- Japan is already devastated by the war when a new crisis emerges in the form of a giant monster, but was Godzilla Minus One as good as THEY say it was?
-----------
PLOT
-----------
Feeling as if he unfairly cheated death too many times, Shikishima, a surviving Kamikaze pilot is attacked on Odo Island along with many war plane engineers by a gargantuan monster. After the engineers die due to Shikishima failing to distract the monster, an overwhelming amount of guilt weighs on him, especially after a homeless woman and a baby move into his home when he returns. Shikishima, now on a personal mission, teams up with a large group of veterans to finally take down the monster known as Godzilla.
Godzilla Minus One is written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki and marks the 70 year anniversary of the franchise.

Well stated. I saw this movie twice in 3 days. Magnificent. A great human story first. Godzilla portrayed perfectly.
It makes you fall in love with going to the movies again
I loved the Godzilla in this film .. for the first 2/3. The Godzilla at the end was toothless. He didn't even scratch a single ship attacking him. The ending was weak.

The starting salary for a university graduate at SHIROGUMI, the production studio for G-1.0 is 250,000 yen, which includes 50 hours worth of overtime pay. This is one of the higher salaries for CG studios in Japan. I believe this is low by international standards.
Also, in the animation industry, it is common for young animators to earn 3 million yen a year while working every single day. I do not think this means they are treated well.
Recently, there was a controversial strike in Hollywood, but in Japan, entertainment agencies have so much power that it is difficult for actors to even have a strike.
Just that fact alone that you actually care for the characters safety in a Godzilla movie was remarkable, also loved the setting and time period they chose. Like a nightmare scenario for our heroes. If the result of the war isn’t bad enough they now have to face the one and only Godzilla 😅
I was marveling at the set pieces they had going on in this as well. The filmmakers of Minus One truly did care to get this right.
The world needs godzilla
Pump his atomic breath straight into my veins
Go see this movie in the theater! Gonna go the second time next week!
Yes! You're screens at home will not do this movie justice!
@@CopaExMachina not just that, rather go support a great movie, encourage Toho to continue their amazing job!
Movie of the YEAR for me, as you know. I am so glad it has been a success overseas too. It finally opens in the UK this coming Friday and I'm sure it will do well there, too.
Excellent video, Copa. I'll see you later on your yacht.
My yacht is in the wake of your yacht. Cheers and saluti!
I was not expecting the classic "wow winning" clip.
Carlos Estévez is a great and quotable man.
Note that it’s not released in China, India and Russia! It’s still rocking the Box Office without top 3 markets in the world.
Very true and it still has the UK, Ireland, Spain, Brazil, and Mexico to go
Godzilla Minus One is the unofficial sequel to Oppenheimer.
It's interesting to me that not a lot of people realize that.
Oppenheimer is a movie about the atom bomb test. Minus One takes place directly after the bomb was dropped on Japan.
Does that mean that Oppenheimer 'fathered' TWO atomic weapons.
One mechanical and one of flesh?
🤣What was Nolan not telling us?
Great work talking about your atomic monster. I loved this movie. Character development. CGI. Everything was beautiful just like your shiny head.
Boy that 15 million would only cover the catering cost for a Hollywood movie. 😂😂😂
LOL! Hollywood catering check: true
Humanity has pretty much been stripped completely from Hollywood.
Yup, replaced with marketing firms and interest councils and DEI and Twitter junkies
IT IS A MASTERPIECE, HANDS DOWN!
Not going to find an argument from me here.
I can’t wait to see this. One of the few retro reboots that looks worth my time.
Minus One does not waste a moment of your time or money.
I absolutely loved this movie and it’s the first Godzilla movie I’ve seen that I think deserves an Oscar
I have seen maybe 10-15 Godzilla movies, this is by far the best one. It will get a an Oscar or two, for sure.
Director Yamazaki made a statement that the budgets for Shin Godzilla and MINUS ONE are not much different.
And from what I've heard from Toho officials, it sounds like the budget for Shin Godzilla includes the cost of publicity.
Yeah, I read the article where the director stated the budget was more like $10m, so I figured the extra $5m was marketing costs. It's unbelievable.
Japan 🇯🇵 the ironic Hero of the year …
Showing the West, like they did in the 80s, how dumb they are- One Piece at a time.
Keep Writing with Salt, friend.
Thanks bro
Asian production did more with less budget than all marvel/Hollywood Godzilla movies combined. You actually,.....cared about the humans.
Not a dollar wasted and it shows with Minus One. The filmmakers knew where exactly to focus, on the humanity.
This movie is a breath of fresh air!!!! ♥️🤗♥️
It really was. What was your favorite part?
This was one of the best cinematic experiences for me. One scene in particular will always stand out to me. This movie is easily my favorite movie this year and that is saying a lot considering Super Mario Bros came out.
It makes you fall in love with going to the movies again
Great review of a great movie!
BLAIR! Thank you sir. It was a fun ride of a movie
You're popping off, Copa 🔥🔥🔥
LET ME COOK! 🙏
Loved it!!!
🔥
Copa doesnt hold back i love it. Excellent video
Thank you bro!
SKREEEEE-OOOOOONK!
Would you like a breath mint?
