i never really comment on youtube, but had to for this video alone. I purchased 1000ft cat 6 uft solid strand at a great price. I got the plugs, boots, crimper, snipper, network rj45 checker, everything...and couldnt make a damn good wire. Then i saw your videos and saw which way to put the guide and bingo! no more bum wires. Thanks so much for explaining, noone else explained it as much as you did. excellent.

One thing you did not show is the side of the CAT-5 and CAT-6 plugs. Look at the side of each plug, and you will see a BIG difference between the two. On a CAT-6 plug the outer sheath of the cable can come much closer to the gold pins.
When you look, you will see the difference without any problem.
    I thought this might help.
Nice video you did on the plugs.

I have looked everywhere on the net and your video clearing shows the difference between Cat6 and Cat5. I recently purchased 3 cables from 3 sellers on ebay, and it reads on the cable cat6. The cables did not have staggered wires so, I returned the cable. I have read that the size of the wire requires them to be staggered, but I have not found any clear photos showing how they are staggered except for your video. Nice job!

After watching 8 other video's that only showed how to crimp a connector to a cable, this one finally answered all my questions and then some.
    Thanks!

Glad to have stumbled upon this. Didn't realize my network was not getting gigabyte speeds until yesterday when my new switch came in. So had to go to lowes and grab some cat 6. They didn't have any cat 6 heads so I went with 5e. Cable tester showed my cable was fine but modem told me there were issues. Tried a few more. Then was like you know what let me get some proper cat 6 heads. Your video did help explain some differences i was looking for. Appreciate it.

Cat 5e can pass 250mbps but there are a lot of knock off cables out there that don't use copper so that may have been the issue

Thank you for the video, learned a lot. For more than 15 years, I have had a disgust in stranded or 'soft core' cable. The latter almost always seems to 'deteriorate' the connection. Never mind using the correct plugs. I prefer soft 'stranded' and hardcore not be mixed.

Thank you for making this video. I just got done running a CAT6 cable to my workstation, and had the option to use CAT6 RJ45 plugs on it, but opted for CAT5e because it was $10 cheaper, with boots. While it's working fine, after seeing this video, I may want to return those plugs, and get the proper CAT6 plugs, just in case I have issues down the line.

I have read CAT 6 is ok with 24AWG if it meets the specifications and therefore you won't have staggering. It is only where the manufacturer has used thicker cores to meet the specification that the core diameter requires staggering.

    • @GegoXaren
      @GegoXaren 7 лет назад

Nice video. I just bought a new router (Asus TUF-AX5400, manufactured 2021) and it came with an anonymous unlabeled black LAN-cable (well, the only text was on the connector where it had an "eje" logo, and it said "L5" on the little tab) and trying to guess if it's cat6 or they cheaped out with cat5. The pins do look all flat, not seeing any "high-low connectors" so I'll assume it's cat5.

Wondering if you can confirm for me that my cables are infact proper Cat6 and right for the job.
The cable is 50feet long, says Cat 6 on it, but is a flat wire and not staggered. Is that truly a Cat 6 and is it the right cable for the job of connecting two Google Wifi hubs together or for sending data to (or streaming from) my network to a My Cloud PR2100 storage drive? It's because you mentioned Flat is for Medical, that got me questioning it.

Tried about 50 times but whenever I push the 8 wires in I end up with 2 in the same channel at some position, on top of each other. It doesn't look or feel like there are defined "holes" inside the plug to hold them in place.
Then the crimper doesn't seem to split the ends! When I pulled them out the insulation on all 8 wires was still completely solid.
Think I'm going to go for an ethernet socket then use a purchased short cable to connect it to my hub, because I've just lost 3 hours trying to get ONE RJ45 plug on and failed.
