I agree it probably shouldn't be on the main broadcast part of the show but I may be in the minority and it's not like I *enjoy* it but I do want to see and know the real aftermath of the sport. I can *know* the sport is brutal, I can be told of the brain damage but I find myself against the idea of putting even the worst parts "backstage" if you will, at least for fans like me who can handle it. I would rather it not be on camera but I've never looked away or felt real bad when I see something like this. I almost feel like I owe it to the fighters to really see what they're going through if I'm just gonna be sat on my couch getting entertained. I've trained a fair bit and trained people for their fights and I do want people to know what really happens and to know that a knockout is an injury and a serious one. Some people don't need that lesson so fair to you if you don't want to see that part but a lot of people cheer their head off for a KO and squeam when a leg breaks because one looks worse but in reality every KO is a bad injury and this kind of thing keeps things in perspective for people like me.
Its also about endorsements and jobs you can do after mma, re:Colby, and if you destroy your own reputation then you get less of those, less commentary and analysis gigs and such.
Have to disagree with Tony keep fighting, he’s taken so much damage. Between hearing voices in his walls, dousing his wife in holy water and crashing his car while drunk the guy must have the brain of an 80 year old. Cannot let a guy like that get hit in the head anymore tbh. Look at what Benoit did.
1:24 i dont mind watching fights right when i wake up right after they finished (I’m a GMT+1 timesloter), if would have to watch all non-fight nonsense id probably never watch at all tbh
You really should make a video podcast. Brilliant stuff but it would make much better content if you could show the techniques that you describe and much more people would watch, not many people want to listen on RUclips with no video. Love your breakdowns but definitely suggest looking into video stuff
I used to think like this, when I First started listening to Slack, I had been watching the sport for about 8 years but realised I had no idea about what was going on haha. I had to actually learn what he was talking about in order to partake. There are easier breakdowns with a visual component.
I like Leon because he's technical but man he's just not quite assertive enough to get to finishing chances that he can definitely finish. Once Colby started coming forward or right after he gets up he could have been attacking him on resets and exits.
He literally head kicked Colby when he was getting up lol. That would've knocked most people out. You can't expect him to force exchanges when the opponent isn't doing anything. He already forced some of the grappling which he absolutely didn't need to do to win.
Colby has seemed to have lost the style that brought him to the dance and that style is a nightmare for leon. 2 year lay off whilst being nearly 36 probably has something to do with it and Leon could barely do anything, both were abhorrent.
To be athletically worse is expected, but his striking and grappling looked technically worse. I suspect he got KOd or seriously sick during the few weeks leading up to the fight
How is that style a nightmare for Leon? Leon is an elite striker and an elite grappler, Colby is a clunky wrestle-boxer who throws looping shots while staring at his own feet. Maybe after he beats Shavkat people will give him his dues, though I'm sure you dullards will say that Shav actually had tonsillitis and the version of him that fought Wonderboy would destroy Leon etc. etc. etc.
This fight proved the exact opposite - Keon is a nightmare match up for Colby. Colby’s pressure style works against many people but not against someone with length and a mastery of timing and range like Leon has. It’s not like Colby just randomly gave up on his usual gameplan, he just didn’t have the skills to employ it against a striker of Leon’s calibre.
IMO, Leon is suuuuuuper good. I am a fan since he beat my boy Nelson...those elbows are pure art. He could be a worldbeater if he would pull the trigger just a little bit more...he started to toy with Colby as he does with all his opponents. Instead of playing with them, he should sit down on his punches more or extend his combos to get more finishes. I still enjoy watching him sooo much, but i get a little frustrated from time to time.
So glad someone finally points out how overrated Colby is. He's good, yeah, but everyone is treating him as a god-tier. You look at his W-L and the opponents and their career status during his fights, it's a been a very "meh" career. Daddy Dana just keeps gifting him with main events.
Honestly, i feel like royval won the fight through damage. On the ground he was elbowing the shit out of pantoja and on the feet he was getting pieced up.
@@discogypsyfish9577 there were literally points in the 2nd and 3rd were pantoja was sitting in half guard getting like 15 elbows to the face. But there is a reason i dont call it a robbery. Top control > damage when champ is grappling
I can't even think of a fight for Leon that would get me exited other than Ian Garry or Wonderboy. If Leon fights Belal, it's just going to be this again. It might even be worse. It's never on the champion to bring the fight or be entertaining, it's always the challenger(apart from Carla Esparza, that is the only exception), and Leon fights like it which I can respect.
@@discogypsyfish9577 I don't think so, Shavkat didn't even attempt to stand with Wonderboy at all. We will never know until it actually happens, but for now, I don't find it interesting.
@@thisisutubnottwitterwhyhandlesWhy would he when he knows Wonderboy has such a ground deficiency? Leon has a much better grappling game so it'll likely force Shavkat to stand more, just like he did with Geoff.
@@dylan104 Actually you're proving my point by saying "why would he stand and trade with him?", exactly, that's what he's going to do, just hold him against the fence for 25 minutes, or at least try, and although Leon is well rounded his base is still striking, and I think Shavkat's game plan will revolve heavily around that assertion of him, and although I honestly have no clue how good Leon's grappling really is, I do not think it's better than Shavkat. Again, we will never know until he's in there with him but I think that's the most likely outcome, the same thing as the Wonderboy fight.
@@thisisutubnottwitterwhyhandles Except he just subbed Wonderboy in under 2 rounds, he didn't cage grind for 25 minutes so you're contradicting yourself. He's never done that to anyone period, the dude has a 100% finish rate. We literally just saw Leon fight two of the best wrestlers in the division and he took both of them down when neither of them could take each other down, obviously he has good grappling to keep it on the feet if he wants too. Geoff Neal's base is also striking and Shavkat didn't "hold him against the fence for 25 minutes."
Colby & Tony should be in the same retirement home! Eating soup through a straw and doing puzzles for fun!........ It's over boy's, grow old gracefully! It's painful to watch at this point 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
I mist disagree Jack. I became a fan of Leon this fight. Great technical display from him, outside of a few weird choices/mistakes in the grappling, and he behaved like a real Gentleman Champion.
Slight disagree on the Paddy takedown criticism. I dont think he is as bad as Jack makes him to be. He hit a really nice high crotch to sweep single on Tony.

