"Those are all the details on the new stumpy so let's jump on over and see how it rides," *pauses for effect* ....Great video guys, can't wait to see the roundtable discussion and how the bikes compare
I'm floating around You Tube and found the info I needed HERE to Zero in on a new MTB Trail Bike. I ended up with a StumpJumper Carbon basic build @4G's. These reviews solidified the deal as I was able to buy locally after considering mail order.Just don't want to wait 2 to 3 weeks! I rode yesterday already .........!
The sizing is a BIG DEAL. a BIG deal. I'm stumped why everyone is buying bikes that are too large for them. At 6ft I buy med frame size. They want me to buy large, but they simply are NOT playful enough. But now, under Specialized, I can buy a mid-med frame size. three HUGE thumbs up!!
Is an s-works build really relevant? I'd like to see a more representative build that reflects consumer interest. Reviewing the top spec model feels like it's more about promoting the brand than looking at what most customers will buy. I like PB because I've always felt that PB is more about riders than manufacturers. Testing top spec bikes feels like an affront to that.
@@dundundata7603 I get what your saying, but let me put it to you this way, to what extent would a BMW M3 review be relevant to a 320d? Sure, the touch points, HVAC, boot space etc will be the same, but how comparable is the driving experience? If you have ever changed your bike's wheels, or even just the tyres, or gone from tubed to tubeless, you'll know how big a difference there is in the riding experience. So, comparing two bikes with the same architecture, but different suspension, cockpit, grips, saddle, tyres, wheels; it then becomes extremely difficult to see what is actually relevant. But then again, that is why manufacturers want magazines to test the top of the range, because we as consumers will erroneously assume that what makes the top of the range great will also be applicable to lower models in the range. My original comment about the s-works and its relevance are as simple as me thinking; that's outside my budget, I don't know to what extent this review represents the model that is within my budget, therefore I can't use this review to compare a lower tier model with a competitor.
Would love a review of this quality with a model stumpy that has a more realistic price range. The alloy at 2200 is not cheap but at least it's a possibility.
I've demoed a few different model years of the Stumpjumper, and it's always felt like am incredible bike! I can just forget it's under me, like I'm flying.
These days I'd rather be underbiked for the 10% of the time I'm on extreme terrain, than be overbiked for the 90% of the time I am on regular trails. Sign me up for efficient, shorter travel trail bikes!
I used to over bike to get the performance the new bikes get with big wheels and less but better travel . I’m on a 160mm 26” Kona Abracadabra 2013 model. 29” wheels and 130mm travel is more capable these days .
It's very well said. I own the carbon comp model and it's extremely capable. It's an awesome descending bike that climb super fast all what I want and need. Well done Specialized!!
Can I ask what you weigh and if you added any volume spacers? I'm 210 and the fact this little guy is 150lbs (which seems to be who these bikes are typically built for) I'm a little concerned about how the bike will perform for folks in the taller/heavier weight categories.
@@konos3951 I am 75kg (whatever that is in pounds) I added 2 tokens in the fork and changed the yellow for a orange in the rear shock. Loved it! I have the same in 36 on another bike and it's the best fork I ever owned!
I've recently bought a comp. It's my first 29er and I must say it's a great bike. I came from a Cannondale Prophet which is also a great piece of kit. The one negative of the Specialized compared to the Cannondale is the weight climbing, it's slow and that's with lighter wheels. I've also extended the fork travel and put the largest volume reducer into the shock for more support which is brilliant, feel like I'm getting more travel. Overall a decent bike.
I have the carbon comp with a set of Elitewheels pro 36 wheels. Ground control and Fast trak tyres and it comes to 13.1 Kg including pedals. The heaviest part is definitly the Rhythm 34 grip fork. What does yourbike weight?

Has Speshy's game ever been so universally on-point? Every MTB they've released recently has been a complete slam-dunk not only on looks and performance but also on value relative to the competition. And it's not even just the MTBs, they are also killing it in the roadie world right now, too. I'd be really curious to hear how the alloy versions of the new Stumpy compare to the carbon ones. Does the retention of the Horst link change the narrative on how this bike rides?
Thank you for the great review. The S-Works is lighter and handles different than the heavier bikes. Most intermediate riders won't feel the difference. Save the cash and buy the lightest model you can afford. I have had 2 and 3rd on order. Great bikes and they are awesome on singletrack in NC.
