Steffi is soooo fast, and she moves like a dancer!

American media had a hard time with steffi being #1 for so long. Their commentating were absolutely shocking. Today they are so quick to name Serena Williams greatest of all time but have failed to realise shes been playing for 24 years now whereas steffis career spans 17 years and won 22 slams and 107 titles.

And that Steffi was ranked no. 1 longer.

The same American Media that accused The William sisters of Roid use ? Is that why Maria Sharapova was the highest paid female Athlete for 10 years straight despite Serena being more accomplished ? Margaret Court's non open era Slams were never the bar till Serena threatened to catch up with Navratilova, Evert and Graf. When you compare severity of injuries, variety and tougher competition etc it's clear why Graf achieved so much in lesser time, also 107 titles a lot are inflated from lower tier tournaments, Serena mostly only played tier 1 tournaments and has more of those.

I think in general the powers that be are so desperate to hype up the game that they always lean towards current players being absolutely amazing, no matter what their level is. They're so desperate for viewing figures, clicks and likes. It's all about the $€¥£

Yeah and one of her fans stabbed her biggest rival. Serena has battled all of her rivals head on.

@Max E Sharapova represented Russia and more hyped and got more sponsors and deals from the American market too. It wasn't until the drug scandal Serena overtook her. American fans literally used to root against Serena in some matches in the early 2000s and yell racist slurs, the media had literally made many articles and comments with racist undertones about her physique and color aside from the steriod use rumors when she's one of the most tested players. No Court's wasn't, Open era slams were counted when she surpassed Steffi then the media started to talkabout her potentially breakinf the overall record. "She knew she had to do it to compensate for Steffi's golden slam" How do you know what she thought? Did she say it somewhere or are you making things up. Steffi never had life threatening injuries or a lpregnancy, Serena had to have one half of one of her lungs too removed so she's also been performing at lower lung capacity since the 2010s compared to other women. Serena also had to deal with her half sister being murdered that affected her mentally in the mid 2000s whilst dealing with other injuries. Steffi never went through any of that or even near it let alone having to bounce back. Also due to that Serena's quite a few slams too. Variety and tougher competition? Lemme tell you all of Steffi's main challengers the likes of Hingis dominated, put Hingis in place of Steffi and while not as great would still have slams in doubles digits in that era just look at her h2h with those players, whereas she struggled heavily in the 2000s. Serena has been performing at a high level for 2 decades. You're telling me such a person had it easier? You're in denial and gaslighting and you yourself know it. Overall, the GOAT debate is subjective as there are many variables, for me personally Steffi Martina and Serena tie but I just hate and will not keep quiet if someone unnecessarily drags Serena, can easily praise Steffi without bringing Serena but for some reason she lives rent free in ppls heads! Anything for likes I guess.

Steffi had hit powerful topspin or flat backhands in this match. If only she did it more often...she may be almost unbeatable.

That was her biggest "flaw". I wish she just believed in that shot more because she did it incredibly well.

If you look at the top spin backhands at 7:00 min you really whonder why she didn't use it more often. Those are technically very difficult shots off a high bouncing top spin and she makes those two powerful longline backhands look easy.

Then she would have made more unforced errors and lost more matches.
Thank God she was not stupid.

Strange tournament without Seles . Personally i do not think Seles would have won this the way Graf was playing. Also Sabatini ( despite the crash in the QFs) was playing well and would have defeated Sanchez in the SFs if she got through also Fernandez was playing well. Seles was playing pretty below par after she returned from illness. I loved Seles but when Graf was playing like this she was untouchable.

Not sure. Graf played well here but wasn’t that convincing in the quarters or finals. You couldn’t really rely on Sabatini by this point either.

Seles greater than Steffi Graf??? NEVER!!! Just have a look to their records! Who was longer times No1 and who has much more slams??? I think nothing more to say! Grunting Monipig with her limited game as good as Miss Vorhand? Ridiculous!!!

again, Graf was so resilient... winning GS tournament in each year from 1987-1996, or racking up singles titles in each year between 1986-1997... (and again 1998-1999). Graf is the ultimate champion... she retired 7 weeks after her 30th birthday at World #3 with 1 GS title and another final at Wimbledon in the weeks leading up to her retirement... Graf could have reached the SF at the USO '99 as well and become #1 in the world in 1999 again...

Monica's game was limited. But she exacted all she could from those limitations, and her supreme mental toughness, and before the stabbing, she (and her limitations) had Steffi, pinned - defensively - to a wall.
Experts have admitted that if Monica wasn't stabbed she would have gotten more GSs, GSs that Steffi won, rightly so, in her absence. I'm also a Steffi fan too.

Seles would have been lucky to win Wimbledon more than once even without the stabbing. She might not even have won it once. And wimbledon is and always will be the most important event. Graf had won every slam twice, and probably wins every slam atleast 3 times even without the stabbing. She was always going to be greater than Seles and I am not a Steffi fan.

@@ralphbourgeois5875 you have the wrong information...btw Wimbledon isnt the MOST important slam as you quoted.
.. Rafael Nadal will go down as one of the greatest in tennis history even if he had zero Wimbledon titles.
Without the stabbing Steffi would never had won so many titles just never
.. Seles used to rule the circuit in early 90s. That was the only way to stop her.

Illya Kuryakin your delusional. It was 8-6 Steffi before the stabbing 3-1 Monica in grand slams. Steffi has no backhand and Monica came through and knocked that ball right out her left hand just like Lindsay did later.
