Well, I'm looking forward to buy it, it seems for me that it's got its uniqueness to it. Do you have any library like Hammers & Waves Acoustic or Noire? I'd like to ask if the Ravenscroft is similar with one of the two mentioned? I'd like to have a piano sound like it, I'm having Noire and I want something similar but with more depth. Was wondering if this Ravenscroft can provide exactly this thing.
I remember installing demos for all of the most popular piano VSTs on the market and asking my piano teacher which one should I buy. He disliked all except for two - Ravenscroft and Pianoteq (ironically, the one that did not sample a real piano sounded the most realistic). Due to pricing considerations I went for Ravenscroft, and 6 years later I'm still rocking it.
i tend to prefer grand pianos but the modern u sounds absolutely PERFECT, it's just fhe most realistic piano sound I've heard out of a virtual pianos❤❤
Man I love your improvisations. I'm using walker 1955 for the last couple of years are you familiar? I have the modern U also plays great and tuning is pristine better than Walkers tuning. Great videos!
I love your stuff and I am glad you got recognized. you deserve it. You should be pumped. also what do you think of the Ravenscroft 275 for iOS and do you think it would glitch on my phone? I do use the Gaint on my mac but i am sick of bringing my laptop to the gigs. Iam hoping this will be a good solution.
2:29 that’s why I switched to Mac. There are a few things that take some getting used to but as a life long pc user, I can say that I have never had any trouble installing new VST’s on my Mac. Besides ilok and native access🙄I love Kontakt but I cannot stand how difficult it is to install and update new libraries! It drives me mad!
What do you think? Plays like butter yeah... The pianos are not as full as say Keyscape but they are clearer and feel better in my opinion. Mics have some phasing issues on the Ravenscroft though. Overall I would say for playability they are among the best. I think they could be the company to finally blur line between modelled and sampled.
@@SamTheBeardGuy yes very true. Keyscape has its strength in a mix it slots right in like it is supposed to be there. I noticed how much you enjoyed playing the Ravenscroft though you got really into it haha. I can play those two pianos for ages and just get lost in time with them, I would say that is the mark of a good product. My only issue with VI Labs is that they don't have any updates. Whilst their products are good they could still do with being improved, especially with the soundstage.
@@deyvidpetromusic That's good to know. I haven't been around long enough to know what a relationship looks like with them. Maybe they don't update because it's already solid haha. I could use a UI improvement, i couldn't find a way to zoom in.
@@SamTheBeardGuy haha well yeah they must not see any holes in there product at all but with technology getting better they must want to improve... I know Spectrasonics do not update regularly, but when they do it is normally a pretty big update. VI Labs from my knowledge have never updated any of there True Keys line either so I don't expect an update from them at all, which is a shame in my opinion. It is why I like companies like Spectrasonics and Modartt because you are buying an investment and not just a product.
What about a review of a few free pianos from Pianobook? My go-to has been the Steinway Grand (recorded in Dallas) for just about every project. But I'm also not a pianist and would really like to hear your thoughts on these simpler libraries.
I think Ravenscroft is superior to Pianoteq. Pianoteq is OK but sounds artificial to me as its non sample based. If you tweek any of the piano settings it gets less and less like a piano, in fact you can quite easily make a pianoteq piano end up sounding like a guitar. Where as sample based sound more realistic. Keyscape is OK, but I hate the fact its just a Yamaha and some of the brighter Piano settings have a metallic edge to them which I don't like. Whats your go to piano sample Sam? Do you have a favourite? I find I use quite a few Kontakt piano addons.
That's tough to answer without knowing exactly what you need. If you're just looking for a piano, you either like the Keyscape sound, or you like the pianoteq/ravenscroft sound. If you want the bells and whistles, get pianoteq, but if you want a more streamlined simplified experience but comparable quality, ravenscroft. If you need a more well-rounded set of instruments, like synths, orchestral stuff, kontakt has all that, and the pianos that come with it will get the job done.
Thanks Sam for your « music first » demoes. Strangely the sound when you play is different from the one of the demo of the Ravenscroft on their website. I miss the deep and wide sensation that I look for. Is it linked to the way you recorded it? The type of music you played? Post prod on their side? I hesitate now to buy it :-) Your opinion?
interesting, I'd have to check it out and figure out why, you're the first person to say that. Tbh I don't use it at all anymore, but lots of people I know do love using it.Thanks for watching though.
hello. great review. congrats! i need an advice. for best results with ravenscroft (sound quality and low latency) do i need an external audio interface? thank you
Sam, I'm trying to decide between Garritan CFX, Ravenscroft and UVI Austrian Grand.. which would you recommend for gospel piano? None of them have a demo/trial version so I really need some advice before buying. Please reply.... thanks!
I noticed you usually throw voicing on top of your left hand (thumb) how long did it take you to get used to those positions? they can be quite the stretch for some chords.
Hello - you sound awesome ... and I love Ravenscroft 275 ... my question is how did you find the install of R 275 ? I find their install instructions not all that clear ... and how do you find their support ?
I own both. They’re very different. The Wing obviously has way more character, perhaps too much. Not bags of character with the Modern U which shines in the mic options, making it great for fitting into a mix. It doesn’t get as loud or as bright as other U3s I own. The Sordino pedal is my favourite feature, not as muffled as felted piano, just beautiful. Im currently demoing the VSL German upright. This sits right in the middle of these 2. It’s sublime and full of character, although I’d have preferred it recorded in a smaller deader environment.
I installed it, and mine does not sound as good as yours right out of the box. It’s like the left half of the keyboard is quiet. When I click on a key in the virtual keyboard, it sounds great. When I hit the same key on my keyboard, it sounds way quieter.
Native Access is so slow. I also find their instruments to be semi good. I have the Granduer and the other piano vsts but I find them limited and cannot get a good sound like this one. Just watching a few videos before I buy it. What is selling me on ViLabs is that you don't need a the ilok.
totally. I find myself adding a few FX with the NI pianos. I use the gentleman a lot these days, and I do a good amount of tweaking to it. None of the pianos I use require an iLok, including the NI stuff. You need the iLok account to register, but you don't need a physical ilok
ravenscroft sucks a lot of you do classical or a lot of stocatto, the samples are missing for that. but the VSL, and Gerritan libraries have those samples, and can reproduce those complex nuances. ravenscroft makes you want to play jazz all the time, many libraries have that effect, its almost a plague when using them. however, the CFX does fix it a bit. im gonna try VSL more offten to make sure it can replace my hunger for CFX as a more inspirational and study level instrument.

what would you pick if you could pick between pianoteq and the UVI libraries sound wise? equal prize

Thanks for your video, I bough this app but the file on iMovie is empty after sharing from GarageBand. Any advice please?
Maybe a stupid noobie question here but what is the use of pedal noise? I would imagine no pedal noise would be ideal, just the effect of the pedal.
thanks alot Bro
