My experience with using GEAR (Increased bench by 100lbs!) Ft Dave Tate Elitefts

- Hey guys in this video I show you my first experiencing using GEAR aka a bench shirt. There are different divisions of lifting and one of them is called equipped lifting or geared lifting. Using this suits and shirts to help increase the amount of weight lifted. In this video I bench 565 which is by far the most amount of weight i've ever put up.

What do you guys think about geared lifting?
Depends on the transitions for progressions
@RED CHUCKS haha!
@@drip369 true true
I would like to see more development on gear that lets injured people train.
Lift natural buddy, your gonna turn your nuts into raisins.
6:55 wow, I loved to hear this side of Dave, even if he was just joking around. He knows how to get inside of peoples heads
Westside back in the day would've been a psychological battlefield lmao
@@steezyg23 man just imagine hahah...must have been hard on mental side as much as on physical
@@watsonkushmaster3067 for sure man, in the Westside documentary someone said it was hell but with weights. I think it was actually Dave that said that lol
That was a fantastic explanation of exactly what the lifting gear shirt/ equipment is. I've had friends in acquaintances use these and they kind of break down trying to talk about it because it's more about a feeling. Watching this showed me exactly how wacky and weird and interesting doing something like that is. 1,000% more respect for that sport for sure like anything when you know a little bit more about it.
I don’t think it will ever truly happen but I’d love for equipped lifting to make a comeback. I think they just need to get stricter with judging and it could be more popular. I lift raw now, but I would definitely like to do some equipped when the time is right.
There’s not many things that feel akin to medieval jousting as geared powerlifting. You literally need a squire to armor up to fight a thing that could kill you.
I feel like there's a whole future frontier of not just geared lifting but exoskeleton lifting. Powered and unpowered.
Sort of a battlebots competition?
Catch me with the 10,000lb total with the Hydraulic actuators😎
Strongest man alive
@@BulkBrogan. so long as you can move the exoskeleton and walk with it.
The amount of knowledge from experience is amazing
Inspiring, man! Getting me pumped for 2022.
The thing I've wondered about was the padding on a lift and that was answered at the end of this video. Very interesting and informative video, seems we all learnt something new from this experience. Happy New year !
Solid work, Joey!💪🏻🙏🏻
Thanks Dave!
I don't have a clue about geared lifting but this was super cool and as usual Dave is an overflowing fountain of knowledge
Pretty incredible stuff! Great job.
Love the videos. Keep them coming. Got to check your gym out in PA.
Great Video! I used those fixes Dave gave you for your Squats and feels way more solid now.
The videos with Dave are great
I love going there, trying to keep it a regular thing
Gear lifting is so cool, it has such an old school 90’s charm
Great video Joey 💪 God bless
Awwww I totally fell for it. I just read the title and I was like "oh a gear story, alright cool" lol
Very cool.. a ton of information passed on.
Cant tell if dave is tucking in his shirt at 10:55 to spare you an eyefull of belly or to unrestrict his vision. Either way, spotters take note. 😄
You got that off season look. The bloat lord returns. Looks like me on Test and Nandrolone. 💪
I love the equipped content. Multiply lifter here.
Someday I'll also fail 315 for 13 reps!!!💪
I can fail to do that right now
Super impressive bro, hell yea! 🤘
Dave Tate is the grandfather I need in my life
First of all awesome work on your 13 PR! Dave is a well of knowledge and gets you thinking outside of the box a lot, for the lifting shirt I was curious about how your biceps/upper arms felt when loading each weight cause it looks tight when it was put on you? Also how did your arm with the torn bicep felt using it.
10:01 Look at Joeys face when Dave says more weight lol. Great content man👍
was just about to comment on that. I laughed my ass off when i saw that!
It isn't conjugate unless you forget what the original movement pattern is while reading the adjectives. Keep up the great work!
Yuh Dave Tate Tha Man!
god damn, dave is ruthless
Looking huge boss 👏 👌 🙌 💪
Joey, that was damn imoressive brother
That was good. I liked that
I’m the only one that’s going to assume you’re talking about a slingshot or bench shirt
haha we shall see
I wonder. Is Joey is going full French powerlifting guy?
Dave has great cues
Whole new skill set. Totally different animal.