This film's not a sequel to Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer's not even a part of the Godzilla franchise. Minus One is a standalone Godzilla film. Thanks. Anyway, I've always held the belief that the original film was the best in the franchise not because it was the progenitor, but because it was a good all around film. Great acting. Great writing. Great music. Great cinematography. Etc. An all around great experience with a powerful message and themes built into it. As the years have gone on (specifically with the Monsterverse) that kind of vision has been lost and replaced by "we need him to look cooler so we can sell more toys!" Seriously. Nobody can look at the new form for Godzilla in The New Empire and tell me they didn't make that form just for the sake of selling more toys. It has no narrative purpose or meaning. It's just there to make Godzilla "stronger" and make him look cooler so they can sell toys. Minus One does what only the original did so well by being a great all around film in addition to having Godzilla in it as the primary antagonist. This is what Godzilla is meant to be. Who he's meant to be. And the way he's meant to be perceived. All this Marvel-ization of Godzilla in the Monsterverse needs to stop. It's brainless B-Movie nonsense disguised as "Hollywood Blockbuster" filmmaking, and it all lacks any sense of soul or reverence for the origins and purpose of Godzilla as a cultural and historical cinematic icon.
It's not a sequel to Oppenheimer? Why would Nolan say it was?
I've never wanted to be T-bagged by a lizard so badly
Protect your power plant when it happens
Bro how do your reviews keep a smile on my face the entire time.
It's not me, it's the drugs I project through the screen
😊 Great movie, ❤it
Favorite part?
Hey! That's Ben from Agents of Shield!
Award winning role of...Ben
@@CopaExMachina the role he was born to play
Best movie of the year
I am not going to dispute that at all.
Great review!!!
Thank you 🙏
I will be waiting till the last moment to go watch it. I need to be the only one inside the showing room. I need to be cursing Godzilla out, that is my type of love I have for it. I do not want to make other people mad so I need to be alone with Godzilla. Hahahahaha
I suspect you're going to be waiting awhile for the theaters to clear out to see this one LOL. But you will love it when you do you get that 1 on 1 with Godzilla.
Big scaly balls😂😂😂
🤣🤣
I think your commentary on the writers and actor’s strikes are frankly obtuse and not worth their utterance. Granted Godzilla is the best movie of the year
Seeing that I am an Hollywood industry veteran I would love for you to school me on the subject.
@@CopaExMachina I love how normies think anyone in Hollywood deserve a living wage LOL
Can't wait to see this!
Highly recommend it
My god theres shit all over the walls 😂
LOL
I love me some Gojira!! Also congrats on the view count bro! See ya around 👍
I appreciate it, thank you!
You meant Japan puts American entertainment to shame ?
That is exactly what I meant.
@@CopaExMachinawasn't Oppenheimer American?
Great review my friend!!! I thought this movie was outstanding and he definitely was a “Dick of a Lizard” Also… my kid watched Wall-E on repeat when she was little 🤣
Wall-E was so good, don't let anyone tell her different
No DEI or ESG wanted or needed!!!!
Bingo! 🎯
You and Space Ice
Huge compliment thank you. Space Ice is awesome.
2:00 *69.
It’s supposed to be the funny number but they skipped it due to obvious reasons and are just going to make it 70 for 2 years.
69 dude!
@@CopaExMachina Ikr! Tha funny number!
"They don't deserve a living wage"
Well, that's the American mentality right there.
Writer who makes 6 figures minimum: "We demand a living wage!"
You: "I feel bad for you working so far above the poverty line you can afford to keep the lights on with 1 job a year."
I know who's not gonna go see Godzilla X Kong whereas most people like me that like that and Minus One will. Y'alls loss I like more than one Godzilla available
I think people aren't going to se Godzilla x Kong because the first one was so bad. But, I hope you enjoy the ride
I definitely saw a different movie to you. What I saw was too many humans (again), hammy overacting & terrible visual effects. If you think the western Godzilla vs Kong movies are bad, just watch this, they are masterpieces by comparison
I am sorry you didn't enjoy it. I thought it was a spectacular piece of monster cinema
But there was barely any ‘monster’ in it. I think the Minus One subtitle is referring to the amount of minutes you get to see Godzilla for. The terrible Hollywood versions seem to think we want to see how the monsters affect the humans, so we get loads of exposition on the ‘human toll’. This suffered from that issue even more so. I personally have zero interest in how people are affected. I was expecting a monster movie, instead I got a war drama
Western civilization has fallen. Our film and tv has gotten so bad that Mexican soap operas want to give us a hug and slip five bucks into our pocket.
LOL I read this is Leslie Nelson's voice and it is perfect.
@@CopaExMachina Ha! Good shout. Alan Rickman's voice works too.
Oppenheimer isn't from the west?
Director Yamazaki confirmed that the budget was actually less than $15 million. Also, this film's low budget size is due to our country's culture of underpaying creators. It is not something to be proud of.
Yup and the director also quote 'I wish it were that much' in his sad tone during his interview said it all. Could you imagine If he did have that much, how more amazing things he could done to the Movie...
"Also, this film's low budget size is due to our country's culture of underpaying creators." I have talked to Japanese creators who've disputed this claim. What do you know that they don't?
was ok movie the best no too much human story not enough godzilla some seem weak godzilla who takes hits at his size
Did you like Shin-Godzilla?
Not dubbed? No thanks
Dubs, but they are in Italian.
Your Loss.
@@CopaExMachina a fate worse than death
Get Gator to read the subs for you, you'll be fine!
Funny that you say this. I wish I had a cinema nearby with the subbed version because dubbed always is lacking.
Update when ask for budget confirmation of 15 million the director said he wished he had 15,000,000 to work with for the movie 😮😮😮.
Hollyweird money laundering but the fbi to busy with orange man jesus
At the time of recording this is when the news broke that the director admitted it was more like a $10m budget while is INSANE!
