general. It should be a perfect option.

The latest Software Update of the Lg g4 increases the brightness in hdr filmmaker and Game Mode dramatically
Hi, what is the software version? are you speaking of so I could check and see if my G4 has it.
@@wallyj2000 Firmware is 23.20.40. The G4 is now up to 200-300 nits brighter in filmmaker mode and gaming mode.
It can now reach over 1,700 nits, in the 1% window even up to 2,500 nits and it remains 10 degrees cooler.
The lack of HDMI 2.1 ports is absolutely unacceptable on an otherwise bleeding edge TV at that high of price.
I really hope Sony fixes this issue next year. If they don’t, I’ll be buying my first OLED from LG.
We’ve been saying this for years now. Sony doesn’t listen
@@brokenwrench404 I feel like LG each year just takes a bullet point list on the most improvements needed on their TV online and just excutes it the next year with their new lineup
It's mediatek who need to be addressed.
Higher burn in risk with qd oled tvs. Much higher burn in risk. Not just a higher risk overall
@@mohammedfaiisalalso I saved like $1500 by going with the G4 lol
Also HGIG and 4 2.1hdmi ports is pretty good. I like the LG gaming dashboard a lot.
@@BigHugeChamp Well, you won't miss anything until you go QD-Oled. Once you do, you can't go back. Blue is less of a problem imho. But Yellows and greens. WOLEDs never get them right. That also includes lighter earth tones like sand colour.
Thanks rtings.
A95L is nice but the 83" G4 being only $500 more than the 77" A95L puts it #1. That size difference is big. Sony needs to get a bigger size.
They forgot the better near black level of the G4
The G4 is now up to 200-300 nits brighter in filmmaker mode and gaming mode. It can now reach over 1,700 nits in 10% window, in the 1% window even up to 2,500 nits and it remains 10 degrees cooler.
This was a big Firmware Update.
I have a 77" G4 and love it. I'm about to check if I have the firmware update.
Can I ask, how do you know it's brighter by those numbers in those modes, have you tested it or seen a video of someone testing it? Or has LG announced something officially?
@@trevhib Here in Germany, a tuber tested it and determined the new values with measurements.

Absolutely love the TV, and the reviews are super interesting regardless
Hi everyone, we can spend hours and hours discussing whether the matte finish is better or the glossy one... but the real difference is made by the quality and brightness of the COLOR and the QD OLED is unbeatable, I think it will be the future of OLED panels
Rtings never get rid of Abby! Well unless she gets promoted
Absolutely love this channel
Wrong, panasonic got the best picture quality because of its Processor. Best detail preservation and motion handling, sony is second.
@@Horvat04 I was talking about the A95L vs G4
And a 65" Z95 is 4k …€ 😭
(And I’m a die hard fan of Panasonic plasma, I still have 2 of them at home)
If only Sony still offered the A95L in Australia. Not happy.
Price difference huge here
A95L >1000 euro more
G4 65 2200 euro
A95L 3500 euro
The A95L I’m loving it
I love my Sony Bravia B9 75 inch.
Meh
No dolby vision

Why not cover motion?
It would be good to make a comparison between Panasonic Z95A vs Sony A95L
The Z95A has been tested on Rtings, and does not perform as well as A95L and G4.
on their own you'll be fine. but yeah right next to each other the A95L is better.
Sony's processing is top notch
But below Panasonic
People spending a great deal of money on these oleds and still using the tv's speakers... laughable at best 😂
The built in speakers are more than enough for most people
It’s Sony for me - just waiting on that 83” or 85” and will pull the trigger immediately…from what I’ve seen online, a lotta folks will b doing the same too.

That’s the Main or Only reason WHY I haven’t yet bought the A95L 77”!! I was Hoping they’d do it this past spring when everyone put out their New TVs.
Another win for LG is HGIG support when compared to Sony.
That's why I didn't take the Sony A95L, I can't play without the HGIG.
Sony has HGIG and it does better dynamic tone mapping. Lgs hgig is to dim

LG is true fast but it induces a lot of judder on the image
Sony A95L is the best ever! Just lacks 4 HDMI 2.1 everything else is the best at least to say
I just went to Best Buy last Friday and chose the G4 due to a list a dealbrealers for me as gaming will be the primary use, with streaming/Netflix, movies, etc a secondary use.
A95L:

- No FreeSync ✅
- Only two HDMI 2.1 ports (1 of which is eArc) ✅
- Dim in game mode ✅
- Worse input lag ✅
- Very wide feet requiring a large entertainment center ✅
- Only a 1-year manufacturer warranty ✅
- Unreliable Dolby Vision implementation ✅
A95L supports 1440p, also is not any dimmer in game mode. The only reason to choose a G4 would be the input lag

Almost 2025 and Sony and Samsung still only give you two 2.1 ports. This has caused everyone I know to buy an LG for several years now.
Sony Bravia B9 75 inch for the 🏆

LG has already made a run at their business. Samsung is buying WOLED panels from them. Panasonic buys them as well. LG are the giant in the panel making manufacturers of OLED. Literal giants creating the largest panel sizes for OLED. MLA WOLED have pure whites and don't rely on over taxing a blue subpixel for White. I think the current price also needs to be considered. If they are priced the same or Sony is 1000 CAD. For this price its ridiculous to go for the A95L in my POV
Price shouldn’t matter when truly comparing tv like this. Price is for the buyer to decide what they want to spend
@@brokenwrench404 so price is added as a consideration factor if you watch the video to the end. But it says slightly more expensive- I’m not sure if it’s the case in US or other regions.
