- Welcome to the Craft Beer Channel!
Our first ever feature-length documentary simply HAD to be in New England. No other region has had more of an impact on the brewing scene in the last decade, but we wanted to cut through the hype and meet the people, see the places and try the beers behind the New England IPA. What we discovered was not just a recent revolution - but another one about to hit.
Join Jonny and the Brad as they roadtrip around one of the most exciting brewing scenes in the world, taking in Allagash, The Alchemist, FOAM brewers, Bissell Brothers and Notch and interviewing the key people behind it all.

Hey everyone - me and Brad just wanna say HUGE thanks to everyone who has posted. We've been blown away by the kind words and positive comments. This was a massive project for us and a big risk to invest so much time. But it was so worth it to see all these comments.
We want to shoot more of these big features, but to do so we need more people to sign up to our PATREON! In return for a few dollars, you get cool merch and your name on every video. You can sign up right here: patreon.com/craftbeerchannel
Want a part 2 to this! Loved watching it for a second time :)
As a native of New England (Maine, VT, CT) I'm glad you guys got to enjoy the history and beauty of our little corner of the world!!!
This was an excellent production. As a New Englander, I have been to all of these breweries in this documentary. I love their beer but had no idea on their efforts to reduce waste and our carbon footprint. Thank you for capturing this. Looking forward to watching another production of yours. When you come back to New England, hit Connecticut. We have some amazing breweries, New Park, Counter Weight, Fox Farm and many more.
Don't forget Back East Brewing too.
Matt at Counterweight and Rob at NEBCO are some of the best people!!
I am absolutely floored by how well this documentary was made, really well done something I would expect to see on a premium network.
As a resident of New England and having spent most of my life here I have been to many of the breweries and tap rooms you visited but never really knew their stories and watching this has me planning a summer beer tour to revisit my favorites and discover new favorites.
As a home brewer I truly appreciate the craftsmanship and dedication the local breweries put into every can, bottle and pint but as a beer lover I love the experience and atmosphere of the locations.
Allagash white is probably the beer that first made me want to brew. I was on vacation and visiting friends at the same time a couple from Maine were visiting and they both worked at allagash sitting by the fireside drinking the white and hearing them talk about the process is what inspired me to start brewing, so happy to see them featured here and heady topper is just a source of local pride for new Englanders.
Thank you for making this documentary and re introducing me to the places in my backyard. Cheers
Glad you had fun visiting my home, New England. Come back soon. Allagash is my favorite brewery
The karaoke was lit. And those cubes and waste “water” from Alchemist... just brilliant.
John Kimmich is the man!
How am I only watching the second half now?! Damn Jonny killed it on the karaoke! What a voice!! 😂 fucking great documentary guys I love it (yes I know Im late on this train)
Haha thanks Peter! Better late than never!
Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to do this. We, in India are now where the craft brewing scene and breweries were 20-25 years ago. I had the opportunity to visit Maine and MA and try out some fantastic beers (including a stop at Allagash) . There's a goodbit to learn here and I truly enjoyed watching this.
NEW ENGLAND BABY!!! Wicked video! Keep em coming!! We should have you on our NEW ENGLAND show one of these days!
WoW, what a nice documentary! Thnx for taking me 'with you' on a journey.
Best beer doc of all time
BRAVO! BRAVO! Im not sure how/why it took me so long to find/watch this, but so glad I did. To see you visiting places in my backyard, with people I actually know (Carla Jean and Chris Lohring), experiencing the queue/standing in line (which I dont do), and the New England perspective. Great work. Hope you come back again sometime. I just had to leave a comment. Cheers!
I went to a small college near hill farmstead. expensive beer for a college student but would make occasional trips. the first time i had the the Everett porter i was blown away. Amazing balance of sweet, chocolaty, coffee/toffee flavors balanced by a subtle grassiness.
Oh man the intro is just so freaking amazing! The music, the cuts, the typography placement. Love it!!
