Ended up going to a Lego store on the 7th of September and it was sold out. As a huge aviation nerd, the Concorde was pretty much the Lego model I've always hoped for. It was an absolute dream to build, and makes a brilliant display piece, even if it is a little on the big side.

Temple of the Golden Idol is definitely my favorite set of the year. Indiana Jones was the theme that got me into Lego as a child, so seeing its return with such with an 18+ set that included so many cool play features was such a treat
Honerable mention IMO is the botanical gardens friends set. Great fun to build, especially with my daughter, excellent value and visually lovely. And from the amount of play its got since we built it, I'd say she enjoys it too!
He said in his newsletter that a review of it is coming soon. Could be a one off thing, or a chance to expand his reviews further into the Friends theme.
Concorde - my dad was a licensed aircraft engineer working on Concorde for British Airways for 30 years. I purchased the Lego model for him to build on my behalf to display. He loved the build, and the model is stunning.
I was a casual Lego collector, mostly for the building experience. Then LOTR Rivendell came out. My budget never had a chance. The only thing that could be worse is if they put out a D&D line of products. Now I have all the Lego Elves sets, because there's so many amazing parts/molds, color combos, and so on. A lot of what is so beautiful in Rivendell wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the Elves sets.
There's supposed to be a D&D set released in the next year or two that was the winner of an Ideas contest they did. And naturally it was the biggest of the finalists. :) Wish I had the funds to buy every Elves set! I've managed to nab a few but want them all.
I got the Viking Village set yesterday and i got about half way though and enjoying it a lot so far! I did notice that the price per brick was really good but didn’t realize it was that good. Definitely one of my top 5 sets I’ve built so far, especially for the price.
My choice for best function would be Friends 41737 Beach Amusement Park. It looks great even without any functions, but they chose to include an amazing mechanism inside as well.
Really love this channel. I got into a depression this year, and Lego helped me through it. Your videos were very helpful as a guide to figure out which sets were right for me. Thanks for the great content!
My favourite set of the year is probably between Concorde and The Great Wave. With an honourable mention to Tales of the Space age. Though as the year isn’t quite over I do expect “Tiny Plants” to possibly become one of my favourites. I have order the Ornthocopter for next year already and can’t wait to see how the Art, Icons, and Botanical themes develop during the coming years.
Love the list and agree with you final pick! A sleeper set for me this year was the friends arboretum, I think it is impeccable. My top 3 are Rivendell, arboretum, Viking village.
Next year I would love to see a category for best disassembly experience - I like to disassemble my sets for storage to make room for others, but I keep them all in their own bags. Would love to see that experience mentioned in future episodes. ❤

I have never paid so much for what is essentially a toy, but I feel fortunate for being able to afford Rivendell for myself. @@TiagoCatarino Oh yes! It's become a tradition - whenever one of us buys a large set, we all get together and build, make some food and just enjoy ourselves. We call it Lego Day. For the Rivendell build we cooked some dishes from the Middle-earth cookbook just for fun, it was the best time.
I know it wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I loved the Batcave shadowbox. It makes a great display piece and opening it up reminded me of the He-Man and Skeletor playsets I had as a kid.
Rivendell is profound. Its awe inspiring after bag 2 onwards. There's just one problem with it though, its too far advanced from normal lego, its not one grade better than every set in existence, its two grades better. Its almost that different that its like technic.. doesn't feel like the usual bricks and pieces. Also interesting that it could be the start of the new detail era.. insane detail with most of the set being 1x1 spares...

I got the great wave set for my birthday. Probably my favourite gift in the last 10 years easy. It's so beautiful and the podcast that lego prepared is a great addition to listen to, while building the set.
I bought the piranha plant as a Christmas gift for my best friend who loves Nintendo (but doesn’t build Lego) and I can’t wait to see his reaction. Personally my favourite build for pure build experience was Rivendell, it blew my mind.
Only one of these I haven’t built is the concord. Rivendell totally deserves it, it’s a magical set. It got me to finally read the books and that alone made it a priceless set. Here’s hoping Barad Dûr lives up to Rivendell.
My 9 yr old daughter has received some Lego sets from me this year. After watching her build and play with her Legos, the best child set this year is the Lego Beach Amusement Park.
