Man I cried at that point like they were just so wholesome. Granted my grandma passed a few months before the movie released but still, maternal figures always get me in movies aha
the way that the real world was so grounded and the mattel company was so... cartoonish besides America Ferrera led me to think they'd reveal Will Ferrel and his cronies were all escaped kens the explain all of *that* behavior
the first time i saw barbie my initial thought was to change how they ended it. i think the scene with barbie and ruth in the white room and the montage should've been the final scene of the actual movie. its beautiful and emotional and so raw and i think it was the perfect ending. then roll some main credits on black screen with the what was i made for instrumental playing. then have the scene with the gynecologist as a mid credit scene for a bonus clip and a laugh, then roll full end credits with barbie world playing.
oh my god THANK YOU i never understood the internet's obsession with ken like yeah it was fun or whatever but it takes away from what i actually wanted to see so much
I think it comes from Ryan Gosling being the greatest person on the cast hitting the comedic lines. And also Greta Gerwig focusing the story too much on him
Since Greta said Barbie's story represents how girls grow up and start to fell doubtful of what they are worth, I feel like Ken represents how Boys will grow up, try to fit into this mold of what a man should be and slowly follow that red pill/andrew tate bs and follow those ideologies to cope with their own insecurities. So the people saying this movie was anti men, are truly stupid.
I feel like it's so ironic bc the point of barbie was literally to focus on the experience of being a woman and everyone turned it into to "HAHA KEN IS FUNNY"
14:54 Actuallyyyyyy.. fun fact! Remember when the other Barbies are explaining how Weird Babrie got the way she is, and they show a brief clip of a little girl destroying her Barbie in real life? THAT was Gloria!! (Sasha’s mom)
Apparently when they were making the movie they told Greta Gerwig to cut the scene with the old lady. She said something like "if we get rid of that scene I don't know what this movie is about."
I would definitely say you guys hit the nail on the head when it comes to my own personal thoughts on the movie. I wish that they focused more on the beauty of aging and the importance of motherhood and less on the shallow male vs female themes that were used primarily as a joke.
The moment that made me cry the most was the reveal that America was the one who needed Barbie and the memories of her playing with Barbie’s with her daughter. I think that spoke to me the most because I am a college student but honestly if I still had Barbie’s I would love to play with them and I just long to be as creative and carefree as I once was when playing Barbies. I just felt so much nostalgia and relatability within America Ferrari’s character and I am nowhere near motherhood but it was her struggles outside of motherhood that connected with me the most
The way I see the timeline of Barbieland is it’s basically anytime they’re in Barbieland/Kendom it’s through the eyes/perspective of a child playing with the dolls, so things don’t necessarily work the same. It’s all very exaggerated and that’s why the Kendom feels like a little brother coming and overthrowing your barbie dreamhouse with his monster trucks
Exactly! That's how I interpreted as well. When children play with toys, time is not a factor. Things just happen. Forget a few days, over throwing a government can happen within a few minutes. It doesn't have to obey the laws of reality.
Ya'll spoke truth about the Barbie movie! Thank you for being one of the only analysis's I've seen that actually touch on the issues with this movie while still recognizing where it works! Queen behavior.
Barbie kind of reminded me of a French film called :"Je ne suis pas un homme facile"(or "i'm not an easy man"). Where a stereotypical sexist man hits his head and enters a universe where social norms around man and women are flipt. And he tries to speak up for mens rights in that universe.
I saw this movie with my mom and we looked at each other with tears in our eyes during gloria’s monologue. growing up watching america ferrera as a latina the way she spoke to us was truly heart hitting.
Yessss dude the commentary about people saying the message of the movie being basic. IT IS… AND?! It was still touching asf. You guys ate up your reasoning on that part
I get where you coming from. As a straight dude, I gained a lot from the ken plot as I stand for the message that "there is more to being a guy then just other ppl's validation, find yourself first" but I do also feel it didn't need to be a whole half of the movie. Like can we talk about why the mom and daughter's relationship is so strained please 🙏🏽
But overall I love the movie, even as a leftist feminist, it showed me issues that I didn't even know about. It helped me check my privileges and look into how I can help the people around me better
2:41 oh darling don’t you ever grow up don’t you ever grow up, you could stay this little. That’s my response Ash I mean I agree but like still Never Grow Up is the perfect response to that
The monologue legit did its job Sometimes you just have to have someone say it Maybe its not a revolutionary concept in originality but i prefer getting the mesage across than have the scene be so complicated only people in the know would have understood it At my household it personally lightened my moms load because even if i wasnt a guy i was putting those double standards on her despite me also being an adult in this household so Barbie is still doing its job about being with me while i grow up i guess :P
I LOVED the Ken parts of the story, I think Ryan Gosling was soooo iconic. However, the parts that made me cry were America Ferrera. Ryan Gosling gave me laughs. America gave me tears and like what the movie was actually about. She was the heart of the movie and I would’ve loved to see more of her cuz honestly she got underused and sidelined. Also Barbie’s progression into wanting to be human came a little out of nowhere even if the whole movie set it up, it still don’t feel like enough and there was just so much more they could’ve done with Barbie and America and Sasha
As a British woman whose grandparents moved to Texas for work. My grandmama would buy me tons of American Girl dolls as a child. I always thought that they were weird and had no idea that they were such an American childhood staple 😅 whenever I hear them mentioned in a video it reminds me of getting frustrated at how big they were when i was a child! (I was more of a Polly pocket girl)
Trin, I hope you see this because I want to know your opinion on this, a friend of mine who used to work with me she is a mom. Before I had the chance to watch the movie and even after watching it, she was pretty upset at the fact that Greta didn't make this movie for children. I told her that it is also for us young and older women who played with Barbie's as kids, and who have experienced these heavy topics as women. I had summarized the movie for her and that it's not that it's "inappropriate" per say for a child, but IT IS A LOT for a child to understand precisely because they haven't experienced anything horrible like "catcalling". I told her that when Spanish subtitles are available, she can watch it on her own then form her own opinions on it to explain to her underaged daughter. I have also seen other mothers upset about the message and what the movie is ACTUALLY about because it wasn't animated or targeted towards children in general. I personally enjoyed this movie because I have personally experienced a lot of things that weren't talked about before the movie came out. My boyfriend watched it with me, and he was asleep for the rest of it so he really didn't understand what happened nor why it meant so much to me.
i need to see what would happen if barbie got in the box. i wish they elaborate on it. because they did not elaborate on it-i felt like it should all just be cut.
This is exactly what I needed after Barbie getting completely snubbed at the BAFTAs. Which one means more to me, personally... a life-affirming film about women (and men) finding their place in the world, or a film about a man who invented a deadly bomb that will likely end up destroying it?
I am IN LOVE with this collab honestly ❤❤ Im so happy that my mothers of RUclips are hereeee together 🥰 Btw I almost spat out my water from laughing so hard when Ash said that Ken could burn in a fire 🔥😂
the disappointment i felt when i walked out the theater, tears streaming down my face and two teen boys next me say "so what was the movie about? i dont get it" then laughed.
The notification of this collab caused my head to burst, and as a result I had to go to the emergency room. I demand reparations for the pain you two mothers caused me.
22:13 this!!!! I always say the America Ferrerra monologue is for the generation of our moms. Gen X, who was slightly too early for these girlboss movements or are not online to see all the support for women
I’m so glad to hear that other people agree that it was shocking / weird that so many people loved Kens character over anything else. While the ken and mattel stuff was funny I was so much more interested in the Barbies and Barbie in the real world and her relationship with the mom and daughter!! Needed more girl moments and less man moments
I think both characters did really important things. Kens character really added a lot of humor to the movie and some funny wild scenes. Also a lot of men needed to hear the messages that Ken's character portrayed. It imo made the movie way more accessible by bringing in the male demographic who also can now watch the movie get something for themselves and hopefully also take in the messages and lessons that barbie and the female demographic got out of the movie.
this barbie can’t believe this collab finally happened
Collab of the century!
FINALLY giving girlies what they want !!!
best thing to come from 2024 so far
this barbie can't believe it either and loves it 💕💕💕

