This was easily the best Godzilla movie I have ever seen and I'd go as far to say the greatest monster movie of all time. The themes were absolutely fantastic and I especially loved the found family of Koichi, Noriko, and Akiko which was the heart of the movie

Im pretty sure the budget was actually 10 million. When asked about the 15 million dollar budget Yamazaki said that he wished it was that much and that it was closer to 10.

Godzilla's attacking the train in Ginza and the reporters broadcasting from the top of a building are both throwbacks to the original 1954 film, which contains versions of both of those scenes. The train attack itself also pays homage to the original 1933 "King Kong" where Kong destroys a subway train in New York City.
Godzilla is slow and lumbering in most of his films because the suitmation actor has to deal with a costume that weighs around 100 pounds, and in some cases over 200 pounds.

I also thought they were saluting Shikishima, but after watching this, yeah, they were saluting an enemy as it goes down, like a battle well fought against another warship.

In addition a tip on top of your thoughtful content, The reason why Godzilla's behavior is unnatural.
(In the first place, Godzilla's existence exceeds the rules of physics and biology. That's why people are afraid of Godzilla.)
Godzilla is TATARIGAMI as mention Takashi Yamazaki in a interview, TATARIGAMI is a spirit (high-dimensional being) that continued to be feared even after it died a violent death as a human. There is also a theory that he is the incarnation of a heroic spirit who died during WW2. (TATARIGAMI is also depicted in Ghibli's Princess Mononoke. The black stain is common in both films.) Although TATARIGAMI is a wild spirit and is feared and shunned, if it is carefully enshrined, it can become a powerful guardian deity. They are the gods that are worshiped.
How would you describe the existence between God and living things as follows? The director and CG artists spent more than six months developing Godzilla's walking style.

One of my favorite thing was the shots of the people looking at godzilla whether it be when he dies or destroyed the battleship. They cut to the people first and for maybe a little longer than u think they stay on them, filming their reaction or faces. If you put the atomic bomb in godzillas spot qhen they do this, it really just drives home what godzilla was created for. They look as if they are watching the bomb hit hiroshima.

I'd even argue the best explosion and aftermath of any film period.
Oppenheimer was pretty good, but Godzillas blast in Ginza made me audibly go "no fucking way" in the theater.
Not even disaster movies pull off that level of tension and feel of despair.

Going to see it on Friday so buzzing to see it at my local cinema (my mum doesn't want to see it but then again me and my mum have got unlimited cards for our local cinema) Hollywood take note you don't need big budget films to break even Hollywood WISHES they could make a film this good at even 1/2 of their budget and still make a profit (even the director Takashi Yamazaki even said he wished the budget was $15m)

Reason being it’s clear that the Cinematography by Hoyte van Hoytema is soo good, the minor VFX really shouldn’t take an award for it. People ultimately realize this, because the real deal is the Oscar for HvH!

Godzilla finally has even footing with his colleague Kong whose 1933 film(35 cent ticket, took time with no TV & Internet) put him INSIDE our soul. Minus one is the Godzilla more than a monster movie soul saving turn we need today as King Kong was needed back then ❤. Think about what happen after WWII, we rebuilt it instead of enslave it as the United States could have. Minus one is to prevent WWIII esp. internationally(quicker with TV and Internet) because with Nukes there will be nothing to rebuild 🎉 ? Pgfsw

I gotta disagree I think a more nimble Godzilla would of been way more scary. The opening scene teases us of what could of been with him attacking the mechanics in his orginal form and to me was the best action scene in the movie. In his final form their are a lot of bad shots of Godzilla motionless like somebody took an action figure and filmed it. I was excited at the prospect of a Godzilla that moved differently than in any of his previous films but instead it was the same old stiff Godzilla.

So, If you guys grew up on Kung Fu movies, any chance of a Kung Fu episode of the Podcast? Where did you come into Kung Fu movies, and how did you go about discovering them? Who did you like? Who was your guy? Which movies made an impression on you? Where were Hong Kong action flicks back then and where are they now? What have they becomes? Who are the milestones of these films? Where would we be without Bruce Lee? Do people appreciate the choreographer as much as the performer? Everyone needs to know Yuen Wo Ping. If someone is interested in getting into Kung Fu movies, which 5 flicks do you feel would give them an enjoyable and entertaining start, leaving them wanting more?