This video is really insightful. I think that geared lifting is definitely different, but it’s cool how it works. Who cares if someone decides to use a suit. More power to them I say.
just something fun to learn
@@SzatStrength that’s what I’m saying. It looks like it would be a blast.
Very cool
I used to see magazines with George Halbert doing like 700lbs weighing like 200lbs. I never knew how the shirt puts so much pressure on the chest. He definitely mastered using the shirt. Ryan Kennelly was good too, he never had an accident with a 1000 plus that I heard of.
When Halbert at his peak the shirt technology wasn’t like it is now so he wouldn’t have been getting anywhere near 100lb out of his shirt.
Always wanted to try geared.. and your thoughts on the Elitefts Power Bar cerakote? Great work, awesome video input 💪
I like it, but I don't get the idea of cerakote bars.
The adrenaline and borderline scary shit that you can do in gear is what makes it so bad ass. It’s harder it’s more technical and a live or die situation. just can’t get enough.
That coach needs his own channel. He explained things as he said why do this or that. Thank you
Dave or Sam? They both post a ton on the Elitefts channel
I don't even care about using lifting gear, lol, i just want to be built like a brick house. I just love these videos. I Love it even more when he is with other coaches, or with the Boogz and Juj.
Same. I’ve lost 30 lbs and gained 20 back and believe me I wish I could say it’s muscle. Current job makes lifting what I can only describe as walking on lemon covered razor blades. Every time I try it just hurts like hell. The dreams still there though XD.
Joey is a strong guy. Who has powerlifted , done strongman and much more. He says it's crazy to feel that weight in his hands around the 500/560 range. This makes me think how insane Julios Maddox is to bench almost 800 raw 😳😫😱 unbelievably almost inhumane
I say buy the best bench shirt money can buy, also buy a slingshot and put it on at the same time, and hook some reverse bands up and shoot for 850.
Awesome Joey! Congrats on 13 reps with 315!!
thank you!
Geared lifting would be great if it had it's own meet.
Every meet that allows geared lifting it just takes forever. Its no fun being there that long.
Only issue.
Lol I thoroughly enjoyed this video.
heck yeah! We will be filming a lot more content at elite
I like sam he is good dude
That’s crazy.
When I saw gear I was thinking a whole another type of gear
Hey man, what are the stripes/tape for on the bench, grip?
Resistance bands to keep him from sliding around on the bench .
This is the first time Joey is ever on gear!
Best strongman bromance since Eddie Hall and Brian Shaw.
The spotter shouldn’t have touched the bar on the 13th rep. How did he not know that?
It’s a workout in itself just to get into the shirt
You are REALLY trying to hit that algorithm with this title. Lol
Why you keep the shirt on underneath?
Joey, you gonna go full on single ply now?
Well don’t I feel stupid. I read the title and thought I’d come here to watch you do Tren for a cycle or two.
Please collab with Bugenhagen, Dave. I'd love to see Bugenhagen and JM Blakley in the same podcast! Keep it a patreon exclusive or what not idc! Just gimme it
Congrats on getting 13
Wait
Are we in bulking phase rn?
I just want to get to 315 on bench. I can't imagine hitting it 13 times.
So is the negative the hard part about benching with a shirt?
13 rep’s 315 raw is impressive but lord have mercy the bar is looking sexy loaded like tha
It was just fun to be honest
When they killed multiply, they didn’t bury it deep enough.
When your bench press turn into a bench pull you know your using gear
All gear use increases blood pressure.
Ngl when I saw the title I thought he was gonna explain his cycle or something
lol sorry to disappoint
Holy cow youre looking buffalo sized at the moment mate! Wow
we are getting yoked
I just watched Bugenhagen hit his 540 bench in a slingshot, now you hit 565 in a bench shirt lol. Race to 650?
ITS ON!
You can't call it click bait it's clever
You better listen to Dan lol 😂 the gear click bait was hilarious 🤣
dude repped 315 for 13 and here im still hurting while putting up 245 for 5. gotta say im jealous as fuck. but my goal is to hit 315x5 before july
How Dave made Joe feel small. Wow. 🤣
Lemme channel Dave. . . "Congrats on getting 2 less than your true max on 315 for reps!"
When I first started using lifting gear it increased my raw bench 50 to 100 pounds same for the squat , I would highly recommend it to someone trainning for strength, but I would not recommend it for a new lifters , I had at least 5 years of training before I got in to a shirt and I started off with a belt then knee wraps and wrist wraps then I moved up to the lifting gear .