Brad did an awesome job there that's for sure
Fantastic, fantastic, brewery Journal. Thanks
I really had to chuckle when you were talking to the guy from Notch. He said that New England IPAs are what everyone does, and it is refreshing to have a Czech-/German-style Lager. This is the polar opposite of what I am used to. I grew up drinking Helles and Märzen on the Austrian countryside, it is what I am used to and have been drinking for my whole life. A few weeks ago I tried my first New England IPA after watching some of your videos, I was as excited as a young puppy and blown away by the aroma and flavor and juiciness I never thought was possible in beer. I cannot imagine growing tired of something so exciting and perceiving good old lager as something new and fascinating. This showed me that the place where you grow up strongly influences your views on beer and what is exciting and what is normal to you.
Ha indeed! lots of Americans would say they can't imagine getting bored of great pils!
@@TheCraftBeerChannel And also British bitter is something very exciting for me, I believe I've had only two different ones so far (London Pride and Thornbridge Lord Marples)
Great work! As a born and raised New Englander, I can attest to how authentically and beautifully you represented the area. Glad y'all had a good time
Thanks so much! Great to hear from a local.
Glad I finally took the time to watch this masterpiece after checking out many of your videos. Really quality work. Entertaining, informative, and just passionate people talking about what they love to do.
So, when are you coming to the West coast Portland? No shortage of fine breweries here. Cheers!
Thanks so much Kevin! We really want to come to the west coast again, especially portland. Will have to see how COVID goes...
Great doc! You guys have an awesome perspective on beer in the states. PLEASE keep coming back and making these kinds of vids
Awesome video!! The detail, the quality of interviews, the music, the editing...all top-notch!! Thanks for the time and effort put into this to share about the NE beer scene!!
Great video, come back soon! This a great time for craft beer in New England and pretty much everywhere
Awesome video! I have been blessed to grow up in New England and enjoy all of these great breweries. Cheers!
So good. Loved watching it. Quite informative too. Brilliant work guys! Waiting for many more.
I've watched this about 20 times.
Really cool documentary gentlemen! It was well shot & well produced with a lot of great interviewing and incite into the New England scene. I look forward to more of these in the future... cheers!!
What I really liked about this was you let the brewers talk. And you were excellent listeners. And I speak as someone who is a subscriber (in Hong Kong) and normally I'm here to hear YOU guys speak, to share your expertise. But as a journalist, sometimes (most times) it's best to let the players say their piece. And you guys shined with that over an hour plus. And it was because the brewers had a great story to tell.
Wow! What a journey. I felt like i was watching Michelangelo or Bach or Renoir speaking. The passion, and the opinions, were intense. John was my favorite. It almost felt like a lecture from a professor
Great documentary, having lived in Burlington VT you captured the beauty of the beer and place really well
Thanks so much Oliver! What a place you get to live!
Great video! Living in Massachusetts, I’ve always wanted to visit Notch but never got around to it. I will have to make a point to do so as well as visit the other great breweries in New England. Thanks for the inspiration!
Amazing film....For someone who will never have the change too go.
Thank you beer blokes! I've made the NE beer rounds a few times over the past 4 years and it's so refreshing to watch others make the trip and not only experience the same joy but to hear/see/discover things I hadn't. Cheers!
Only an American would use the term 'bloke' out of context. Nice try.
Fantastic fantastic brewery journal! Thanks!!
This was an awesome video.
It was great to see the different breweries that brew the new england style ipa but at the sametime it wasnt just about that. You guys went to show that there is a lot more going on with beer in the new england area than just that style.
So awesome to see your journey. Cheers!!
Great video. Glad you like our beer. Allagash is king. I love Belgian style beer especially their stuff. So happy to support them
I live in new england been here my entire life the beer in this area is great the micro brewery business is great you can take day trips and enjoy beers from all over new england
Epic video guys, well done!
