cheers from a master orthopedic shoemaker from europe. I'm an expert at building new shoes, any type.. a main part of my day is spent building lasts from scratch, completely made to measure. I also build all kinds of shoes.. from the clubfooted to the lawyer in need of fine footwear. I have less experience in complex repairs. I've learned quite a bit in the field of repairs from this channel. To me it's sheer nuts resowing/repairing a goodyear welt and some of the things you repair. Some of those repairs seem more difficult to me than making a new shoe. Love your channel, much love.

I never thought I'd say this about your work (even though I completely understand why you're able to command the top dollar pricing you do for your level of craftsmanship) but I think you priced this job too low for the amount of work that it looks like went into this restoration. As usual another top quality job. I can't help but think that there are probably only a small handful of cobblers in the entire world who could do that job and make it look as good as you did.

after restoration, shoes look like small pieces of art! I repair my own shoes ( mostly preventive measures, I do what i can without special equipment - dye, repair scuffs, reattach stitches, polish to a shine, smooth creases with shoe trees, moisturize, take out water and salt damage). I've learnt so much thanks to your videos!

I was half expecting to see that the shoes weren't even really black under all that wax. I'm not sure how long it would take for all that buildup to happen, but it must have taken decades. I read something interesting about black shoes. Prior to the invention of aniline dyes in the 19th century, black leather shoes were rare and expensive. Black dye was difficult to make because it used gall, which forms on oak trees that are infected by a particular parasite. It was a precious resource before modern dyes were available, which meant that it was only available to aristocrats and military officers. The majority of people could only afford shoes made with vegetable dyed leather, if they could afford them at all. Nowadays we take shoes for granted, but back in the day, it simply wasn't the case.