Hi Thiago, as a Ninjago can I am very disappointed that Ninjago city markets did not make it to this list😭😭😂 even not in the value category! I forgive you man, great video again! ;)
Agree with Rivendell as a dream set! But the one that won here for actually buying was the HP micro scale castle. I’m still impressed at the price point and it’s a perfect display size. Also love all the tiny printed pieces, would be great to reuse.
Absolutely concur about the Concorde. It provided the most engaging building experience I've had in years, and its display appearance is truly impressive.
Tbh i loved the no way home set. Very compact, reasonable price, yet it's a great display piece for all the fig. A great minifig selection too! Most importantly, its definitelt a long awaited piece. Loved the vid btw❤
No one talking about the Tranquil garden. For me it fits perfectly, the size, the colors, the peaceful feeling... With additional custom/moc minifigures, I can imagine multiple stories that I can tell.
Thank you for a great year of content Tiago! I love watching all of your reviews, even those that are on sets I have no interest in. Your insight, knowledge and ability to write a concise script are top tier.
absolutely love Rivendell, definitely one of the most beautiful Lego sets ever made. and it was as you said, a joy to build. it is one of the sets that brought me back to getting new Lego sets after a long hiatus. i just knew when i first saw it that i had to get it day one.
The first video where I see views going up in numbers in front of my eyes. Nice video, got some of those sets, but do not have concorde yet. Still going to buy it one day. Keep up the work :)
as a minifigure enthusiast, my pick for Best Budget Set this year is Izzie & Bunchu. Very special minifigure, in particular the hair piece, but also the sword, overall fun design, great value.
Love your content. Indiana Jones was best for me can’t stop playing with the boulder. But what I really want is some Star Trek, the Enterprise would be awesome.
I knew the Rivendell set was gonna win a mile away from the start. The Concorde was the only set that actually stood a chance with the LOTR set. Third would’ve been the Viking village. Great vid Tiago!!
Viking Village is a winner in my opinion and won a spot in my living room. Hokusai - The Great Wave also got a spot in my office. Both sets are fantastic and glad to see they were in your selection
As a major LOTR fan Rivendell is simply one of the best D2Cs put out in recent years as it basically checks all the boxes for what makes a great themed, and displayable Lego set. Having collected the original sets I feel given my recent budgeting situation of the past years it's not really a consideration. Thinking smaller really like the inclusions of the more modestly budgeted Tales of the Space age and Insects sets, both of which are fantastic and look great with minimal space. Personal favorites though I've only gotten them and not built them from this year are the Icons Tranquil Garden, and 61 Corvette as they're not astronomically expensive, look fun to build, and don't require all that much display space to show off.
just not the price. I keep seeing it everytime I go to a lego store but $500 is way too much. I always end up buying 200-300 sets, which is better for space.
Great picks! My favorite of the year is the Disney 100 camera set for sure especially with Walt Disney in minifig form. That camera strip with the different classic Disney animated films was such a creative inclusion and filled with nostalgia.
7:15 why not ninjago city markets? Its only around 350€ with 6163 pieces, tons of minifigures with a lot of exlusives, and a huge build with ton of detail
Tales of the Space Age was my personal favorite of the year, I just can’t explain how much I love it. But Rivendale is a legendary set and I absolutely agree with you placing it as the best set of the year.
Great Video, Tiago! This really made me considering getting the Concorde, Tales of the Space Age and the Insects as soon as possible. It‘s also very interesting to hear that some decisions on Sets from Lego don‘t really make sense to an ex-designer which made me think (if you‘re allowed to do it): a Q&A about your time working for Lego would be a very interesting Video for sure. And with that i wish everyone reading this a wonderful day✌️
I liked your categories and your list overall. I might have to add some of these to my shopping cart now. I was surprised Eldorado Fortress didn't get mentioned. Not only is it a fantastic update to a classic set but it's modular to display several different ways and has a ship too! Perfect alongside Pirates of Barracuda Bay. At only $215 it's my favorite of the year.
I think this context might help when deciding on Rivendell: Angled head on, it only takes up a littler over the size of 3 32x32 baseplates, the size of three modular buildings, or about 13in x 30in, being a little deeper. Still VERY big, however, thats about the size of a lot of shelves. So theirs a good chance you already have a shelf/area like that, especially if your already collecting Lego. But if I were to add my own reason to hold off: we're most likely going to be getting a $400 Barad Dur, so if you don't have Rivendell, and only have the budget for 1 massive LotR set, maybe wait and see if you want that one.
