    Another elite angler aimed video. Love your channel. Once you fish long enough most of the content out there is for beginners and discouraging

    I get what you’re saying. I remember when I first started fishing on weekend tournaments the doc talk was always specific. Just like you said. But I always thought if you’re not around fish none of that matters. This kind of stuff is the reason I love your videos

      What have noticed over the years is the folks that are asking for the most parts are not cashing checks. You could put those anglers asking the questions on the winning fish and they might catch a couple but not a winning bag. What separates to guys that constantly do well is knowledge, confidence, and mental toughness. The ability to ride out what you know will win over chasing a limit of 2 pounders just to get a bite and have fish in the bag. That ability to sacrifice and shut down the little voice of doubt in the back of your head.

      Agree, also when comes to local tourneys often you get a partner pre fishes and he is on small bass in numbers....too me if your lake mostly produces cookie cutters that is one thing, but a lake that can have bigger fish, often the little ones lie to you and you lose

    Todd, your co-angler series pointed out some of the best questions to ask imo. Broad, but when you get answers, you should be able to form a plan quickly.

    Great video. It made me think of all my soft plastics and I've never really even noticed....I have some variation of watermelon or green pumpkin with either a black, red, or blue flake and they are all pretty much just jumbled together,,,senko with senko, fluke with fluke etc...😂...and white, bubble gum, black blue because those are the only colors I have confidence that actually might matter sometimes. Hybrid Hunter I have found that Clear Water Minnow & Gizzard Shad seem to cover it for me. Like you say Todd...big, dumb, active fish are the deal. Find those and baits and color become less important. Thanks man!

    Thanks Todd. Great video and even though I am a recreational angler, i agree that there is way too much emphasis on things like color or precise lure choices. Yes, sometimes these things make a difference but it seems that a lot of the time, it is about having the right type of bait that you can work in the cover and a color that is either visible or natural for the water clarity. I have a more fundamental question that almost never gets discussed and that is understanding the movement of baitfish (in my case, shad) since this will likely dictate bass locations and depth much of the year. And this, in turn, will lead to understanding the movement of plankton (food source for shad). I know I can scan around for balls of baitfish but knowing the general behavior should help to locate bass quicker and more efficiently.

    I agree 100%. I have a buddy that’s always trying to give me some color of plastics that I don’t use, “ try this color it’s what they’re baiting on”. I have 4-5 colors I use in plastic baits. 4-5 colors of worms thst seem to work well for me. I agree on line size if my bait works like it should why would go down in line size and risk a break off. I love the Hybrid Hunter I have a lot of the colors but I mainly catch fish on 3 of the probably 8 colors I have. I don’t know if other colors would be better or not. I think why change if this is working. But could I catch more if I was using a color. I would really like to know your thoughts on colors for the HH. Thanks Todd

    I think a funnel would be a good analogy for what you are saying. You need to start with broad questions to get you in the right direction first and as you get things dialed in you can then ask more specific questions. I imagine when you first get to a tournament you ask your buddies very broad questions and after a few days of prefishing maybe you have dialed in location but maybe you aren't getting the bites. Then maybe you ask your buddy some specific questions

    Black, watermelon and green pumpkin are literally the only color worms you ever need. Only thing I would disagree with is really clear water line size will make a difference and with colors with baits off the bottom, I’ve personally seen it with people fish on the front of the boat with me bc we tested it

    ill take it even further. you say that about color. in wondering if even soft plastic baits matter that much. i feel like you could throw a dang senko weightless, weighted, swim it, Carolina rig whatever and it'll catch all the same fish a creature bait or craw will. if you put it in front of the fish.

  • @UnrivaledGoat

    I think a lot of ppp are just looking for the only answers they know to look for. If all they think matters is depth, baits and colors, then that’s all they’re going to try to change to get more bites.

    • @formatr6
      @formatr6 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@gamingdreams2142 for sure they did. but they are local guys that really haven't won anything at the PRO AM level or anything other than Clearlake/motherlode/delta. Todd is on another level fishing Nationally and with many AOY titles. Don't get me wrong they catch em good, just not the same when you're on the tournament clock

    • @qooch481
      @qooch481 5 месяцев назад +1

      saying tim and matt have little tournament experience is insane
      that being said, they make videos solely for the purpose of making you buy a new rod setup and a bunch of expensive baits. sure you can get an idea of how to use a technique, but I agree it's not about tournament fishing at all.

    • @formatr6
      @formatr6 5 месяцев назад

      @@qooch481 They have local team / club experience for sure. Thats totally different that a regional level Pro am where your partners are random. They are great at what they do, but what Todd is talking about is exactly in line with what I'm saying. Pro Fisherman think differnlty than guides/bait slingers

    From my experience in shallow water color does matter and deep water it doesn’t. The bait fish don’t change colors in muddy or deep water so I stay away from black blue. It’s the most overrated color in bass fishing. Natural colors is all I fish.
