Wood Turning a Salt Cellar From Mahogany

After watching too many J. Kenji Lopez-Alt videos and seeing how handy his salt cellar is, I decided to make my own out of a block of mahogany I had. It's a simple design but it does what I need.

Hi, I know nothing about wood turning (or anything else) but when you start with a cube do the edges want to flick the cutting tool out of your hand?

That’s what the tool rest is for. You want to keep it close to the wood to prevent it from throwing the tools.