this night had sm wow fuck the ufc moments lmao. rly laughed at dcs fight notes for tony though

Ewards with that Adesanya point fight approach 🥱
Eerie from a woo woo point of view for America. It’s like we forgot how to be awesome.
Covington forgot how to be awesome.
Not to take anything away from Leon.
He deserves that belt for sure.
Counter point: Covington was never awesome
@@kylecunningham9793 at all, he isnt even gatekeeper level he just brings heat to fights bc he is so antagonistic
There are these childish imbeciles who don't understand that criticism can go along with love. Actually, it should always be part of loving something or someone. But nowadays, as soon as you criticize something or someone you are just a hater. It's sad and infuriating at the same time.
On a night out some years back I see a dude who had a booger on show, I quietly let him know, he was super thankful and said that us brothers should look out for one another like that.
@@steady2wheels
Same with bad breath or body odor.
Just say it. People will be thankful.
A bit hurt or embarrassed, maybe.
But ultimately thankful.
So basically the exact opposite of Dana White.
Don't dare to criticize him. You'll be canceled.
Sounds like something a hater would say

People kinda forget how close the first Usman-Covington fight was, when Usman was a terror.
It very well could've been Usman getting TKO'd that fight if he didn't blatantly fake the nut shot and get away with it.
Who the hell wants to watch someone having a seizure live on international TV
Here for the breakdown, staying for the OSW references hellooooooo
⚠ OSW MENTIONED ⚠
Have to disagree with Tony keep fighting, he’s taken so much damage. Between hearing voices in his walls, dousing his wife in holy water and crashing his car while drunk the guy must have the brain of an 80 year old.
Cannot let a guy like that get hit in the head anymore tbh. Look at what Benoit did.
the shavkat rakhmonov of tracking back while wacking off
We love Leon
1:24 i dont mind watching fights right when i wake up right after they finished (I’m a GMT+1 timesloter), if would have to watch all non-fight nonsense id probably never watch at all tbh
I could tell within the first 30 seconds that this was a sparring match not a fight. Colby is a clown.
What's the deal with MVP's dad?
Yeah I didn't get that part I'm not in the know
Too deep of a cut
maybe now you people wil relize running your mouth isnt a skill.
Colby just wanted to get a paycheck like Lewis.
Kind of a dud of a card but hey…not too bad. Shame that the only thing that people seem to remember was the redacted brawl.
OSW REVIEW MENTIONED ❤
You really should make a video podcast. Brilliant stuff but it would make much better content if you could show the techniques that you describe and much more people would watch, not many people want to listen on RUclips with no video. Love your breakdowns but definitely suggest looking into video stuff
I used to think like this, when I First started listening to Slack, I had been watching the sport for about 8 years but realised I had no idea about what was going on haha. I had to actually learn what he was talking about in order to partake.
There are easier breakdowns with a visual component.
At least nobody got hurt in the main event loloool

Just a FYI Leon’s dad didn’t die in prison tho he was a gang leader, it was in a nightclub in London
I like Leon because he's technical but man he's just not quite assertive enough to get to finishing chances that he can definitely finish. Once Colby started coming forward or right after he gets up he could have been attacking him on resets and exits.
Prob only way to jeat him is to attack him off his mode, something that colby is supposed to do. What a maroon
Leon went out there to spar and screw around whilst colby went out to survive and do nothing.
So glad someone finally points out how overrated Colby is. He's good, yeah, but everyone is treating him as a god-tier. You look at his W-L and the opponents and their career status during his fights, it's a been a very "meh" career. Daddy Dana just keeps gifting him with main events.
HAHAHA That title!
SEA-LEVEL COLBY
Honestly, i feel like royval won the fight through damage. On the ground he was elbowing the shit out of pantoja and on the feet he was getting pieced up.
Can't justify giving Royval any of the first 3 rounds tbh, 4 was close and 5 was his for sure imo
@@discogypsyfish9577 there were literally points in the 2nd and 3rd were pantoja was sitting in half guard getting like 15 elbows to the face. But there is a reason i dont call it a robbery. Top control > damage when champ is grappling
Rumble headbutted Gustafson
I can't even think of a fight for Leon that would get me exited other than Ian Garry or Wonderboy. If Leon fights Belal, it's just going to be this again. It might even be worse. It's never on the champion to bring the fight or be entertaining, it's always the challenger(apart from Carla Esparza, that is the only exception), and Leon fights like it which I can respect.
Leon vs Shavkat is a fun matchup imo
