I think what we need to understand is: this show is not the original Starlight Express. Do NOT expect it to be. It's better to think of this show as a brand new show using familiar songs and characters. While I will always prefer the Bochum version (pre-revision), it's nice to see a whole new generation so into this show. I hope new fans give the original London, Broadway, and Bochum versions of this show a chance and see the Starlight Express I fell in love with years ago. It's truly magical.
Spot on. It would be financially ruinous to mount the original staging these days. Enjoy this for what it is - seen with fresh eyes, it is magical in its own way.
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! I saw the original B'way cast in NYC back in the 80s and even auditioned for it just before it left... Brought back a HUGE smile with the memories! THANK YOU!
As a lifelong Starlight fan and having seen various productions in UK from London in the 80s as well as multiple Bochum visits, I was blown away by this. It was a lovely, grown up and engaging telling of the story.
A lot of people don’t like the new costumes but I personally love them! Dinah looks like a diner instead of a waitress and I much prefer that to be honest!
I watched it the 6th November!! It was absolutely brilliant!! It’s my new favourite musical and I got loads of smiles and a few waves throughout the whole show!!

Based on some pictures ive seen on Instagram it certainly looks as though the cast have been in a studio at some point. Im just crossing my fingers it was for a cast recording and not something else show related
So excited to be seeing this on the 4th Sept. It is never going to come back to Australia so I can’t wait to experience this when I’m in England again.
Going August 2nd and I just can't wait, "I am Me" 3:18 is already my favourite song although I've not even heard the whole song yet! Great memories of original production and I love this bright fresh update ❤ Gary
Just watched it today. Between this video and early august it feels like a different show. I saw something way better. They really changed the costumes and lightning for the better. It's not even comparable
I just watched this today, as i loved the version from the 90s as a kid i was afraid it was ruined but i enjoyed it its very similar some things I didn't like costumes not as good don't look like trains as much as they used to or race helmets and not using national train names, greaseball not as good as previously but still enjoyable.
I cannot wait!! Seeing it next week! I miss Wide Smile being in the megamix but I get Slick isnt as big as a character as CB was. The new costumes are so awesome ❤
Overall yes. I will always have very fond memories of the original as well as the Bochum production (which thankfully we can still always revisit) but this was a fun reimagining. Great for kids too.
We sat in the back row. Get to see everything in that back section. In the front sections you are closer to the main centre stage, but miss things that go on behind you. My friend & I both thought that seats 2 or 3 rows from the front of the back section probably would have been best.
I was really looking forward to seeing Starlight again (I saw it 12 times at the apollo Victoria. This venue looks far too small for the production, a large theatre like the Apollo is needed. And were is the bridge????? I was prepared to see this multiple times but after seeing these clips its not worth my train fare to London to watch a cheap version of a masterpiece
The set is smaller and there is no hydraulic bridge 😢. But the audience were closer to the actors and more involved so it was more intimate. To get to most seats you have to cross the track. They allowed me to stand in the set to take photos which was very kind. It's very very different from the Apollo but still magical in a different way.
Maybe I'm just being a bit real-ale about it, but this doesn't look like Starlight to me. The book definitely needed work, but I'm really not a fan of how this looks.
I agree about the costumes. I don’t know who the characters are either. However I’m guessing if you watch the whole show you would as they still get introduced?
My favorite character. When I went to see and I noticed this in other mega mixes posted. He doesn't sing solo anymore when he comes out. They all sing the hydrogen theme.
@@TheDivineLordOfChaos I agree, I can't remember whether it was just the megamix or not I'm sure he sang it solo during. Maybe because he's doing his tricks at the end. A very talented skater

They do have helmets. They are really cool, but not shaped like trains as in previous productions. An observation: the performers in this production seem to have less make up too which really allows you to see their surprisingly solid acting. It’s beautifully done.