I love nearly all these sets but the one I'd pick would be 41757, the Friends Botanical Garden. The category missing in this video is play value (Lego is a toy, after all) and 41757 has loads of it, as well as being a good looking set that is fun to build, even for people who are not normally Friends fans. And, if you have two, you can make some great full-size modular-style buildings with them.
Although I liked all your suggestions, i think you could have included the upscaled minifigure in best budget and if you did in my opinion it would have won! Good collection though!
I think it depends on your personal interest. True the Rivendell looks great but I am not spending $500 for a LOR set. As a huge fan of the Concord this was the first ever Lego set I bought as an adult for me and I didn't not regret it. Super fun to build, looks amazing and I bought a lightening set for it as well. If you are a hardcore LOR fan then of course your opinion will be different. As for the Space age - still got to build it ;-)
Rivendell is one of the best LEGO sets ever released to this day, we need more of these sets. I Hope rumors for Barad-dur are real and will be released in such vast pieces and minifigs.
I feel like the regular themes are a little overlooked. I don’t usually buy Friends sets for example, but they had a banger with the Botanical Gardens set
Tiago, my dearest, WHERE IS THE BOTANICAL GARDEN? For me this IS the best set - not extermly expensive, not overpriced, amazing build, great details all over, outstanding piece collection.... Too much of good stuff

Thank you for a great year of content Tiago! I love watching all of your reviews, even those that are on sets I have no interest in. Your insight, knowledge and ability to write a concise script are top tier.
Next year, can you include Play features?
And the award for best Lego RUclipsr of the year goes to.... Tiago Catarino! Loving all the videos and Brick Update! Keep it up!
As a fan of Ninjago City, my biased opinion is that Ninjago City Markets should've made the list.
absolutely love Rivendell, definitely one of the most beautiful Lego sets ever made. and it was as you said, a joy to build.
it is one of the sets that brought me back to getting new Lego sets after a long hiatus.
i just knew when i first saw it that i had to get it day one.
Excellent list and great job on the video as usual!
Outstanding video! Loved the categories and the justification. 10/10. Subscribed :)
My favorite two sets of the year were Rivendell and the Concorde, so its great to see that other people thing the same!
Your description of the Batman Shadow Box had sold the set to me… and then I saw the price…
Currently building Rivendell and absolutely loving it! Have the Concorde box nearby waiting to build next. So excited for it all. Thanks for the video
The first video where I see views going up in numbers in front of my eyes. Nice video, got some of those sets, but do not have concorde yet. Still going to buy it one day. Keep up the work :)
the Concorde for me
Was thinking about buying rivendell, and this pushed me over. Very excited to check it out!
Maybe wait for tomorrows Black Friday deals!
@TiagoCatarino good idea as I also have just been pushed over to buy it 😅
as a minifigure enthusiast, my pick for Best Budget Set this year is Izzie & Bunchu. Very special minifigure, in particular the hair piece, but also the sword, overall fun design, great value.
Love your content. Indiana Jones was best for me can’t stop playing with the boulder. But what I really want is some Star Trek, the Enterprise would be awesome.
Bluebrixx (a german brick company) has the license for it and offers sets. Google it...
Great video! Thank you for your analysis and reviews!
Totally agree. I really enjoyed building Rivendell with my son. It’s just stunning.
Great picks! My favorite of the year is the Disney 100 camera set for sure especially with Walt Disney in minifig form. That camera strip with the different classic Disney animated films was such a creative inclusion and filled with nostalgia.
Thanks for your opinion and your insights! Great video!
7:15 why not ninjago city markets? Its only around 350€ with 6163 pieces, tons of minifigures with a lot of exlusives, and a huge build with ton of detail
Great review as always! Thanks!
Wow. How did Himeji Castle and the Japanese Garden not make it on the list for best display sets?
I think this context might help when deciding on Rivendell:
Angled head on, it only takes up a littler over the size of 3 32x32 baseplates, the size of three modular buildings, or about 13in x 30in, being a little deeper.
The fact that avengers tower was not on the list, deeply enrages me
This was a "eh I will watch a few mins" that I just absolutely could not put down!!
Thanks for sharing!
As for the Space age - still got to build it ;-)
Rivendell was the set that made me find this channel, gorgeous piece great build
Rivendell is one of the best LEGO sets ever released to this day, we need more of these sets. I Hope rumors for Barad-dur are real and will be released in such vast pieces and minifigs.
I just ordered Rivendell for my 40th birthday, I can't wait to build it!