Marvel has the greatest crossover of all time
Trin and Ash: Hold my beer 🍺🍻
Marvel has been really bland until they let people of color be more than Afrikaans parallels. Phase 4 and on is my Marvel
that scene w the older lady on the bench was so touching, and i ABSOLUTELY just love that she said “i know” like that rly made it sm better idky
Man I cried at that point like they were just so wholesome.
Granted my grandma passed a few months before the movie released but still, maternal figures always get me in movies aha
Mother convention
you guys NEED to do this again the chemistry is chemistrying
a trin ash collab talking about barbie this actually feels like a dream i had and became reality and im so grateful for that

I get it, the tonal whiplash was insane
wait ur a genius this would've been so good
oh my god THANK YOU i never understood the internet's obsession with ken like yeah it was fun or whatever but it takes away from what i actually wanted to see so much
It was dumb im just ken song smh i hated how important ken became to the plot
I think it comes from Ryan Gosling being the greatest person on the cast hitting the comedic lines. And also Greta Gerwig focusing the story too much on him

It is very Misogynist to turn the conversation about Misogyny into men v women,
The moment that made me cry the most was the reveal that America was the one who needed Barbie and the memories of her playing with Barbie’s with her daughter. This mermaid barbie is left wigless from this sickening part 2 collab/Barbie discussion. Literally, 10s across the board. ✨💁🏽♀️
THE SCREAM I SCRUMMED WHEN I SAW THIS NOTIFICATION IS CONCERNING
Barbie kind of reminded me of a French film called :"Je ne suis pas un homme facile"(or "i'm not an easy man"). Where a stereotypical sexist man hits his head and enters a universe where social norms around man and women are flipt. And he tries to speak up for mens rights in that universe.
Ooh I remember that was a fun movie with a scary ending.
They may not be pregnant but they are delivering
my barbie’s would probably be like love island or reality tv in barbie land
My Barbies would be like a really diverse modern Saddle Club reboot in Barbieland
they missed an opportunity to show different types of barbie cliques and houses lol
COLLAB OF THE YEAR 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
ahh i love the friendships between the movie commentary channels it makes me so 🥰
I saw this movie with my mom and we looked at each other with tears in our eyes during gloria’s monologue. growing up watching america ferrera as a latina the way she spoke to us was truly heart hitting.