Just found out my best friend in the world has cancer so I’ve come to have a beer and watch this for about the 6th time, it’s helping. Thanks brothers 👊
Chad I am glad this helps and so sorry to hear the news. All the best to you and your friend - we will raise a glass to his recovery.
Not a beer guy at all. I'll stick with my whiskey but I'm so glad the algorithm sent me this video. Well made, informative, fun. Props to the channel.
Was looking for the New England stuff for ages before I realised you had done a feature length docu! Okay that's me sorted for the next hour. Awesome content lads, cheers!
Finally had the time to see this, great Work :)
Thanks CBC for this wonderful and informative video. I enjoyed watching the full video without forwarding for a seconds and keep up doing the great job.
Thanks so much Sandeep!
Stunning. That was cinematic visual gorgeousness at its best. And years later you're both still making high quality content. Love 'n beer!
Such an awesome video. Fascinating to see how companies form around such a passion for new and interesting beer. Great editing too, and I like both Brad & Jonny doing the commentary.
VO is tricky for Brad as he is Dyslexic but he did a TOP job.
This was a great show fellas! I loved the format.
Great job guys! Loved it. Please make more.
Fantastic doc guys. Come back soon, many more outstanding breweries in NE to visit and do a part 2
You guys sure thing worked hard for this,u will still say it ,YOU LUCKY BUSTARDS!! well done ,u hope one day I'll visit them, not to mention,go to England and pub crawl in London! Cheers
bloody amazing just getting into IPAs and I love your work. keep on smashing out the good.
Loved everything about this! Great work guys
Great job on the video. Nicely paced. Now I gotta go visit more New England breweries.
This is the most epic beer trip ever! Sorry I just missed you at Omnipollo’s church.
I had fallen out of my love for craft beer but after watching this doc, Im back on the wagon.. the attention to detail from these brewers is seriously impressive. It really is a labor of love in every can. Also, great job showcasing the beauty of New England
This is so great to here! I think we all get a bit jaded about beer every now and then, and a great story or amazing beer reels us back in.
Good video! If you ever come back towards New Hampshire, we have dozens of small places that can give any of those breweries a run for their money.
Great doc guys. Best hour and a bit I've spent on YT for a long time.
So good to hear!
Excellent documentary - we spent some time in Burlington a few years ago and was lucky enough to go to Alchemist (and foam) then and this just makes me want to go back!
Inspirational stuff! Love it!
This was awesome! Finally watched it after watching so many of your other videos. Really enjoyable and informative.
Cheers Marcus! One of the best things we have done I think!
Absolutely loved this !!
This is brilliant!
Well done guys 👍
"liked" before even watching in it's entirety. keep killing it dudes..
This is great! Love a NEIPA and nice to find out more straight from the source.
Absolutely phenomenal boys. Well done and sláinte
Loved this one. Great job guys.
Round of applause to you both on this video. Came across it today and watched it transfixed to the screen. Genuinely one of the best beer documentary-style videos out there on RUclips. America looks so good for beer, especially the area you visited.
Look forward to seeing more videos of this calibre soon.
Thanks so much! We are in the process of planning the next documentary. Will hopefully be out late summer or autumn.
@@TheCraftBeerChannel Excellent news will look forward to watching that then when it comes out.
So well done! 🙌
Watched this video when it came out, have to watch it again because it's so great. It Just has such a great story and wow pictures!
Thanks so much! Sometimes I end up rewatching it too - we had such a great time.
This film was awesome! Went on a little pilgrimage up to Vermont earlier this year but with restrictions we couldn’t tour or go to a taproom on site but getting the beers from the source was an experience! Can’t wait to revisit lawsons and alchemist as well as the others you guys covered here!
Love this!
Wonderful documentary guys! I've enjoyed it!
Amazing video, particularly considering it’s your first effort in this kind of format. I’m not really a NEIPA kind of guy but you guys sure know how to make it appealing, to the point that you’re making me consider a similar road(beer, really)trip to NE,
Congratulations this is incredible!
