  • The UK’s Prime Minister has lost a key Brexit vote as members of parliament opposed to no deal take control of House of Commons business.
MPs voted to take control of the Commons agenda tomorrow, paving the way for a bill designed to block Boris Johnson from taking the UK out of the European Union without a deal.
In a statement immediately after the vote, the Prime Minister accused parliament of being on the “brink of wrecking any deal” the UK might be able to strike in Brussels. Mr Johnson indicated that he would call for a general election if MPs vote tomorrow to force him to seek a delay to Brexit.
Earlier in the day the government lost its working majority in the Commons, when the Conservative Dr Philip Lee defected to the Liberal Democrats in protest at the government's approach.

Yeah, it's starting to get kind of serious though, looks a bit like the Reichstag in Berlin before the National Socialists took over. Fringe parties can look at how idiotic these politicians are who think that it possible to negotiate a good deal when saying that no deal will not be accepted while the opposing negotiator would very much want the UK to remain. That is utter stupidity. At the same time the Tories who are supporting Mr. Johnson are loyal to the party which got us into this mess. The olde democracy is showing signs that it's past its use, and that would be very sad indeed.
We just need some Communists/Nazis people to burn down parliament now and blame it on Nazis/Communists.
Anyway it seems kind of unlikely given that the Communist party exists inside the Labour party and there is no rightwing party further right than the Tories. So we are probably all goint to be fine.

@R868 the EU is only possible with American power in Europe and in the Oceans otherwise it would of never existed the Bretton Woods system is what keeps the EU together. Have you noticed something? America is no longer interested in keeping the global order going the United Kingdom would be better going to see Trump and get a free trade deal and leave the EU then try and be a part of something that isn't appearing to work much these days for more context just look at Peter Zeihan He perfectly explains what's going on in the world and why countries like Japan, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, United States, and Australia all have new trade deals It's because United States is building Bretton Woods 2 and the UK better get on board or be left on a tiny island next to Russia and German powers when the United States decides to start withdrawing from the region. You can confirm the withdraws with just the U.S. demanding more money from NATO countries or risk losing U.S. assets on the ground as a clear sign the United States wants out.

MII - parliamentary debates are always like a rugby scrum in the UK when a contentious issue is on the floor. More often than not though, when they're debating normal issues, it's a snooze-fest to watch and judging by the number of MPs who catch up on their 40 winks during sessions in normal times they find it pretty dull too.

@J and M What Boris did was more like an attempted coup against the constitution and its parliamentary sovereignty. What he did was constitutionally questionable. On the other hand, I agree with Boris on substance. We need no deal as an option in order to have decent negotiations with the EU. Parliament's discord on this matter is killing the UK's chance at a proper deal, but that doesn't mean we can undermine the constitution and democracy by bypassing the parliament.

@@Timbo5000 There is no deal to be gotten. The only choices are to leave without any deal or remain. The referendum's result was a betrayal of democracy in which populism trumped reality. Democracy relies on its voters knowing what they're doing. Misinformation and playing heartstrings concealed the truth and prompted the uninitiated to do what the people who wrote the propaganda wanted them to. A referendum without a properly educated public is a crime.

      3. Before they didn’t know what it meant in detail. People can be wrong and can change their minds, although I think politicians should have looked into it more. Only the very weak would carry on with a path that no longer achieves its goals.
      4. You are wrong. The polls switched at the time of the vote, possibly due to the last minute illegal spend from leave. Survation at least predicted it right. Plus the data we got from the referendum result have allowed us to firm up the accuracy of polls. Unfortunately for you, I understand his this works.