50 to 100 lbs. What does that mean? Your not sure how much you lifted?
@@Laocoon283 means he's talking out his ass. :p
@@agnidas5816 😂
You have to listen to Uncle because it's Uncle's gym....
Rewatching this after a year and realizing I might be stronger than Joe 😮, I was no where near this when this video came out but a lot of my motivation came from his videos feels awesome.
Can a bench shirt, in theory, help you punch harder? 👊 💪❔
Now when are u gonna tell us about your experience being ON gear 😜
I don’t have a problem with equipped lifting but it doesn’t make much sense to me in the bench press. I understand the need for the squat and the deadlift but if strongmen are even using multiply shirt to OHP/logpress 200+kg, it doesn’t really make sense to me. Seems more like overkill to fix a sticking point
I don’t know. For me personally…. When I hit a plateau on the bench… I’ll do a couple weeks of pin presses.
One of the variations I will do is to set up the pins about 60 percent of the way up in my range of motion, so when I sit the bar on it…. I’m starting very high and only pressing the last 40 percent of the range. Given that I’m starting so high, I can go much heavier than normal.
When I get stuck under normal circumstances, I get stuck 3 or 4 inches off my chest. But for whatever reason…. This approach helps me anyhow even though I’m only hitting the top
And at least in my mind…. I “think” it’s because I’m handling such heavy weight for the pin press. Just the mere act of handling an extra 50 lbs or so in this short range seems to make me stronger everywhere.
At the top of his range he was still handling 565 lbs, so that must count for something
@@1gregmoreira I agree that the multiply bench shirt is going to increase his max, but my only worry is that the risk to reward ratio for handling that much load and counting on a mechanical advantage from the shirt. The risk is dumping the weight on the neck, or the short tearing (low possibility) and the reward is to train through your sticking point. I think it’s smarter to just do the more specified pin-presses from your sticking point.
@@squatplugenthusiast3667 Did he say anything about actually using this in his training? It seemed like he was just doing it for fun.
And people don't really use gear to improve raw strength. Equipped lifting is its own sport, and as Sam said, the added variable of gear and lifting insane weights is fun for some people.
@@metabasketball405 I don’t think he said anything about adopting it for training use. I’ll have to try a bench shirt and see what the hype is about
Hey everybody Joey's on gea...oh, not that kind of gear. Go Joey go!
Imagine what the mustache would look like if you shaved it now?
You did change your grip too so you weren’t relying on your triceps for a close grip.
I usually am way stronger with a closer grip but just happy to hit 13!!! wahoooo
@@SzatStrength maybe its the ability of a narrow grip to provide more force but less fatigue resistance. either way its awesome and more than i can do!
I can bench 4000 pounds. My bench shirt is a forklift with a tarp over it.
You got 13 reps probably cuz your body picked up on the added stress you've beem going through and made some adjustments. (Accidental progressive overload) well and you might have absorbed more pre workout on an empty stomach. Less digestion, more energy. That old chest nut.
Whats the point of geared benching from a fitness perspective. it looks like it doesn't help get you stronger in any practical application, even a raw bench as the mechanics, range of movement, and bar path are totally different then un equipped benching.
In most cases geared lifters train raw for the majority of the time I believe. I guess if u get stronger in the raw bench that will translate to gear but not necessarily the other way round
There's no point for general strength/fitness. He's just doing it for fun.
It's a different sport than raw powerlifting. Like Sam explained towards the beginning, some people enjoy the extra variable of gear and lifting insane weights.
@@metabasketball405 exactly. Most people think it’s just an ego thing but they don’t understand the differences and why that can attract people to use gear
I'm not a doctor but finasteride brought me back from the brink of hair loss. You still got time to save yours if your proactive
Otherwise great video, keep that fire comin
Jullius maddox is going for a 800 bench raw so theres nothing what impress me about this tipe of lifting benchpress should be raw
Your face when he said you got excited about 315 ?
That was for 13
Is the same feeling I had when you asked me “ did you just miss 500 ?”
Did you miss the first 4 reps ?
haha

yes i do!!!
raw is good
I cant lie but this technique seems shit range of motion . It would have been cool if it was full
