I had never even considered cEDH, but now here I am, 8 hours and who-knows-how-many videos later, and all I want is to be in a pod with you guys getting metaphorically "jumped in" to the competitive commander lifestyle!
I made the switch after playing Prosper for 2 years. It was fun but the commander not having a direct gameplan was a bit boring after a while and Ob being able to hit hard in addition to providing so many more cards has just been so much more enjoyable.
Looking at the decklist, it's full of high cmc casual all star cards. The decks on the database, and mine all have much lower average cmc and more stax, especially Null Rod/Ouphe/Stony Silence and have been off Heliod+Ballista for a long time. No Veil of Summer but it does have Teferi's Protection basically sums up this deck.
Ob Nixilis is such a cool commander, as soon as he was spoiled I knew I had to build him. Love to see him at the cEDH table! Soft spot for Sythis too, my OG cEDH commander.
Hey Cam, if you've been picking up Nymris, I'd love to see some gameplay of her on the channel! That deck's all the new buzz, but I still haven't seen any videos of that deck on youtube.
I love how we've had so many months of Kinnan/Tyler's absolute dominance, having to sit through hours of "Kinnan is the best deck in cEDH" discussions, watching him wreck shop totally unopposed and now watching him get *totally dumpstered.* Great stuff, give me more. I've never really tried any cEDH decks outside of my normal Kalimax or Ishai/Jeska Control decks, but Ob Nix has me *very* interested.
I'm confused by some of the choices in the Sythis list and would love to chat about them, like the 3 mana enchantresses over other combo pieces like Seedcradle witch or Cloudstone combos
Play obnix at a few local tourneys. Final pod every time - the deck is nuts! It’s like a rhystic study and a kill condition and a combo piece in the command zone lol I tried a slower build but he pluses so quickly there is like no reason NOT to make the deck turbo. I tried building it like a faster midrange but then eventually I succumbed to making it turbo naus bc even if I don’t naus just being able to turbo OB out is a real advantage engine on its own.
I feel like it would be quite a bit worse than Ob Nixilis because it only lets you play the cards that turn, as opposed to Ob Nixilis who lets you play them until the end of your next turn. Virtue of Courage thusly doesn't synergize with things like Mana Barbs or Kederekt Parasite, some of the best cards in Ob.
What happens if someone counters the All Will be One ? Although ive been liking my Ob Nixilis deck for classic EDH, it seems hard for it to compete with the high level CEDH , maybe the lists will improve over time
I'm curious of how I can possibly do a match against you guys I built a high power non cedh deck but it's a brew I threw together that I'd like to try and see how it does against some of the best I took it to a timetwister Qualifier and had everyone watching the matches like what the heck is going on right now.would love to try it out against you guys and maybe get some input on possible changes
Cam opened well for Ob. I still stand that Ob is capped at high power to low tier cedh (fringe). It’s not real but if the table lets it do it’s thing then of course it does it’s thing. Oh & Tyler timewalking himself feels bad.
Yea… Ob is good cedh magic. I think this version is a little slow but the commander is actually nuts. Idk if it’ll ever be Tivit could but it has potential to take over the game in a way similar. The colors being inferior to esper is prob the difference but.. rakdos is really good nowadays so.
@@alainlamour5868 the slow version is the more consistent version, but it’s too slow and inefficient to be even A tier. When you add in all the other 2-3 card combos your hand/deck is filled with bricks and if one of those pieces goes to exile and you don’t get a chance to cast it given the game state it feels like arbitrary wasted space (glass cannony)… but when you play against hyper tuned A & S tier decks either version of Ob is too slow and too inefficient. Even if you opened cracked, the card quality is so meh compared to 3-5 color piles.
@@juggernautstark1 I’ve tried the slow version. It’s too slow. The fast version has been performing extremely consistently. Just casting an early ob Nix on turn 1 or 2 functions similarly to a rhystic study already. I’ve taken the deck to a few local tournaments already. I’ve top foured every time and my local area is very reflective of the overall meta. I expect to see it shown in the Meta more. I think it’s better than Rog/ Tevesh lol my buddy won a few with Rog/Tevesh and to me they seem comparable.
Unrelated to the video but I'm traveling to Philadelphia for a conference and in my spare time I want to visit any LGS in the area. Anybody got good recommendations?
If Cam sends Dockside Extortionist to attack a lone player (Tyler), that would trigger his commander, yes? Maybe better than hitting Dylan for the extra one damage.
Because casting it now is free. If he holds it there is a chance an opponent plays a stax piece or a rhystic study effect that would then force him to give something to play it.
Generally I think the idea is to get it out before a potential Stax player plays something like a deafening silence or RoL or blind obedience. In this game it helped him have the Mox Amber out already on Turn 3 tapping for 2 with Kinnan
Very good game, i still feel that Orcish Bowmasters should be banned and you would think it would be wrecking casual tables enough for the commander committee to notice. Wow that blind obedience slowed down all opponents.
He doesn’t need enough cards. Put a counter on to deal a damage to put a counter on etc. the exiling cards is just also what will happen. Doesn’t matter if he runs out.
@@PlaytoWinMTG cheers, I have just gotten caught out with the brallin discard to damage before. Thanks for explaining the mechanics without making me feel feel too much of an idiot 😁
i can empathise seeing ur mana dorks and kinnan being removed by orcish, im a bit scared to cast mana dorks when i play kinnan when opponent has orcish in play HAHA have to remove
Did Cam have 90 cards in library to exile at the time of the loop? EDIT: I seen at least 13 or so cards on his board and in grave at the time of presenting his infinite which would mean he's a few cards short of exiling for damage triggers n actually wrapping up the final player, but mistakes happen as stated towards the end. 😅 Not to mention card in hand, his library was definitely short on the 90 life needed to be dealt.
He doesn't have to actually exile any cards to do the damage. All Will Be One triggers when a counter is placed on a permanent, which happens as part of the Ob Nixilis trigger even if your library is empty so the loop can continue for as long as it needs to in order to kill everyone.
You don't need enough cards. Putting a counter on obNix and exilinh the top cards are simultaneous but separate effects. Together, it "just" wins. (I say just with quotes because thats a 9mana sorcery speed combo that still needs a starter.... But it does work, as we saw.)
Short answer: No, you don't, because the interaction between Ob and AWBO still happens, even if there are no cards in deck. I guess it's mostly because the counter happens before you exile, so the ping from AWBO definitely happens thus causing another counter to be put on Ob. Plus the counter and the exiling are not bound to each other. The wording does not say smth like "if you do, ..." The exiling is basically another action, for lack of a better term.
Obnixilis looks really fun, but I don't know if you are able to build a casual version of the deck, I mean, cursed totem and grafdiggers cage aren't very casual friendly :) Joe running Choke in his deck is really nasty for blue players.
I'm sorry, but that Sythis list is so bad 😶 would y'all follow CEDH TV's example and invite someone to play an actually competitive Sythis list on stream?
Pretty poor play to mana drain tymna. Basically, guy just lost everyone the game by doing that lmao. If you hold it up instead of playing cards from your hand just cut it man. Run something easier/cheaper to cast that way what just happened doesn’t happen.
Guys. Come on. You fucking called attention to Burning Earth, it's on the screen for less than a second before you guys talk about it and then you guys cut back and it disappears which means I have to pause the video and get on Scryfall.
I think that was less "Tyler made a mistake" and more "Tyler has given up on this game in the face of overwhelming disadvantageous boardstate"
"Live" on camera, we get to see Tyler make a mistake!!! Truly a historic day

P.s. I just bought Ob Nixilus for my Prosper deck, and I didn't realize how strong he really is. May be switching commanders now.