What John said is so true.
I find that at the moment NE, WC or classic IPA all are starting to taste the same and not in a good way. And the NE IPAs have for sure lost that refreshing feeling.
There are still great brewers out there but being in Europe these days they seem to be fading away and being replaced by hazy swill that tastes of nothing.
Ether way this video does make me want to get back to the search and revived my interest in beers.
Thank you for making this - great portrait of the region!
Thanks Jan glad you like it!
My god guys. I went to school at UVM in Burlington and I teared up when you walked out on frozen Lake Champlain. I have many fond memories wondering around on that lake and many of nights over a pint at all the great brew pubs and bars. Thank you.
What a great place that must have been yo go to school!
This was an absolutely phenomenal video. Well done, fellas.
Still watching this one. Since my initial comment after finding this videos, I've become a professional Brewer at a pretty big place in Colorado. I STILL go back and watch this video. Your channel inspired me to leave what I hated and do what I wanted. And Allagash white is still winning gold medals, hahaha
Amazing video, congratulations!
Shame I missed you guys in St Pete, but I recently went to Burlington last year and you guys have brought back lots of memories. I want Foam right now! This doc is really good and high quality. Can't wait for the Florida one. Cheers! 🍺
Great doc!
Best video yet. Well done, that was excellently put together and has made me want to jump on a plane to New England.
Cheers! The whole aim was to encourage people to visit these amazing places so glad that came across.
Exceptional. What an enjoyable program. Professionally made and worthy of a bigger stage (BBC or CH4). Thanks
Thanks so much for the kind words! Hopefully one day....
wow great video, well done guys and hopefully one day I can do this road trip as well cheers
Great doc. Cool to see that I've been to a handful of these breweries. Heading up to Maine again on Saturday so I'll have to hit a few more.
Lucky you! Wish we could go back so soon.
Great stuff. Cheers!
Great video. Loved the scenery. And that guy from Notch seemed really cool.
Also, great vocal skills there Johnny
Haha thanks! Been building up my whole amateur kareoke career for that moment.
That was amazing guys!!! Well done, and thank you making this for us!!
Haha yep definitely all for you guys. We didnt enjoy that trip at allllllll!
@@TheCraftBeerChannel Well good! I would have been disgusted if you guys had actually enjoyed it! ;) Any chance of you guys coming over to the Netherlands this year? Maybe Borefts, at De Molen?
Well done guys😎
Wowser. Great Documentary guys. So so good. Keep these coming. So informative. 👍🏻👍🏻
Hoping to make another this year.

Wish we could come and watch it live with you guys, but unfortunately it's slightly too far :)
Have a great evening, schol!
Brilliant work lads really enjoyed it your come a long way since i first started watching your channel ( maybe 3 years) f.y.i enjoyed a doppelbock while watching 😀
Haha - Carla will be delighted!
Wow... What a well produced and genuinely personal film this is. So eye opening. As Brad says... Might need to make a trip out there to taste it for myself!
Cheers! Highly recommend a similar road trip. One of my life highlights
Well done.
Great Video Fellas 👍✌️😎
2nd time watching this and it's still brilliant, looking forward to your next feature-length doc!
Thanks Alex! As soon as we can travel again we're doing it!
@@TheCraftBeerChannel Well if the Australian beer scene ever tempts you, let's just say you've got friends out here!
Awesome documentary. Great job and thank you.
Thanks so much!
Good stuff - cheers
Loved it!
Awesome. Love CBC 🍻🍻🙌🙌
Superb video (as usual!) I've learnt so much from your channel. Keep up the amazing work ❤️🤟🍺😉
I've just watched the whole video again. This has to be the best craft beer video/documentary I've ever seen. A proper look into brewing culture and New England style. Personally I'm with John Kimmich, I'm sick of hop burn, out of balance neipa with no bitterness. 🍺🤟🍺🤟🍺🤟
great stuff
